@jeansandjumper I wouldn't do that either...all that is really important is that you like it...there might be a bunch of different grades or even types of Mahogany...I would be very surprised is all I'm saying!
@mateomxx Not sure...but I can guarantee that it was the cheapest wood that (the CEO's at ) Epiphone/Gibson could find (which is not to say that it won't sound good...at least to some people).
i have the epiphone special 1996 model made in japan i have had since then and the thing still kicks ass stays in tune great. and if my research is correct it is a solid mahogany body with bolt on mohagany neck and rosewood fretboard and 2 epiphone alnico humbuckers. i payed for it back then 370 australian dollars. overall its 1 of my favourites wouldnt sell it.
Just bought mine cant wait to see what it sounds like !! I got mine off ebay for $80 from Carters guitars. And Im a nubbie ! I used to take lessons about 25 yrs ago and figured Id try it again. My expectations are not that high on how good ill get just wanna be able to mess around and have fun maybe learn a song or 2 :)
@HDMann292 Sink another $50 or so into a new set of strings and a professional set-up...the difference will be amazing...like between driving a car where the timing is off and in bad need of a tune up and one where everything is just right...the difference between you actually wanting to play it and enjoying yourself and it being painful and not sounding (or feeling) right. Good luck!
@greengtrs Thanx for reply :) Im going to enjoy tryn it again and learning it.I just dont have no expectations of being the next Jimmy Hendricks ..Lol. Question what do you mean professional set up? Ill be using a Peavey Vypyr 30 watt Combo Amp $100.is that a good amp?
@HDMann292 Have a shop go over the guitar and set everything "right"...neck angle, the amount of relief (or bow) in the neck, the string height and length (proper intonation)...polishing the frets and conditioning the fingerboard, tightening everything down...all the various screws and bolts that can be like on the machine heads (tuners). I've never used that Peavey amp but they used to make some good amps so it's probably decent especially for $100...and it's Jimi Hendrix...thanks for watching!
@METALLICAFAN824 Keep it until you can afford something better and then keep it as a back-up guitar for when you break a string (live) or for an abuse guitar you don't have to worry about kicking around...
@Punkerstyle9 It's a part of one of mine...one of these days I plan on posting some of my old stuff...still thinking about it though and I would need to find some old pictures to go with the stuff that's only on audio tape...some goes back to the mid 80's and I guess I have some even older than that...
@valdivia562 Definitely not the world's best Epi...it's just a cheapy...but I did get it set up to play well...and you mis-read it...the video title doesn't say it's the world's best Epi, just the world's best Epi LP Special Demo...lol! Thanks for watching!
@TBaGzZProductionz Gibson owns a lot of companies...between them and Fender they are buying up the other companies like at the end of a game of Monopoly so that nobody else can play (or survive) the game.
if yu want a cheap les paul or sumthing GO for an ESP ltd EC-50 cheap guitar better made than a gibson , pretty good pickups for a cheap thing, thinner neck for easier playing and still LOOK AWSOMEE , im not a massive fan of esp's, but they really are pretty good . THE ESP LTD EC-50 Costs (WELL CAN COST) around £160 thats like £30 pound more than thiss .
@TBaGzZProductionz I recommend Ibanez for good "cheap" guitars...the ART100's are great for the money...for the ESP/LTD's, I recommend the set neck guitars as most of the bolt on ones I've played have needed a lot of work...the set-neck one though are usually great...type in greengtrs and esp ltd and I've got a few very cool demo's where I did some jamming over a loop...thanks for your comments and for watching!
FIRSTLY my freind has this guitar and it isnt worth the £120 he paidd . which isnt alot.
Second I know for a fact that gibson dont make these guitars .
and now its personal opinion time . ive played about 20different gibsons and all sucked exept one . an EXPLORER which actually had a decent neck on it . yes gibsons have good pickups , but not for everything .Expensive epiphones that ive owned be4 are better quality built than gibsons, like the zakk wylde sig . MOST GIBSONS SUCK.so do cheap epis
@TBaGzZProductionz Gibson and Epiphone are essentially the same company...Gibson's are made in the US and Epi's are made mostly in Japan, Korea, and China...and neither has the best quality control...most need a set-up and some even a set-up won't help...I've had to re-do nuts and all manner of repairs to get them to play okay...some just aren't worth the time as they will never be right without spending a fortune...a few however, are amazing and those are the reason for the great reputation...
@GarryJacksonRecords gibson owns epiphone. gibson and epiphone guitars are on the same site. in my opinion gibson and epiphone aren't much diffrerent.
if you have a choose between a gibson or epiphone and you have to pay go for the epiphone most the time theres about a 500 $ or more differnce and a lil change in sound
@TheXDman999 The LP100 is a better guitar...it's a set neck guitar vs a bolt on and as far as Gibson's (or at least Gibson style guitars) go, that's almost always better. As far as using it for gigs...you will probably need to replace the pickups on either model. I can't sell you the one I've got as you are in Croatia and shipping would make it too expensive, but check out the Ibanez ART100's if you can find them...they are a better guitar for less money...check out the video I did for one here
