America is all about the bigger is better, bigger debt, bigger government, bigger military, bigger suvs, bigger pollution, bigger waistlines, bigger houses, and that is not what life is about. Live out of a backpack. You will love it. Watch Rick Steves. When you are living in a different country not surrounded by all this junk you really find yourself.
about a day... but in cities like berlin, rome, and paris we stayed 2 days... we wanted to go everywhere we possibly could. we were always on the go but it was really fun.
Hi, I'm a 22 year old student from Toronto, Canada and I'm thinking about doing a similar trip. Even though I'm in travel and tourism in college, I still have little travel experience and as of yet have never been on a plane before. Anyways, any tips, I'm mostly wondering about planning, did you plan extensively or just wing it and took whatever came your way?
I agree, the best way is to buy a EurailPass (you have to buy it before you go to Europe)- a youth (up to age 26) is the best bargain in the world! Join YouthHostels International or similar, and take the listing of the European hostels, with phone numbers. Make sure and talk to other people you meet- other backpackers will have to best advice. Be flexible and you'll have a miraculous time!
