Elephants are highly intelligent creatures, they mourn and bury their dead, they talk to each other (sometimes on a frequency not audible to man). If a human hurt this elephant's family, or another told him about the evils of man he probably grew to hate humans in general which is probably why he killed so many. The only reason we rule the earth is because we have high intelligence + an opposable thumb. Quit underestimating animal intelligence and maybe you'll live a day longer.

not really jaimac, elephants are extremely smart animals and really do remember everything. elephants actually mourn the death of their family members as long as we do and hold grudges if a human was the cause of the death of their family member and will go kill someone in retaliation... someone probably killed that elephant's family member and he was to kill a nepalese person or two

yes they did... indirectly but they did cause harm for that elephant and its family. those people built roads, markets, homes, farm lands, deforested the region, polluted and etc to HIS home.

here is a better scenario that will fit this... what if a roach laid 10,000 eggs in your house and they all took over the place. do you kill that one roach that laid the eggs or do you kill all of them? and why would you want them gone?

@clayfromsanantonio great example, I applaud but humans take animals territorys all the time. Sure that's wrong but I don't think killing 11 nobodys is going to help that elephant. I think humans shouldn't take so much space to themselves but people need more space for new people. It's not just his home it's also many other animals and those humans home. That elephant is just as bad as those human eating lions, it just want's to kill more and more.

@clayfromsanantonio it's hard to picture because we don't have house roaches in finland but...i'd kill all of them because they might do something to my food that might make me sick...and because it's my house and I can kill them..but if they all would leave after i killed the original i'd kill just the original...but yeah i get that it's pretty much the same with the elephant but humans (well most) don't want or try to hurt him and unlike roaches we try to do the best for everything if possible

@gargoilihemmo animals dont regualray come into your space .. they no it could mean risking there life , but if they feel threatened they will cross that line and one kill 4 out of 11 because all 11 of them were the same to the elephant.. never go againsnt mother nature.. this is a great example.. number 2.. someone out of that 11 people projected weakness internally and elpehphant picked up on that and then all humans paniked or whatever. but like i said ripple effect he saw them all as one.
