my local newsagent sells normal tab and he once sold me a case of quatro 15 years out of date tasted fine to me kept two intact sold one on ebay for £9 and the other is in my cellar
I remember this being sold in the UK briefly during the early 90s. My mates and I loved the idea of a clear cola but it tasted like cheap shite. Kinda like Asda's own or something.
One minute Tab Clear was in the shops being billed as the next big thing and the next they were selling them off at about 10 pence....... remember buying dozens of the things while playing Super Nintendo games with my friends. Ah happy days! :)
This advert makes the mistake of being done halfway through as far as the product is concerned, leaving a good 30 seconds of dead space for the viewer to forget what's being advertised.

This was actually a banned drink, it was said they put small amounts of "TABS" or LSD in the drink, something about trying to make people addicted to it or something, so it would sell more.
Yeah, I understand, just stating what i'd read lol.
I'd heard almost everywhere though that it was banned because of LSD being put in it, which is why I posted that, That's all I ever heard and read when it basically vanished!
As far as I remember it tasted pretty much the same as Diet Coke, except that it was obviously clear. It definitely wasn't banned, but sales were low and there was little point of it when Diet Coke existed.
It wasn't banned, it just failed. TaB Clear didn't achieve enough popularity so it was pulled back from the market because it failed. You can still get TaB apparently (never seen or heard of it before IN MY LIFE) but not TaB clear because it simply failed. Didn't even last a year :P
Apparently "normal" TaB is still sold in the US, but not the UK. Think it was sold here at one point though, I remember seeing what was (even then) obviously a very old sticker in a UK chipshop in the late 90s (hadn't even known there was ever a non-clear TaB).
TaB Clear was meant to be a cola, but I remember it being somewhat "generic", reminding me vaguely of several soft drinks (including cola but also Irn Bru), but tasting strongly of none.
This ad is from september 1993, i was on the marketing panel that launched this new soft drink. we were not only trying to come up with a new and exciting product, but were also trying to rebrand the original TAB product as sales had declined, kind of what skoda has done in recent years only they have been succesful as we have not. we tested the market for a year but in the end was a futile venture, we had to except we sucked. i now hold swinging parties in my grandmas basement.lol
I DEMAND A BETTER QUALITY COPY OF THIS!!!!!!!!

We get TAB in Africa. It is not clear though.

@bonoboslr It's nice that they still sell it where you live. We still have it over here in the US too.

What was the point of having a clear drink? Doesn't make much sense probably one of the reasons why it failed.
zeonbub 11 months ago
The clear-beverage craze gave us all a reason to live. The information superhighway showed the average person what some nerd thinks about Star Trek

Hilarious commercial, but probably not very effective at selling its product.

The only thing that's really clear about Tab clear is that nobody liked it! I used to drink it and was sad so see it go.

Why have ppl clicked thumbs down for this? lol. I only stated what I had read on the net and in the papers, and watched on the news lol!!
Plus, if it wasn't banned, then why don't you see it anymore? considering it did sell quite well in the UK!
strifey07 2 years ago
@strifey07 LSD isn't chemically addictive. It's also extremely potent, even in tiny doses.
Putting LSD in your product wouldn't make it more addictive, it'd have blatantly obvious psychoactive effects.
So it's pretty safe to say that this is complete bullshit.
