  • awesome, i learned a lot thank you for taking the time.

  • This is really great! Thank you. I am going to use this method in other aspects of my life. I loved when you said to for give yourself for messing up. That was an AHA moment for me. My son is almost three with some speech delays and I think this will be great for him.

  • Wish you would continue making videos...

  • @maudify At 2 years old this is still DEVELOPING, not DELAYED. Your best bet is to promote (by getting his eye contact, modeling and encouraging imitation of you) his use of single syllable words that end in /p/, /b/, /t/ and /d/. Google 'speech therapy final /t/ words' and you'll get a start on finding resources!

  • My son has no issues with starting a word with P, B, M ... his problem is that he refuses to complete a word. For example, he says "muh" instead of milk. Any advice or techniques that I can do at home to help with this? Thank you so much! Please please please reply!

  • @maudify Hello! Can you give me some more information? How old is your son?

  • @comedycityonline He just turned 2 on November 26th.

  • You did a great job on tesching speech. Please make more videos. My friend Mom tried these on his son who has autism. He learned to make those sounds :D

  • Wow. I'm applying to a speech pathology program right now, but I'm a little nervous about working with kids, mainly that attention span will get in the way of speech practice/learning. Thanks for such an impressive demonstration of how a child can cooperate towards a speech goal.

  • i guess i can do this my own to my baby sis.

  • Cute video. :) I like how fun and positive you are with your daughter. You gave me some good ideas for my little one.

  • that was wonderful! Thank you so much!

  • Now i am going to overnight you my 4 year old girl :P

  • Nice job

  • I'm struggling with my two year old son. Thanks for this instructional video.

  • hahh cute! it kinda looks like your training a dog!

  • The little girl is so talented~!! She's so adorable~!!! awwww

    I think she'll be a great actress~!

  • Really helpful video. I am lost helping my son, though the state agency did teach me a little of this. He is 23 months and saying almost nothing, but understands everything. He doesn't qualify for services because he is "stimulable" and at-age or better on all other developmental tests. I feel like I'm going to miss out on the next year of adorable speech, questions, and getting to know him if he's not talking! Looking forward to more instruction on helping him.

  • This is why I love Youtube. You can find just about anything on here. :-) Thank you for the video. I am desperate to find as many tips as possible in helping my 3 1/2 year old to talk. He has a very lazy tongue, and I can't afford a therapist. I'll try your method and keep searching for more tips as well. Thanks again.

  • useful and fun to watch!! Thanks alot ^^

You have a cute little girl!! May Allah bless her ^^

  • @The4Zees- Where are you located? If you have concerns about your child you may be able to access services through county or state programs that supply services for 'free' (quotes b/c we all pay taxes!). Look into Birth To Three programs at your county level. Also, if you are still so concerned when he turns 3, then you can have him evaluated through the public school system.

More videos will come eventually; I have scripts written for several more. Filming, editing and time become factors.

  • I looooove this video! I've been crying all morning after fighting with my insurance company and this really helped jolt me out of it. It made me realize that we're not helpless. We have options. I can start helping my son today. (Our insurance co. wants a diagnosis like asperger to ok any therapies. He doesn't have any indicators besides delayed speech at 24 months.) We can do this! Do you have any more videos?!!

  • This believe it or not just might help my 33 year old daughter..When she speaks she does not correctly move her mouth.. Thank you. NO I wouldn't give her a jelly bean.. but, I like how you did this..

  • @granyk carrot sticks, hugs, tickles work just as well as jelly beans! Have fun!!!... and don't get too worried about a 3 year old's articulation- it's only 'clinical' if NO ONE can understand her at her age. Most three year olds DON'T correctly move their mouth for many, many sounds! If you and most of the humans in close proximity to her life can understand her, she's right on track with her speech! Thanks for the visit!

  • @comedycityonline

Hello, thank you for responding back. Your letter to me spoke about not worring the articulation of a 3 year old.My daughter that has the speach problem is 33 years She use to form her words correctly when she was a very young child.. I know I taught her.. But when she went to live with her father. Well he did not form his words correctly.. So she pick up his bad habits.. Now she lives with me. and I'm doing everything to help her correct the habbit. Can you advice

  • @comedycityonline i think she said 33!

  • Sydney is so cute and natural actor...... :)

  • I just wanted to thank you for this as I'd not done so prior to now.

My youngest son, by 18mo had made no sounds. We were told to wait, he's now 23 mo and old and thanks to you I didn't "wait"! lol He still says less than a dozen single words, most unclear but, we're getting there! : ) He will finally be admitted to Speech therapy this week but, wanted to thank you so much. He says the /f/, /b/, /d/ and makes a valiant attempt at /h/! lol

  • @JandDsmom2008 I am so glad that my video gave your family a little support. Glad to hear that he is receiving services soon - the therapist who works with him will have a lot more to offer you for 'homework'! I'd love to hear back someday how he's doing!

    My best-

    Peggy

  • just waw.....Excellent , you gives me a good idea how to work with my autistic child ...Merci beaucoup

    Petra

  • Respected, Not only we are getting knowledge, I am enjoying the bonding between you and your beautiful daughter. My all blessings to her and my great regards to you.

  • this is fantastic, really good advice - and that kid should be on the stage!

  • really liked your vid, awesome, i'm working with an autistic child and i'm having a lot of difficulty getting the '(l' in like) out of him, if you take requests, can you show a clip of teaching that skill?

  • Great advice! any parent of a late talker like me is hugging you across the internet right now

  • Really so funny :))))))))))))))))))

  • Really so funny :))))))))))))))))))

  • This was great. Thank you. Would love more!

