On paper the only elite teams are Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan. International level we have Netherlands, Germany, France, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Italy and England all easily as stacked and considering the immense pressure and nationalism involved, it creates a difficult atmosphere for players.

Lyon has none, Liverpool has Gerrard and Torres (Carragher is not) and AC Milan has all old fodder save Pato....far from elite. Yes they do tend to do below their best considering the immense pressure the international level brings but players may also play better with their countries. Look at Germany in this world cup for example