@nintendoor1 oh yeah...it's been a while... they have an arched top instead of being flat like a Jr or a Special...other than that, not much of a difference.
@TheXDman999 The les paul has the same humbuckers as the special 2 so i advise you to buy the epiphone special 2 and then by a fender frontman 25 R you are going to cry with the sound :D
@NjRuffRyder If you can get it used and cheap and will get it set up then it's okay...these are not great guitars...you are probably much better off with a similar priced Ibanez...who generally has much better quality control on their lower priced instruments (there are plenty of other great brands too). I currently have a near mint Ibanez ART100 that blows this away for $239.99 including shipping for the Continemtal US...it isn't even close...it's an all Mahogany carved top body w/a set neck.
@NjRuffRyder As a first guitar you can't beat an Epiphone Les Paul Special 2. I would get a Les Paul 100 though. The 100 is a neck-thru which is better than the bolt on Special 2
@kegs666 I don't remember a Special 1 (single pickup Gibson's were called Juniors and the same basic models with 2 pickups were called Special"s). Something to think about here...my grandfather got a medal for serving in "The World War" (WW1) as that's what it was called until there was a 2nd World War...so maybe Epi did a Special and this was a newer modified version...
thats not the best epi. thats just a special. my first guitar was a epi special, it was ok. i upgrade to a real les paul standard. now its much better
@viccivic98 they can be good but they can suck pretty bad too...try the one you are going to buy...don't just buy one in a box...and they usually need a full set up to make them play good.
FINALLY!!! Somebody else who appreciates the Epi Les Paul Special II! I have one that I'm currently fixing up *new pups, pots, switch, tuners, etc* getting it ready for more serious gigging. Some people will say that I should just save and get a better guitar but I love the way my special II plays! Keep on rockin' bro!
i have that guitar sound is good price is even better i also have a gibson les paul studio and that guitar your plaiyng its the best guitar for the cheapest money
It depends on your level of playing and what other gear you own. If you are playing this through a small "practice" type amp, then don't bother. If you are going to use this with a "good" amp in a more professional manner, then you should change out a bunch of stuff including the pickup...and as far as what pickups, that will require a little research on your part...how much (can) do you want to spend, what type of sound do you want, etc.
Gotcha. Right now anything is better than what i have almost. I needz me a decent amp. Been playing with a Behringer GMX 212 for quite a while now. It's painful.
Most of that sound is the amp...it is a cheap beginners guitar...they are ok...just don't pay too much for one...don't buy it new...there are better new guitars for the same money, but if you can get one used for $100 or less, then you got a good deal as long as everything works and the neck is fine.
the thing i kinda despise about the LP special is the flat body design... it looks kind of like a cheap childish toy, whereas its an epiphone...lol other than that, look and sounds greattt
u like the rock-blues, u create an awesome sound that shows that u are a person with great musical taste, u like spanish-like music, u enjoy some hard stuff just to take a small break from the melodic music ;) and obviously u like thin lizzy :P maybe gary moore too \m/ ...did i guess right?
Thank you! Yes...and more...Phil (RIP) and his band were great! They are one of the few bands from those days (I have been listening to them since the 70's) that I still listen to. And Gary Moore is just amazing...every album he makes...every genre of music...
Why did you watch this video if you think that? And in the world of cheap guitars, they are certainly not the worst out there...and with a little bit of love and/or tinkering, they can be made to play and sound pretty good. Honestly now, didn't this come out sounding pretty good?
Generally yes...but you could say that about a lot of companies...and places of manufacture. Play it before you make your decision or buy it from someone who is willing to take a return if you don't like it...I've seen very expensive ($1000 and up...sometimes $4000 and up) guitars that have no business ever being sold (let alone some of the $500 and under category)...a bad neck can come from anywhere if it is made from wood. Newer Korean is better than older/oldest Korean...good luck/be blessed!
i heard the pups aren't as great on the older models than the newer ones because they were a bit more muddy but honestly who needs to worry about pups when you got gfs ... but the korean ones are better built than the new indonesian ones probably a no brainer since korea been making epi for yearsss
i have the les paul special i and it plays pretty damn good, i think its different from the special ii, my friend has a special ii and it sucks. i got mine used. i saw it at the store it was cheap, i plugged it in and was surprised how good it sounded. i think with entry level guitars its not the model that determines how good it is, its the specific guitar. mine is the best special i've ever played. mine also says gibson at the top, i don't know if thats a special i thing or not.