  • I love it. Thanks a lot. I am on my last year at the university (Speech therapy). You guys make it so funny.

  • wow, great job! :o)

  • I believe this is a great speech therapy session ! you are really good at it ... Congratulations!

  • Hello All- I know it's been 'quiet' from my end, but believe me there is A LOT in the works. I have several (ten actually) more short films scripted and a shooting schedule with a goal of rolling out a couple of them by the time someone in Wisconsin will say 'Wow, it's really hot outside today.' I will be moving all my videos to EdImprov channel though, so subscribe there please!

Sydney and I look forward to educating and entertaining you again!

    Peggy and Sydney

  • She speaks surprisingly well for being 4,5! I was totally surprised, so clear :)

Heart warming video as a big bonus on top of that! :)

  • this was really helpfull IS THERE MORE PLEASE :)

  • Very helpful. thank you so much! you guys are so cute!

  • It"s a very interesting video. Your daughter is adorable.

  • Great demo lesson, thanks for posting!! Looks so fun, just like it should be!

  • That was awesome!! You and your daughter are very good instructors.. She is so cute!!!

  • what a sweetheart

  • Thank you so very much for making this video. I have tried so many things and my son does speak he is now 2.5 and I feel like I am running out of time. Thank you for making it simple. God Bless and continue you GREAT work.

  • Thank you, God bless

  • So glad I found your videos... my son just turned 2 early this month.. and he way behind with talking. he is going to be evaluated for speech therapy. I have tried so many things to help him talk on my own ... and I think your videos will help too . Thanks!!

  • hey greeniecharm, i'm an SLP student and i think that what you're doing is out of concern but not nessasary GOOD . [ if you see that yours son has a good hearing and good comprehension : he understands what you are saying and doing small tasks you ask him to do : like put this away plz !! .. and having good eye contact , then you have nothing to worry about he is at 2 yrs at normal limit dont force him to talk . but you can help him .. like speaking in slow rates repeating ur sentences:small car

  • thanks

  • Fantastically charismatic; both of you!

  • thanks, i,m a mother with autism's son and i don't know exactly what i have to do to help him. This video help me knowledge , and i will try it....... hope god it work....

  • The little one is so adorable.

  • Finally, another SLP who believes in having FUN in a session! One of the perks of being an SLP is that we can modify techniques to work for us and be more functional for out clients! It's makes the session go faster, is more fun, and we'll have less grey hairs at the end of the day! Lol. Awsome!

  • Every approach has it's pros and cons. I hope parents see a simple, easy, laid back, and none-to-serious, activity to try for 5-10 minutes. I hope a parent sees this video, and feels a tiny bit more empowered to foster a kids speech (and yes, there are 100s of ways to encourage talking!).

You raise a good point; I certainly wouldn't do this for more than a few minutes, and candy isn't a MUST... but it's tasty! Tickles and toys are great too! Keep it fun. Keep it light. Mix it up.

  • ...getting the requested toy because she attempted, approximated, and/or said the word correctly. It's functional and naturally reinforcing, plus it's fun! Saying "buh" for "bean" is not only boring, but incorrect as "buh" is not a sound in "bean." /b/ is, but it is coarticulated with /i/ to produce "bean." Does this approach work? Yes, but it is slow and boring. There are much more efficacious and evidenced-based methods of treatment for speech disorders.

  • As a professor and Speech pathologist, I have to point out some flaws with this approach. First off, in typical language development children do not learn to talk by being provided with candy. Merely intereacting with another person is socially reinforcing. Secondly, language should be functional! (e.g., communicating with a purpose, not rote repetition). How much better it would be to play with real toys and elicit word approximations by having a child request a "pig" or "cow" and then...

  • LOVED THIS! I am looking for speech exercises for my b-i-l who had a stroke recently. This is what I was looking for! Thanks!

  • The speech therapist is such a lovely lady.

  • This is SOOO helpful! I'm looking for resources to help my almost 2 1/2 year old talk, a side from ASL. I'll try this w/ him. I may subscribe to you just to get more ideas. You and your daughter are also entertaining. Thanks.

  • Very helpful!!

  • I watched the vid of you kiddo and gave you some 'homework'... Hope it gets us started on helping out your kiddo! If anyone else out there would like to send me vid of their kid talking- this is a GREAT example of the type of vid I need to assess / provide feedback!

  • Thanks Peggy, will get on it asap, thank you so much.

  • great video, very helpful. My son is almost 4 and is still having problems saying words. He has mild cerebral palsy and I got some good ideas here. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for this, I have saved it so I can check back. y daughter is 23 months old and I am worried she is falling behind with her speech development. It's given me some great tips and advice.

  • I'm constantly stressed out by looking at grad programs right now, but this reminds me why I chose to be an SLP :)

  • Wow... you make it seem so easy. I'm currently an undergraduate student of speech pathology and I'm scared to death to do my first therapy session! There's still a lot of time before that happens but I can't help but think things like.. "What if I don't accomplish anything?" or "What if I mess it all up?"

Helping individuals with their speech and language problem is great... I just hope I do okay.

    Good video. :)

  • Wow - My 16 month old was just diagnosed with possible autism, so was poking around. This was superb, good ideas here.

    Thanks.

  • Are you a speech therapist and can you help me by telling me WHY my almost 3 year old as no words? We have tried everything and have been on a waiting list (for over 9 months now!) to see a speech pathologist. I am at my wits end!

  • it could be sppech aparixa. Where do you live? i only had to wait a bout three weeks to get in to see a specialist for my 28 month old daughter because she was not realy talkin. she went to a specialsit down in albany ny.she had only been evaled and they said that we should get her checked out by a special child docter. and that is waht we did and she was diagonised whith aparixa.
