I have seen the cars you're talking about, hatch-backs. They sound like ASS, they usually look awful and there are numerous better platforms (5.0 Mustangs, 4th Generation FBODYS, etc not to mention old school muscle cars)

I have never witnessed a non-hatchback running 10s or lower at the track. In fact most don't break 14 seconds. Your argument is Civics can be fast, anything can be fast with the wrench time and know how but preference drives what platform is chosen.