You hit the nail on the head when you said it the specific guitar...sometimes you wind up with a good combination of woods and set-up and a cheap guitar can wind up being pretty good. The set-up can make a huge difference with any guitar...there are a lot of adjustments from neck angle to bridge height and string length...to pickup heights and even/especially how well the nut is cut/filed...even how you put the strings on matters. Thanks for watching!
By the way, originaly Epiphone was created by a Greek imigrant in the 1910's, and bought in the fifties i think. Only then did Epiphone made Les Pauls and Sgs and Flying Vs etc.. The pickups on a Epi LP custom are almost the same as an Gibson LP Studio.. Anyway! Nice review :)
"Special" probably referred to "cheaper version" back in the 50's when they named it as it was a stripped down/more student like version of a Les Paul....mind you though, not the cheapest/most stripped down...that would be the Jr's...and then the Melody Makers (all of which I actually like more than the fancier Standards and Customs)...
REALLY? Wow, to me you cannot beat a Les Paul Custom. But, that's just a matter of opinion. I want a Classic Custom so bad I can't stand it. To bad it was a limited run on those.
Yeah...I lean towards the mostly Mahogany guitars and Rosewood fingerboards...they're the ones I miss the most...Jr's, Specials, Melody Makers, a Les Paul/SG Jr., various SG's, a 1985 pre-Standard (all Mahogany) PRS...but I really, really liked the Supreme...for what it's worth, I think the old Customs are great...without the Maple Tops...but all guitars are different and I have to admit I've liked a bunch of Standards and Customs over the years...depends on my mood I guess...
It's the "Demo" that is the "World's Greatest", not the guitar...and the LP-100 is no better...they are both just beginner guitars ...this one is set-up and it plays great...which makes more of a difference than a carved top which doesn't make it any better...just arched...look how much a real Gibson Les Paul Special or Junior sells for...flat tops, not carved...same with SG's, Explorer's, Flying V's, Melody Maker's, etc...
And you have "potty-mouth"...grow up...get a sense of humor...
Yeah....no. On 2nd thought....actually...FUCK no. Your playing is shit. The guitar is shit. And your "demo" also = shit. "Replace every single damn thing about this piece of crap, and it's actually pretty nice".... I learned my lesson with this on the LP-100. On the upside, that "Gibson" truss rod cover goes for about $25 on eBay. Maybe you could use that towards a better setup.
Look at my page you idiot...this is just a guitar that I bought, cleaned up, set-up, and sold...that's what I do...and I have fun doing it...including making catchy video titles. These demo's serve as a pretty good product review as you actually get to see and hear it in action and I make sure it plays good or I don't sell them at all. And if you think you can keep up with me, go ahead and post your own video response of you playing...if not, keep your opinions and pissy attitude off my videos.
You = "WAAAAAH!! ~ WAAAAH!!! B-b-but I'm God's gift to the internet...!" I have zero interest in "your page". As well, your sorry little clip only has 800 views, so just how fucking awesome do you really think it is?? I don't post shit on Youtube (other than comments) for my own wanking purposes, I actually PLAY my guitar(s).
Dude, you're the picture next to the word LOSER in the dictionary...and this is one of (currently) 80 videos I've done in the last year and several have over 20,000 hits...a few with over 30,000. Like I said, if you think you can keep up with me, put your guitar where your mouth is and actually play, record, and post it here. I don't care if you watch my demo's...they serve their purpose...this guitar is long gone and anyone interested in them doing research can hear it here before buying one.
Oh absolutely it "isn' that great". Trust me...you don't have to tell ME that! I've rebuilt or replaced just about every single part or component on mine. This is what gives me the right to shit on the poster's "World's Greatest-blah-blah-blah" title. I know from experience. That being said, an LP-100 will still eat a "Special II" alive, and mine definitely will, as it now has DiMarzio humbuckers etc. I only keep and "pimp-out" mine for sentimental reasons. It was my 1st "real" electric.
You may be able to answer my ? finally . Besides the extra tone and volume knobs what's the diff. between the Special ll and the LP-100 - and of course the extra $150. Thanks
"It's...made from 100% pure solid gold..." Go to the website already, stupid. Jeez. The main price point (aside from the aforementioned added electonics) seems to be that it's got a carved top, instead of the flat shit that these "Special" II's have. Mine also came with an actual serial # on the neck plate, instead of just the "Epiphone"-logo, but I got it new back in '97.
Oh, and I'm also pretty sure the "Not-so-Special" II's have a basswood body, while the LP-100's are Mahogany w/ a maple top. I don't know if it's just the sunburst finishes that have the maple top or all LP-100's. Mine is Ebony, so I couldn't say for sure.
Get a Peavey Vypyr. I don't know how much 60 pounds -or whatever- is in American currency, but if price is an issue, then the 15'watter should do you just fine.
Hi...email me a question through the Yamaha listing on eBay and I'll get a quote for you on what it would cost to ship it to you...in U.S.D. and if you want it you have to check the conversion rate at your bank (or online...) as it changes daily...
Thanks! It's all me improvising except at the very end I nab a bit from an old Simon & Garfunkel song (4:54) and then hit on a Thin Lizzy tune (5:12).
hey im just going by their website and what others have said... epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Special-II-GT.aspx

