  • how could he see with that flashing flag in front of him

  • The greatest shot I have ever seen. 272 yards, 26 mph crosswind, everything on the line. Two up with two to go to win it all. He could have easily laid up to make par, and still had the best chance to win. Paddy chose not to play for second place. Ask yourself one thing: If somehow you end up in this spot, and everything you have worked for your entire life lies in the balance, do you have the guts to pull out the five wood and start the ball out over the middle of the grandstand?

  • thats how you play golf

  • Who the hell disliked this???...Probably TIger

  • Even my dad, who thinks golf is extremely boring was cheering at this shot. Amazing.

  • Look at that wind too.. wow..

  • did he get the eagle putt does anyone know

  • pro shot

  • an amazing shot, wow

  • Wow - I Enjoy this every time...

  • i agree man , he is the best i mean mentally he is one of the best. he can beat tiger , phil anyone

  • it must be the best shot ever considering he had to aim into the grandstand

  • 1 of the best golfers

  • The best make their own luck

  • The best make their own luck

  • Just a fantastic shot. Really is underated. Don't understand why he changed his swing when he could hit shots like that!!

  • I had the amazing pleasure of caddying for Paddy, twice! A grand sponsors day in Mount Juliet on different occasions. Must have been 9 years ago but still remember it like it was last month. He's made a fair few million since then.

  • One of the best shots I have ever seen. 272 yds, very strong crosswind, narrow target not to mention it being the 71st hole while leading. Tournament winning shot. This shot is massively underrated in my opinion - it doesn't get the repeat coverage it deserves like Tigers chip at Augusta does (great shot too by the way). Superb stuff Paddy.

  • @anthat7777

Right on. This is one of the best shots in recent history, easily.

  • @anthat7777 i agree except for the comparison to tiger's chip because tigers chip not only was a huge pressure shot but just a superb look and execution along with the raw buildup as it drew to the hole

  • just class, he wanted to get under par for the day, so he said afterwards in any case...just balls of steel and talent dug out of the ground...

  • Shot of a lifetime, man, talk about going for it...

  • I remember that... i was up to the left of the green in a thorn bush from Padraig's pov :D Great shot!

  • not the greatest shot ever olearysgrave tiger has hit some huge pressure shots that may top this one.... but it certainly is top 3 for me

  • i think (not this shot) overall if tiger had of played this would of been a different story

  • 272 yards. 5 wood. What a shot!

  • you heard him say just a smooth one as well!!

  • Holy Smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Greatest shot ever? Greatest moment in Irish sporting history? I suppose Sea The Stars would have something to say about that. Padraig's not really Irish though. Doesn't drink. I suppose Mr. Alliss though he was 'lucky' in the USPGA a few weeks later too.

  • Unbelievable shot...could watch this over and over. Padraig is a hard working and humble guy. I had the pleasure of following him around at the PGA this year on Saturday and during a practice round....unforgettable experience!

  • There is no such thing as luck.

  • This guy has a fantastic attitude, and the moron that said it's luck?....this guy is always positive..i hope he continues to win countless majors, he deserves them.

  • @recycler12 Peter Allis is no moron. He mentioned that he had a "bit of luck" as the ball "caught the side of the bunker". Harrington is a wonderful player, but his confidence is gone of late. Allis is one of golf's greatest commentators.

  • One of the greatest shots ever! i was there in the crowd and the conditions were so difficult on that last day

  • GREAT

  • That shot won the Open. I had a fantastic view, stood on a wheelie bin at the side of the stand facing the green! Awesome, definately one of the best sporting moments ive witnessed. Get goosebumps watching that

  • That shot won the Open. I had a fantastic view, stood on top of a wheelie bin at the side of the stand facing the green. Awesome! Gives me goosebumps watching that, definately one of the best live sporting moments Ive had the pleasure to have witnessed.

  • i was by the 18th green when this happened, heard a huge roar!

  • One of the greatest shots ever in the final round of a major.

270 something yards, fierce wind from the left, OB to the right(if I remember correctly), just amazing.

  • I remember jumping out of my chair when he pulled off this shot- incredible. People talk about him winning without Tiger in the field- I say hell with that, I'd put that final round of his up against anyone's that day. In the wind, tough course, for a major- Paddy was awesome. Hope he makes it 3 in a row at Augusta this week, he's really come into his own.

  • Great post. I love Paddy,. Somehow- underrated!

He is a guy who I think will just continue to get better. He aspires to be, knows himself, keeps learning, and is plain smart.

  • I could watch this clip all day

  • great shot

lots of wind, tournament on the line

    beauty

  • "luck of the Irish" ... the man didn't need any luck. Absolutely brilliant. A fantastic shot under extreme pressure but played with ultimate confidence. That shot alone deserved to win the Championship.

  • Thats right Peter, "Pure Luck", 72 holes of luck infact, thats just this Open, he also had 76 holes of luck at Carnoustie, not to mention the 72 holes of luck he had in the 08 PGA Championship. My what a lucky chap he is. You dont hear it here but I love Wayne Grady's comments after he sinks the putt, "Poulter can pack he's bags now!"

  • class

  • a shot of a lifetime. fantastic. 2 up, 2nd last hole on sunday of a major, brilliant.
