C.S. Lewis? So don't worry about originality when writing because even if it has been written before as long as it is yours you are original?????? Sounds like a "cop out". Ha ha, cop out, I just made that saying up. You can't argue with Lewis.
So, unless you have some beef with the masterful theologian Lewis, who gave the world some of the most lovable works of fiction in the twentieth century, drop it with originality.
Okay the writers are right but every time they use an old joke of even start a line off with "it was a cold dark night" they should have to pay the families of the person that first wrote that. I have not seen a true original peice of work forever. Just regergitated stuff from better writers then them. Sure change the names and location and think you came up with it. The best part is you all chose to be writers, so suck it up.
As C.S. Lewis put it,"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it."
More than likely SAG will walk out over the same issues this May. Why couldn't the WGA work with the old contract until then? What was the rush? NABET worked with the old contract for nearly a year.
WGA just issued a relief fund for industry workers (non wga members) to help with our financial hardship due to this strike. Such as your house being lost , food , utilities , and loss of medical benefits, ect. Check it out if you need the help info on( BTLNEWS,COM )under strike blogs... or if your a non wga member and need info seek out below the line magazine for info on line
i realy dont get this. Isnt it about the writers being paid some of the money from the ads put on during the shows that they write, but some of the writers are getting laid off for striking. so doesnt that just stuff there point striking 4 money when them or other writers r getting fired which = NO MONEY
The writers get paid plenty. I think they should stop whining, and take a look at what they've got. Seriously, without the audience they wouldn't have jobs...and who is this strike being taken out on??? THE AUDIENCE.
Not the point. The point i that the media companies are making the VAST majrity of the capital that stems from what the writers have created.
On a side I must say that I am extremly proud of You Tub for allowing us to circumvent these goddamn conglomerates. Fuck News Corp, Fuck Time Warner, Fuck Disney, Fuk tem all.
Most writers live pay check to pay check, and most of the time, those pay checks aren't very much. Not to mention, there is no steady pay check. If a movie doesn't do well, the writer doesn't get paid until the next movie is made, and they have to live off that little amount of money until then. You are stereotyping writers in a completely unfair way. Just so you know.
I know, the big studio wigs can hire illegal aliens at half the price , actors too, I mean , wouldn't this just be another job that Americans won't do? No one in Hollywood cares about middle class Americans losing their jobs.
The writer's deserve their share of the money. They are not rich and I don't know why some people may think that. Without them, actors and actresses would be out of the job. They deserve to have their residuals. They've earned it, and they've waited long enough.
I support the WGA Strike 100%. Without the writers, there would be no entertainment, and the writers deserve to receive their fair share of the profits. Many people think that writers get paid loads of cash for coming up with a new script, and that is just not true. They write it, they don't act it out. They are only asking for a few cents more on their residuals and if you ask me, that is more than fair. Writers are not rich, and I don't know why some people think that.

Come on. I mean, Hollywood writers demanding more money? They get paid probably 5 times as much as any of you guys on youtube right now. They all deserve to be fired without severance. If they are going to be this stupid and lame, I don't even care about my shows. Fire them all!
Come on you. Who does all the work and who gets all the money? The actors get all the money instead of the actor getting the "Share" of this money the writers do when the writers do all the work all the "funny" stuff that you enjoy to see.
Nobody realizes what kind of hard work writing is. That these workers should be reamed by the studios is an embarrassment to our society. Thank goodness organized labor still exists, otherwise those with wealth and power would *always* hand it to the middle class laborer. Oy.
pokerguy would you go to where you work now and put in hard work for no pay? knowing that any work you produce will directly contibute to the already huge wealth of your bosses? knowing that your work will be taken from you and used whilst you recieve NOTHING?! are you kidding?

no!!! they have stopped so many shows like family guy, back to you, the colbert report, 2 and a half men, the office, 'til death, so many more WTF writers?
You mean WTF studios. The Studios and management folk make money hand over fist, but the people who actually MAKE the shows/movies/etc get barely a pittance. (Man, with posts like this I could become a writer... if only it paid. ;P )
This is idiotic. They get what they accepted (their job), so they need to stfu.