I currently have a near mint Ibanez ART100 that blows this away for $239.99 including shipping for the Continemtal US...it isn't even close...it's an all Mahogany carved top body w/a set neck.
greengtrs 1 year ago
@NjRuffRyder As a first guitar you can't beat an Epiphone Les Paul Special 2. I would get a Les Paul 100 though. The 100 is a neck-thru which is better than the bolt on Special 2

@NjRuffRyder i think that its great thats my opnion i have mine for 2 years and the guitar has never give me problems :D
RichardGuitarTV 1 year ago
so is there a special 1?? or just special 2?
kegs666 1 year ago
@kegs666 I don't remember a Special 1 (single pickup Gibson's were called Juniors and the same basic models with 2 pickups were called Special"s). Something to think about here...my grandfather got a medal for serving in "The World War" (WW1) as that's what it was called until there was a 2nd World War...so maybe Epi did a Special and this was a newer modified version...

Keep on rockin' bro!

greengtrs 1 year ago
So you recommend changing the pickups to what and howcome?
samuelmichaud 2 years ago
It depends on your level of playing and what other gear you own. If you are playing this through a small "practice" type amp, then don't bother. If you are going to use this with a "good" amp in a more professional manner, then you should change out a bunch of stuff including the pickup...and as far as what pickups, that will require a little research on your part...how much (can) do you want to spend, what type of sound do you want, etc.
greengtrs 2 years ago
Gotcha. Right now anything is better than what i have almost. I needz me a decent amp. Been playing with a Behringer GMX 212 for quite a while now. It's painful.

