  • Since the camera has a leaf shutter, I can sync to the maximum of 1/500 sec. What I am not sure of is how to determine a reasonable shutter speed to keep the background properly exposed if I want to use fill-flash. Would it be just a matter of figuring the proper exposure for the scene without flash and setting the flash to half power (i.e. -1 stop) for the subject? I would appreciate your feedback.

    I use a 6x9 mechanical rangefinder which does not have a meter. I would like to learn to shoot fill-flash using manual calculations and shooting at maximum aperture (3.5 in my case). ...
