I was reading that he probably had diabetes type 2 with no treatment could lead to personality problems..i think its kinda cool that they dramatize things like this because it might make people want to read more and study Henry viii.

I'm sure it was just a case of artistic license...or technical limitations. Wheel locks, which also used a piece of flint (although the arm didn't move) were notoriously unreliable and complex. They were actually made by clockmakers instead of gunsmiths back in the day, they were so complicated.
Thanks for your comment. Not sure what your source of information is but the dog's head of a wheel-lock certainly does move and, no, they don't use flint. They use softer pyrite. There was some overlap of skills in those times, of course, but few, if any clock makers were significant gunsmiths. I did do a search, however, and was able to find a reference to ONE gunsmith of the time who also apparently make clocks as well.
He was no angel, but you have to remember that Royalty was all about having a male heir to continue the blood line - a thing that he was paraniod about. The one good thing that he did for us British was to free us from the clutches of the Roman Church - albeit for his own dubious reasons !

He was also quite an accomplished musician.

Henry was a tyrant and be careful when your watching movies that depict history because Hollywood gives you their take or the creator's take (the writer) and they twist the truth. Books are still a good tool for reading about the truth. History has been distorted.

He was simply a very strong individual, highly intelligent and highly educated, the last of his line and determined to prevent the renewal of civil war that had plagued England for most of the fifteenth century. He new that the extinction of his line would result in catastophe for England, and 'undo' all his father's work. Of course this did eventually happen in the seventeenth century, with disastrous results for the monarchy.
@shiningarainbow The actor is as cool as a rockstar and did a mighty fine job portraying Henry in all his splendor and malice. Henry the 8th was pretty much a tyrant, then again executing people was mere sport back then...but that's not much of an excuse. the show is a great historical "documentary" and the creators really deserve respect for it.
@shiningarainbow Take it all into context. Betraying your king was a offense punishable by death. Anne got the short end of the stick (she was by no means innocent), Jane died after childbirth, Katherine cheated on him (a lot, also, not innocent in anyway) and Katherine Parr outlived him. He only sent two women to their deaths and only one had it coming. He was a King, and as such, had hard decisions and issues to conquer. Hitler and Henry VIII are not even comparable.

King Henry VIII was fat. What people thought was athletic back then was his skill with the bow and horse riding. He was not physically fit at all. The only reason women wanted him was so that they could be queen. This show is absolute trash and completely innacurate.

After doing The Tudors plus all the other movies he's done ie Elvis, Match Point, etc, JRM has come close to blowing it. He is a very talented actor but two things he MUST learn to control......his drinking and his mouth! If he can't do that his career may be over. It is just a matter of time. If he is a true alcoholic, he can't drink.....ever! It is that simple.

@shiningarainbow oh, give me a break. he wasn't "evil". he had a God Complex. he'd been worshiped from birth. that would fuck up anyone's perception of right and wrong. he certainly wasn't the first king in history to resort to violence. those were violent times. no one's going to rewrite history because you don't agree with the way it played out. i think it's brilliant that people are choosing to watch something like this (something historically relevant) rather than Real World or Jersey Shore!

He was simply a very strong individual, highly intelligent and highly educated, the last of his line and determined to prevent the renewal of civil war that had plagued England for most of the fifteenth century. He new that the extinction of his line would result in catastophe for England, and 'undo' all his father's work. Of course this did eventually happen in the seventeenth century, with disastrous results for the monarchy.

@shiningarainbow The actor is as cool as a rockstar and did a mighty fine job portraying Henry in all his splendor and malice. Henry the 8th was pretty much a tyrant, then again executing people was mere sport back then...but that's not much of an excuse. the show is a great historical "documentary" and the creators really deserve respect for it.

Anne got the short end of the stick (she was by no means innocent), Jane died after childbirth, Katherine cheated on him (a lot, also, not innocent in anyway) and Katherine Parr outlived him. He only sent two women to their deaths and only one had it coming. He was a King, and as such, had hard decisions and issues to conquer. Hitler and Henry VIII are not even comparable.

Henry WAS a rock star of his day - attractive, strong, powerful. Everyone loved him at the beginning.

While the truth wasn't so good, it was concealed, well hidden. This series is not the truth. King Henry VIII was a power hungry, war-lord wanna-be, in private, not even Elizabeth knew. True historical documents attest that while all was relatively fine, he made choices that supported war via appearing as "King of the Hill", rather than the Peace Queen Elizabeth I supported.