I just got one two day's ago! my cousin gave me his old one! It sounds great and looks good!!!!
yodaman54 2 years ago
sounds great, how do you like the guitar?
SufferingBastard666 2 years ago
Most of that sound is the amp...it is a cheap beginners guitar...they are ok...just don't pay too much for one...don't buy it new...there are better new guitars for the same money, but if you can get one used for $100 or less, then you got a good deal as long as everything works and the neck is fine.
greengtrs 2 years ago
I wanted to buy this guitar but you say there are better guitars, could you tell me other options I'm new at this. Thanks and sorry for my english.

u like the rock-blues, u create an awesome sound that shows that u are a person with great musical taste, u like spanish-like music, u enjoy some hard stuff just to take a small break from the melodic music ;) and obviously u like thin lizzy :P maybe gary moore too \m/ ...did i guess right?
playmay35 2 years ago
Thank you! Yes...and more...Phil (RIP) and his band were great! They are one of the few bands from those days (I have been listening to them since the 70's) that I still listen to. And Gary Moore is just amazing...every album he makes...every genre of music...

mmm not true, any of their stuff under 400 is shit, but over is decent
TheSmokingGuitar 2 years ago
Why did you watch this video if you think that? And in the world of cheap guitars, they are certainly not the worst out there...and with a little bit of love and/or tinkering, they can be made to play and sound pretty good. Honestly now, didn't this come out sounding pretty good?
greengtrs 2 years ago
do you think korean guitars have high quality??
777wildcardpaintball 2 years ago
Generally yes...but you could say that about a lot of companies...and places of manufacture. Play it before you make your decision or buy it from someone who is willing to take a return if you don't like it...I've seen very expensive ($1000 and up...sometimes $4000 and up) guitars that have no business ever being sold (let alone some of the $500 and under category)...a bad neck can come from anywhere if it is made from wood. Newer Korean is better than older/oldest Korean...good luck/be blessed!
greengtrs 2 years ago
i heard the pups aren't as great on the older models than the newer ones because they were a bit more muddy but honestly who needs to worry about pups when you got gfs ... but the korean ones are better built than the new indonesian ones probably a no brainer since korea been making epi for yearsss
trousien 2 years ago
i have the les paul special i and it plays pretty damn good, i think its different from the special ii, my friend has a special ii and it sucks. i got mine used. i saw it at the store it was cheap, i plugged it in and was surprised how good it sounded. i think with entry level guitars its not the model that determines how good it is, its the specific guitar. mine is the best special i've ever played. mine also says gibson at the top, i don't know if thats a special i thing or not.
baltocielo 2 years ago
You hit the nail on the head when you said it the specific guitar...sometimes you wind up with a good combination of woods and set-up and a cheap guitar can wind up being pretty good. The set-up can make a huge difference with any guitar...there are a lot of adjustments from neck angle to bridge height and string length...to pickup heights and even/especially how well the nut is cut/filed...even how you put the strings on matters. Thanks for watching!

yeah its a special 2, you can tell because the special 1 has a white nut and this one has a black nut... well, that's if it's all stock.
thegoodtruth 2 years ago
By the way, originaly Epiphone was created by a Greek imigrant in the 1910's, and bought in the fifties i think. Only then did Epiphone made Les Pauls and Sgs and Flying Vs etc.. The pickups on a Epi LP custom are almost the same as an Gibson LP Studio.. Anyway! Nice review :)

sk89123 2 years ago
Don't know why they call it a special, nothing that special about it to me. But great demo none the less.
illusionfreak 2 years ago
"Special" probably referred to "cheaper version" back in the 50's when they named it as it was a stripped down/more student like version of a Les Paul....mind you though, not the cheapest/most stripped down...that would be the Jr's...and then the Melody Makers (all of which I actually like more than the fancier Standards and Customs)...
Thanks for watching!
greengtrs 2 years ago
REALLY? Wow, to me you cannot beat a Les Paul Custom. But, that's just a matter of opinion. I want a Classic Custom so bad I can't stand it. To bad it was a limited run on those.
illusionfreak 2 years ago
Yeah...I lean towards the mostly Mahogany guitars and Rosewood fingerboards...they're the ones I miss the most...Jr's, Specials, Melody Makers, a Les Paul/SG Jr., various SG's, a 1985 pre-Standard (all Mahogany) PRS...but I really, really liked the Supreme...for what it's worth, I think the old Customs are great...without the Maple Tops...but all guitars are different and I have to admit I've liked a bunch of Standards and Customs over the years...depends on my mood I guess...
greengtrs 2 years ago
Wonder why the pickup selector is by the knobs, instead of in the typical Les Paul Area.
Burnboy85 2 years ago
Cheaper to make that way...they don't have to route an extra cavity and fish the wires up to it...

