You know, your resentment comes through in this. It is clear that you feel "put out" by your "aspergers child". Many people who are not aspergers are realizing that this time of year is nothing more than an attempt to escape reality and pretend. On top of it, stress increases considerably with all of the expectations of how it is supposed to go off. Has it occured to you that maybe your "aspergers child" has some intuition of how unhealthy this is for everyone? No of course you haven't.
I am utterally offended, one thing is you said "acting like, a demon child' that is totally uncalled for. Also, you seem to be lumping all asperger children together. As if all of them act like that, or get so over whelmed by it. Maybe some do, maybe it is not just that, but being around to many people at once. You never know, do not assume. I love christmas, the anticipation is a prob for people with AS but does not mean you need to cut it out. Yeah you may want to wait for the presents though.
@Valosia Sorry if I offended you.... I was hoping everyone would understand I meant a child who is close to melt-down. And yes, I admit that in my video I do "lump" asperger children together.... I'm trying to reach out to parents who may feel confused and alone, to help them to understand why their ASD child is showing negative behaviour at this time of year. Hopefully understanding will lead to happier times for all.
I hated Christmas as a kid. Sure I liked getting gifts but that's all I liked about it. I would litteraly make myself sick worring about what I was going or not going to get. Meltdowns and tantrums were more frequent around December. The constant change and people coming in and out unannounced made it worse. My parents did the same things you mintioned. As an adult, my nickname around the Holidays are "Grinch" and Scrouge". My dad, who probably has AS as well gets called those too.
As always, your advice is simple, proven and easily explained and applied. Thanks for your youtube segment it's sure to ensure many families experiencing aspergers syndrome either in a child or family member a much smoother and more enjoyable ......(you know what!) . Thanks and well done. Jane
