Good bad ugly is one of greatest achievement in cinema too, but in my opinion Andrey Rublev, Ivan The Terrible, Strike, Battleship Potemkin are greater than Good Bad Ugly. But very, very good choice by Tarantino anyhow...
My favourite film is Ivan the Terrible part 1 and 2, actually 2 films if you look like that and 1 film in 2 parts if you look different, film by Sergei Eisenstein. Because it is really greatest achievement in cinema ever.
There two kinds of filmmaker, my friend. The one who make classic films, and the one who make non-sense films. Quentin Tarantino is the one make classic films.
i read somewhere that he said his favorite movie was 'black christmas'. i think black christmas (the original) is in my top 20 faves of all time. i think he does change his favorite movies like we all do from time to time
tgtbatu is a profound one, hate to try to sum up too definitively what its 'about', but it seems to really honestly paint a view of the human predicament, that life is nasty brutish and short and we have to be realistic about that, but we also have to be realistic about the fact that we have to try to trust eachother in order to help ourselves and eachother survive. The character angel eyes seems the most civilised but he's more brutish than the ugly Tuco, more like an animal bcoz he can't trust
@biggiedickson and you do? Settle down Tarantino fanboy. I know everyone thinks he's a "genius" because he makes movies with clever dialogue, but explain how TGTBATU is THE single greatest achievement in cinema. Next time explain yourself instead of being a pussy and saying I don't know what i'm talking about.
its really an amazing film and worthy of the best till now but since tarantino is making a western film I'm pretty shire he will at least scratch that level
@spinnenente Despite Tarantino being a legend, he wont be able to do that. Nobody will most likely ever be able to do that. I'm pretty sure if you asked him he would agree.
@spinnenente sorry man. i love quentin but no way will he get close to TGTBATU. At the very least he won't get close to the same kind of western. Look at how much dialogue he has in his movies. As wonderful as his dialogue is, his characters are pretty much chatter-boxes. And well - "If you have to shoot, shoot! Don't talk!"
I thought "Rio Bravo" was his favorite movie. Apparently he shows it to his dates at his place and if they hate it he feels their relation probably doesn't have much of a future.
I would even agree. If there are movie experiences that seem untouchable and having an incredible atmosphere and being amazingly entertaining at the same time, this one would come to mind pretty quickly. Although it's not one of my favourites (not sure I have definitive favourites).
I found this novel called The Suicide Game that feels like a Tarantino movie and even has a character that seems to be Tarantino himself. It features a black hitman, a murderous priest, and a gay phone sex operator. I downloaded it for free at smashwords . com and it was awesome.

How is this movie the greatest achievement in the history of cinema? Out of EVERY SINGLE film ever made, I doubt this stands above everything else.

While Tuco is my favorite character in a Leone film, my favorite film by Leone is actually
Upon A Time In The West, and I would argue that that is his true unrivaled masterpiece
(at least in the western genre). Harmonica's arrival at the train station is one of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema.
