@nuclearblast91 Wow. To be honest, totalbiscuit is my role model and the reason, why I create videos here, so thats kinda the biggest compliment you can say to me at the moment. Thanks!
High quality video, once again! You raised some very good points about the absurdity of the numbers-based review system. I'll tell my friends about this channel, for sure.
@xZeryu Hey, I will most definetly do an episode about it, but next on my agenda are Let me talk about (LMTA) Star Wars: The old republic und LMTA Violence in videogames.
Also- I really like the site Rock Paper Shotgun since it doesn't have numbers in it's "reviews"; they're more of what the certain editor thinks about the game, while raising points about it's pros and cons. It's too bad most sites don't go that way.
A great video once again, but I think showing some random gameplay from a game that is currently the topic, or perhaps just a game that you're currently enjoying would keep the general feel of your show closer related to gaming.
I don't know if I'm making sense here, but even though your topic is video game related I think this type of a presentation doesn't allow the gamer viewer to feel as, excuse my marketing lingo, "immersed" in the video.
What you stated about demos is so true, If I am not sure whether a game will be good or not I'll pirate it first and then, if I like it then I'll buy it and if not I'll just uninstall it and move on.
@TehSithis The problem with this is that games that live on their name alone will lose a ton of sales if the demo shows how bad they really are. It's generally a lot easier to find flaws in a game if you haven't paid anything for it yet.
@Flowz0r91 Well then that's the devs fault for making a bad game, maybe it will force them to actually make something good for once. You can't blame the consumer if the game you have produced is bad.
@TehSithis But that's my point, making demos would force developers to make good games, which takes time and effort, which takes money, which is bad for the developer.
Why make good games if you can make bad games that sell just as well and don't cost half as much in production?
I prefer just watching you play a game as you talk, especially as you have said it is less effort. In topics like this I don't think it has to be a related game maybe just a game you've discovered lately and are enjoying.
Publishers fear demos because as mrdumbfuck said they have the potential to kill hype. They wont stop preorders, but when a game doesnt measure up to hype, its post release sales will take a dive more quickly when there is a demo.
Why are so many gamers so bad at voting with their wallet? I hear so much about how "oh this game is going to be terrible it has origin/horrible engine/gameplay gimmick" and then when the game comes out they buy it anyway and then complain anyway.
@HellMuTii To be fair, the L4D2 boycott was shot down by Valve by inviting everyone participating into their offices to check it out for themselves. The MW2 thing, well, it's MW2, you can't hold people who buy the same game over and over again can't be held up to a very high standard anyway.
Never watch reviews done by big companies, I only watch ones done by smaller people on YouTube and such, I also watch more than one.
I personally found this video fucking pointless, but that's only because I stopped listening to reviews as soon as PC Gamer changed Editor a few years ago and their scores started getting ridiculous.
Of course, the video isn't pointless, because many people still use Reviews done by IGN, Gamespot, all those clueless Console kiddies.
@TheSeventiethSeven And following that logic, the video gets even more pointless: Those console kiddies you talk about will never watch my video. But still, I wanted to tell the world about reviews, and I did. Now I don't have to blame me that I didn't make a video about this topic too.But still: The majority still uses ign and gamespot, thats the reason those sites are as big as they are.
@ThePuppetplayer I'd say you should do what ever you want, even if it isn't going to hit the crowd you want it to.
This is just a thought, maybe an opinion, but I could be wrong, but I feel the reason people use IGN and Gamespot is because they're scared that their favorite games are going to get a low review, and IGN and Gamespot (there are others, not quite as big, too) will never give a popular, casual game a low score, in fact, an insanely ambitious score.
@ThePuppetplayer I'm not just ripping into Consoles when I say this, but games like Halo 2, 3, ODST, Reach, they are all the same, casual crap every single time, it's a decent game, but the scores that these games get are ridiculous, and it's only because they are popular, I'm not sure if that's why IGN and Gamespot feel the need to rate mediocre games insanely high or not, I've seen IGN give a game a 8 and people raging and disliking the video because it wasn't a 10.
@TheSeventiethSeven I totally agree with you. IGNs most favorite rating is "8.5". What are they thinking? "Game looks ok, nothing special, but its a triple A release....8.5". I hate it so much. If I ever become like them, unsubscribe and erase my very existence.
The idea with demo's, while good, won't work because of your first set of points; letting everyone play demos would kill the hype machine, and therefore sales.
@MrFumbDuck In my opinion, a hype has reached its highest point when a game is finally released, so allowing demos directly after release should benefit the sales.
Great video, I like the style you're going for here (but do still make videos in the old style!).
I think the best way to make user reviews fair is to make a site where reviews can be submitted, but you must sign in with your XBL Gamertag, PSN Name or Steam username and have the game you'd like to review completed on XBL/PSN/Steam. By making sure you've played the game through before reviewing, you stop the people who downvote a game just for it's popularity.
@MajorasWorld64 You could even go a step further and make reviewing only possible after so much time has passed since finishing it (two days to a week). I find when I finish a game I tend to think it's the greatest game I ever played, and only after a couple days do I get a clear opinion on it and realize what flaws it has. If I were to review a game straight after playing it, I'd perhaps give a 10/10, but after I've had time to think I might change that to a 8/10 or so.
you are like a german and more interesting totalbiscuit!

Another great video!
I think the reason most demos are so rare these days is simply because companies are afraid that they may hurt sales.
A player may try only the tutorial and become bored of it or be satisfied enough with just the demo alone.

Hey Puppetplayer, ever thought about talking about DLC in one of your videos?
It's such a controversial topic and I personally can't see the good sides about it, but I would very much love to hear your opinion on it.
