Basically, Paul as a person is a paleo-conservative, his political views are heavily libertarian (but he differs on one or two things that the party considers pretty important), and he votes with the constitution. And that vote is all that matters. The other two are irrelevant.
But the difference between mainstream libertarians and Paul is that Paul won't SAY that. Paul isn't going to tell the states what they should or shouldn't do, whereas someone like Gary Johnson, who falls more within the actual party line, says the states shouldn't be allowed to ban it. Paul, as an individual, doesn't matter. It's the constitution that matters. Paul has a libertarian ideology, but he has clashes with the actual libertarian party quite a but, like with the Asian trade agreement.

B) That's an extremely over-simplified and technically incorrect description of libertarianism. Most "global corporations" got where they are from favors from governments, including the government of the United States. Do you think any company would make any money if their negative reputation with customers overrode their actual convenience or innovation?
In a free market, corporations can't get money or favors from senators and secretaries of departments like the EPA. That leaves it up to the consumer to decide whether or not to buy a product, and if no one buys said product, then the company goes under. It should have happened with GM. A bad reputation doesn't mean anything now because the government will hold up any "corporation". No one with a senator on speed dial is too small to fail these days. Just look at Solyndra.
And lastly, Ron Paul ISN'T A LIBERTARIAN. He is a CONSTITUTIONALIST. There IS a difference. Ron Paul turns to federalist ideas in favor of libertarian ones. For instance, on the subject of drugs, Ron Paul says it should be left up to the states, not the federal government. Libertarians don't think it should be left up to anyone. Ron Paul believes in border control, purist libertarians believe an open border satiates the labor market's demand for labor/cost.
I disagree. He is indeed a libertarian. He supports federalism because that's the way our federation was set up, that's the way the Constitution works. I don't think he (or I) believe that if drugs were decrminialized at the federal level, that the States should ban them on an individual basis. Can they? That depends on what the States' constitutions say about it. Should they? No. Ron Paul follows the rulebook to pursue libertarian policies.

That leaves it up to the consumer to decide whether or not to buy a product, and if no one buys said product, then the company goes under. It should have happened with GM. A bad reputation doesn't mean anything now because the government will hold up any "corporation". No one with a senator on speed dial is too small to fail these days. Just look at Solyndra.

And lastly, Ron Paul ISN'T A LIBERTARIAN. He is a CONSTITUTIONALIST. There IS a difference. Ron Paul turns to federalist ideas in favor of libertarian ones. For instance, on the subject of drugs, Ron Paul says it should be left up to the states, not the federal government. Libertarians don't think it should be left up to anyone. Ron Paul believes in border control, purist libertarians believe an open border satiates the labor market's demand for labor/cost.

I disagree. He is indeed a libertarian. He supports federalism because that's the way our federation was set up, that's the way the Constitution works. I don't think he (or I) believe that if drugs were decrminialized at the federal level, that the States should ban them on an individual basis. Can they? That depends on what the States' constitutions say about it. Should they? No. Ron Paul follows the rulebook to pursue libertarian policies.

@jer4d Any real libertarian will defend the Constitution, even when it's not libertarian itself, because he is responsible, believing in contracts and consistent principles. A real libertarian wants to amend the constitution where it's bad, not ignore it.
There were few people in history more libertarian than the best of the Founding Fathers.

Libertarians think that personal responsibility is so important that we shouldn't use government funds to prevent problems with agencies like the EPA. If something goes wrong, individuals should deal with the problem with lawsuits.

The thing is, it doesn't insult his policies. It in no way insults Paul as a candidate. There's no reason to be upset about it. It's literally just taking his mouth movements and plugging in completely nonsensical statements. It's not an SNL slit, it isn't a clipped and misconstrued soundbite.
