  • i really wish they didn't have the metronome in these videos

  • It's been said ten thousand times, but everyone talking shit on here is an idiot. If you can play it and be comfortable with it easily, then move on and shut the fuck up. If you're going to rag on it without trying it (which I can bet at least half of you are doing), you're only hurting yourself. The tutorial is easy to understand. Maybe it's too hard to play for you? And if it is, work with it. Make the songo your bitch.

  • this is a very cool tutorial ..

  • wowwww maan nice way to do a tutorial!!!!! (sarcasm)

  • para eso ahy q sentir primero

  • @bimwopbarn Are you kidding man? That's a real tight snare, ask someone who really knows what's up before you trash this dude's kit.

  • hes not bad but that snare sounds like ass

  • Songo was originally created by Changuito on tumbadoras, timbales and cowbells , not on the drumset .

Listen to LOS VAN VAN !!!

Listen to LOS VAN VAN !!!

  • He's rather wiggly while speaking. Neat how music is so infectious.

  • the inventor of songo, jose luis quintana aka changuito. look for "Songo Patterns on Drums - Changuito" youtube.com/watch?v=PzYXM8j7NTA

    :)

  • @andfoolsshineon estoy de acuerdo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PUMA FOOTWEAR!

this dude is amazing.. very good tutorial.

  • that's a really good drum set

  • Well U feel Real Dumb Because I Just Waz Lookin At All The Songo Beats An i Went On This Video An Ur Playin The Whole Thing Wrong!! haha

  • Yeeees! I got it!!! And it feels damn good.

  • what kinda of metronome is that? is it hooked up to an amp or anything or is it naturally that loud? i need to get a goood loud metronome

  • lol this ant even songo!

  • @ncjoshua12 i'm pretty sure it is mate. this is how i play it anyway. and tommie igoe, dave sanders. of course many variations

  • @xotankox No Its NOT Songo ,,,,An Ur Goonna Tell A True Latin His OWn BEat!,,,

  • @ncjoshua12 hang i hate being up front! but why do you need lessons if your a true latin! i'm a true kiwi but dont know all the hakas! lighten up true latin!

  • thats pretty hard. i cant play it as of now, but im not gunna try. doesnt sound that great to me

  • check out some other people playing it, this way isnt the only way. i like it a lot and am in the process of learning it because u can put so many different variations on it... u just have to be creative.

the end result is really funky too. idn if u like latin music though, all i know is this stuff is right up my alley

  • My sunlite drum set sounds better than this drum set...

  • it is go drum

  • i think you crap talkers should post your own video displaying all of your professional quality skills.

  • @lmk385 I think our criticism is valid because this guy is not a random guy showing off his songo skills as many others whose videos are titled "songo...(something)". This guy is a professional who is pretending to teaching us what songo is and even sell DVDs saying that he teaches is correctly.

  • no good

  • is that the the beat you played in the play along mike?

  • I think you should see" theprofessorwilliam vid

  • this guys cool...

  • hey you forgotten something, the musicality, y el sabor jaja

  • Hey you forgot something...this is a tutorial.

  • this is actually the beat just that he playing it slow

  • yeah bitch, now do a clave pattern with your left foot

  • Interesting Video... thanks... But I don't like the bit at the beginning where he talks about it being a beat actually for drum kit rather than something that was adapted from percussion.

Not only do I disagree but I think it is wrong.... all drum beats originate from percussion. So why try to make a distinction?

Secondly... I don't think its a great idea to just be comfortable with Linear grooves... Its too limited if you ask me.

Thanks again for the video.. I will try this beat!

  • Agreed. Most people, by watching this video, will learn to play it as "this hand then this hand, then the foot, then this hand, then this hand..." and not the feel of the beat. It is actually derived from percussion instruments and other OLDER beats, just listen to the bass drum.

  • your words about linear playing being limited, shows your lack of knowledge. try listening to garibaldi or gadd and tell me linear grooves are limited.

  • Thanks for the lesson will have a go it looks and sounds fun :)

  • so u still haven;t figured out who played the very first songo???? i am not at all surprised!!!! his name was blas egues martinez from havana, cuba and i studied with him in havana before he died!!! google it baby!!!!

  • good

  • easy

  • like ur ma

    si?

  • vale

  • a bit too fast

  • haahahaha paratodos for everyone .. u u know why he is not doing any crazy stuff cuz he teaching he would have done that noone will know what he played but he is showing how he plays and slow for those who want to learn so al of ya be quite cuz ya dont know wat ya talking about

  • absolutely horrible. do you even know who made the 1st songo???

  • u know who Los Van Van were?

  • latin beats are all about soul and rhythm man... Very bad beats man...

Sabor!!!! find it and then transfer it to the kit... use your rimshots, incorporate a cowbell on the offbeats...

  • Add it some extra flavor man, this has no soul. You look like a robot...

  • is because he is teaching it dude. shit.

  • the beat is easy once u see someone play its jus that easy

  • maybe you 're not a drummer , because you CAN NOT identify A drumkit, it's a yamaha maple absolute with the nouvoe system on the shell, idiot!..GRINGOS IMBECILES tocan hasta el culo el songo...se nota q no sirven par ala musica latina!..mejor toca mi perro

  • jevica61 maybe you are a music store sales person...cause you know all the drum kits. Good thing i don't go to school in your place, cause youre way worse than an idiot. estupido!

  • Yamaha Absolute..

  • I believe thats a grecth?

  • anyone know what kit that is? !!!

  • It's a Yamaha Absolute Maple Noveau, I think

  • Sounding like a rock or like any other music style really doesn't matter. What really matter is the idea of a totally free drum lesson, that show us the structure of a difficult rythm pattern like songo.

    Congratulations Mike and freedrumlessons!!

  • thats true people look dum leaving negative comments like that, they just dont get it.lol

  • i don't really like the lesson... sorry... the tumbao is a repeated figure on conga or bass, which creates the groove... SONGO is a rhythmic form developed in the 1970's by the great CUBAN percussionist Jose "Changuito" Quintana and bassist Juan Formell of the group Los Van Van. songo reflects the influence of Rock and Funk from the U.S. and that of other caribbean-based styles, on cuban music... i guess you get what you pay for...

  • its good!clear and pretty easy to practise.thanks a lot alfredo

  • Drums sound great, but it doesn't really fit latin styles. I still can't figure out how people tune their toms to sound like yours...

  • sounds more like a rock kit

  • it does have a little bit to do with the fact that he has drum mics recording the sounds, so you can equalize each tom to eliminate the tones you don't want, but that tuning where it starts high and drops is tuning your bottom head a natural fourth higher than the top head (first two notes in here comes the bride are a natural fourth apart)

  • I believe you mean a perfect fourth

  • either that or a natural third... i failed my music theory class haha

  • haha no problem dude

  • the drums sound like that because of the way they were miced and mixed u fucking retard

  • anyone got nug

  • clear and modest! thanks

  • great job!
