I installed the expansion pack and started having some fun with my bass and electrics but have a question regarding recording my acoustic guitars.. I currently have RL Baggs I-Beam systems installed and use their external para EQ for playing live. I do not have the money for a decent condenser mid, so what would you run the signal path through on the 11r to record, the mid pre w/ an XLR, or the normal guitar input of the 11R w/ a 1/4" and why?
I came to check out the expansion pack sounds (I bought the 11r a few months ago but havent had time to learn it or PT9) and not only was very pleased with the sound of the expansion pack, but really liked your composition.. VERY tasty stuff there, and it sounded beautiful!
@F1Fanatic Thank you SO much! :-) Yeah the expansion pack is a MUST for 11R owners no question! It's basically got everything it SHOULD have had from the start, but I'm not gonna complain and LOVE having it now at least! :-)
@bsothefirst Yeah no question an amazing guitar - best I've had for sure and just gets better with age. I need to fix the b-string action as it's fretting out just a teeny bit... It tracks great but just so HUGE! LOL - I have a Mini GS Taylor that I bum around with thats a little more instantly accessible and less likely to freak me out if I were to ding it... LMAO :-)
Great playing. I am looking at getting the Eleven Rack and was wondering if the expansion pack only serves it purpose as software at the computer, or does it intergrate into the unit for standalone live applications as well?
@gibtube88 Thanks so much! Yeah I have more to it actually but I agree I've always thought of it more as an intro to a song, but I did at one point record a longer version but not quite as good sounding as it did here tonally. You can listen to it on my soundclick page. Just google soundclick and the same username as here and you'll find it if you are interested in checking it out. There's a ton of other 11R sample stuff on there too from presets I've done for the elevenrackpresets site. Thx!
@dingle1 Thanks brother! Coming from you that's a HUGE compliment! :) It's called "Rise Again" which I wrote after the floods here in Nashville. There's actually more to it which you can hear on my soundclick page (same username) so basically soundclick dawt comm slash vaisatchatrucci... LOL since you can't post actual URLs here I have to spell it out phonetically... LOL :) That recording on there is just a low-fi demo of it and I am going to re-record it now that I have the 11R Expansion pack!
@vaisatchatrucci Thanks for the reply man, and thanks for the compliment. You're an awesome player yourself man, you should record more of your stuff if you have the facilities and the time. And at some point I would love to work on something together if you're up for it. My album is finished now. I got another project on the go with a guy from the US, but I'm also looking to work on other collaborations. Wouldn't it be awesome to do a compilation project featuring YouTube artists?
@dingle1 Well I certainly appreciate that - truly. :) Glad to hear your album is finished and again just hit me up when you have it for release as I'd love to purchase it! I'd LOVE and would be honored to collaborate with you whenever your schedule permits. I think a collaboration comprised of other YouTube artists is a great idea! I love your humble spirit and how you help promote others - that's so commendable and I love your attitude in general man. You're a stand up guy brother. :)
@brandon9271 Thanks bud - its a Sterling Audio ST55 which is a relatively inexpensive large diaphragm mic - I think it was $299 at Guitar Center a few years ago? I've been really happy with it. It's the only mic I have besides a Sennheiser e906 which is outstanding for mic'ing guitar cabs - MUCH better than a Shure 57 in my opinion.
I did a little research on the subject. I have a Canon Vixia HF S20. It creates a special compressed codec called AVCHD. The video clips are .mts files, which apparently cannot be read by OSX. I think that different cameras create different files, so this situation isn't universal. But I'm not 100% certain about my conclusions, which is why I ran it by you to see what you thought. It's possible that I may just need to spend 40 bucks on that conversion software I mentioned.
@georgeorlando705 Surely it came with software to burn it to dvd or something? or perhaps a digital out where you can import the video in real-time into Final Cut? otherwise yeah converting the native files may be the easiest way to cope... That sucks...
Just one more question regarding videos. I found out this week that I need to buy software that converts my videos into MAC supported files in order to import them into Final Cut. Did you experience the same thing? Or does that depend on your camera and the kind of files it creates?
@georgeorlando705 What type of video files are they? Final Cut pretty much supports the most common types like MOV, DV, MPEG-4, H.264, 3GP videos. you can also just connect your camera to the Mac and import/capture the video straight from the camera right into Final Cut too which may be an option for you.
Thanks for the quick response. I still can't believe how good the acoustic sounds through the Eleven Rack. Appreciate you taking the time to make these vids and showing all of the settings and stuff.
Dude, very nice performance! I'm definitely considering the expansion pack; and possibly a Sterling Mic for my Takamine. Regarding the video...can you give me a rundown of how you get that direct sound? I have a great cam and Final Cut Express, so I have good editing capabilities, but I still don't know how to make a live video with direct sound....I'm still just capturing the room. Can you help? Thanks!
@georgeorlando705 Thanks bro! Yeah absolutely - I basically just record video direct to my iMac while also recording the guitar / mic in ProTools then you just import both into Final Cut, drag the video to the timeline which creates video and audio layers. Next drag the direct recorded (PT) bounced track (I use wav) and then it just a matter of lining up the ProTools audio with the video's audio so its in sync with the motion and then delete the video's audio track or mute it. Super easy! :)
Wanted to say to that I REALLY love your song!! Love the vibe it gives. I've heard some of your other playing and you are a very talented player! Big props!!!
@brianfisher100 Thanks brother than means a lot! I appreciate you taking the time to check it out and especially take the time to comment! :) you rawk!
WIN!! This sounds gawjus my friend. Are these your own tunes? How come we're not collaberating on something? Surely this is making the universe out of whack..............lol.
@kcmoviemkr Thanks buddy! Yeah just the mic connected to the Eleven Racks mic pre, then in pro-tools you can choose which input you want on each track so on one, its just the mic input (dry), and the other is the Eleven Rack stereo input which routes the dry mic input through the FX blocks on the Eleven Rack. I wish I had two small condensor mic's also so I could blend that in too - it would sound really cool I think.
@psychocreep73 I appreciate that man - yeah it's a killer piece of gear and for the money, it's definitely a steal for the productivity and from an on the spot inspirational playing & recording aspect too - I love it... not that you couldn't tell... LMAO :)
@Vercingetorix Thanks homie :) It's just part of one and not finished so I just went with the "intro" if you can call it that... a little long for an intro maybe... LOL
