Just google rainbow delegation. There's this guy who sends free rainbow wristbands for free anywhere in the world and donation is optional. He wanted it to be a sign that you support the lgbt community and that it's like you're the safe place and the video he has on the site is 12 minutes but it explains why he's doing it. That's another way to raise awareness and just a conversation starter or whatnot.
You should do some research on the Anti-Defamation League, i work with them and they are similar to the Human Rights Campaign and they do a lot of work in the south with hate groups, such as going undercover at KKK meetings and installing No Place For Hate programs in schools which has been widely effective in preventing bullying in southern schools.