ray201314 2 years ago
Nothing "Special" about these turds, quite frankly. I've got an LP-100, but at least it had the carved top etc, instead of that flat shit.
revolutionday1 3 years ago
It's the "Demo" that is the "World's Greatest", not the guitar...and the LP-100 is no better...they are both just beginner guitars ...this one is set-up and it plays great...which makes more of a difference than a carved top which doesn't make it any better...just arched...look how much a real Gibson Les Paul Special or Junior sells for...flat tops, not carved...same with SG's, Explorer's, Flying V's, Melody Maker's, etc...
And you have "potty-mouth"...grow up...get a sense of humor...
greengtrs 3 years ago
Maybe you could use that towards a better setup.
revolutionday1 2 years ago
Look at my page you idiot...this is just a guitar that I bought, cleaned up, set-up, and sold...that's what I do...and I have fun doing it...including making catchy video titles. These demo's serve as a pretty good product review as you actually get to see and hear it in action and I make sure it plays good or I don't sell them at all. And if you think you can keep up with me, go ahead and post your own video response of you playing...if not, keep your opinions and pissy attitude off my videos.
greengtrs 2 years ago
You = "WAAAAAH!! ~ WAAAAH!!! B-b-but I'm God's gift to the internet...!" I have zero interest in "your page". As well, your sorry little clip only has 800 views, so just how fucking awesome do you really think it is?? I don't post shit on Youtube (other than comments) for my own wanking purposes, I actually PLAY my guitar(s).
revolutionday1 2 years ago
Dude, you're the picture next to the word LOSER in the dictionary...and this is one of (currently) 80 videos I've done in the last year and several have over 20,000 hits...a few with over 30,000. Like I said, if you think you can keep up with me, put your guitar where your mouth is and actually play, record, and post it here. I don't care if you watch my demo's...they serve their purpose...this guitar is long gone and anyone interested in them doing research can hear it here before buying one.

musique1345 2 years ago
wtf r u on the lp-100 isnt that gr8 either
musique1345 2 years ago
Oh absolutely it "isn' that great". Trust me...you don't have to tell ME that! I've rebuilt or replaced just about every single part or component on mine. This is what gives me the right to shit on the poster's "World's Greatest-blah-blah-blah" title. I know from experience. That being said, an LP-100 will still eat a "Special II" alive, and mine definitely will, as it now has DiMarzio humbuckers etc. I only keep and "pimp-out" mine for sentimental reasons. It was my 1st "real" electric.
revolutionday1 2 years ago
isn't*
revolutionday1 2 years ago
You may be able to answer my ? finally . Besides the extra tone and volume knobs what's the diff. between the Special ll and the LP-100 - and of course the extra $150. Thanks
DrHogfan 2 years ago
"It's...made from 100% pure solid gold..." Go to the website already, stupid. Jeez. The main price point (aside from the aforementioned added electonics) seems to be that it's got a carved top, instead of the flat shit that these "Special" II's have. Mine also came with an actual serial # on the neck plate, instead of just the "Epiphone"-logo, but I got it new back in '97.
revolutionday1 2 years ago
Oh, and I'm also pretty sure the "Not-so-Special" II's have a basswood body, while the LP-100's are Mahogany w/ a maple top. I don't know if it's just the sunburst finishes that have the maple top or all LP-100's. Mine is Ebony, so I couldn't say for sure.

Now see, I could accept this answer right here. It wasn't that hard was it ? Thank you very much.

Hi...email me a question through the Yamaha listing on eBay and I'll get a quote for you on what it would cost to ship it to you...in U.S.D. and if you want it you have to check the conversion rate at your bank (or online...) as it changes daily...

You know, the irony of this is that I was JUST looking at a solid natural-finish Les Paul yesterday, and then I come home to see this video today. XD
Nice guitar, great playing... Is all of your playing for this videos an improv that you came up with, or no...?
