  • Great playin

  • Greatt mann

  • I really like this one. The improvisation are very nicely played, yet they are really melodical - one of the main things I miss during these times, lots of impros are technically awesome, but I cant feel the "song" in it, more of a academic showcase. And this could be emotionless only if you think that emotions are about strange faces. Great!

  • Very nice!

  • loved what was supposed to be the solo break it woulda been sweet if the rythym section had dropped out in that part

  • coud you please advise me as to where you purchased the sheet music for this piece

  • Cool beans..

  • dear camera man, this isnt hollywood, stop moving the goddamn camera.

  • Cool .... Very cool man ... Great sound and always a pleasure to see the young cats play so well ...!

    Keep it up man ....

  • nice play

  • beginning: Mayreh very cool =] awsome vocabulary. i know you can get a better tone out of that horn man. keep shedding you sound good

  • UHH!! good swing

  • great sound! great ideas! ran out of gas a little bit at the end. whats your setup?

  • dude 1:18 to 1:20, sexy Bird lick from the end of his solo from Now's The Time. hella props

  • ummmm..marcschwartz90 you need to pay attention to the b19 on the 17th measure of your 6th chorus. I dont think you outline it correctly maybe you should go to someplace like eastman so they can help you out

  • @jabh1354 yep gotta watch those b19s they'll get you everytime (rolls eyes)

  • @jabh1354 D7b9 isn't technically a diatonic chord of F major, D min7 would be the diatonic chord. D7b9 is leads to the Gmin7 thus it is functioning as a 5 chord of G minor, preparing the listener for the sound of G min7

  • goddamn all you people should just kill yourselves. hes a great improviser. so go die

  • Amazing! I would love to jam with you one day. We did this tune at my community colleges combo. Love it!

  • Holy crap you can play man!

  • jabh1354,

You have a horrendous attitude, music is not a competition and it's not a contest of who's "better".

"All he does is play lines over changes that harmonically make sense." What is wrong with that? Your comment makes no sense, the kid obviously knows how to play the music and this is the style he chooses to approach. Maybe he transcribed everything or just learned the lines by ear, you don't know.

To MarcSchwartz90, you sound great keep it up.

  • @trembleweeds dude music is all about who is "better". nothing else. duh. im sure marcschwartz90 would agree

  • You're a joke, dig? I'm sure you do.

  • Comment removed

  • the real book volume 1. sheet music plus

  • @jabh1354 i doubt u cud play any of the stuff he is playing so stop hating

  • Are you saying that Parker and Coltrane DIDN'T play lines over changes that made sense harmonically?

As for studying harmony, you can't really make any generalizations because it depends on your own tastes as well as the style of the music. Also, if you don't study harmony, how do you know how the changes work?

  • @jabh1354 Your teacher is ignorant and so are you, dig?

  • hahaha the fact that you just said dig makes you a douche

  • @jabh1354 i agree - he's good but it sounds memorized not improvised. sure a lot of improv is cutting and pasting riffs but... anyway, this is like bebop - i think they did a lot of that in bebop. cool jazz is more by feel... i dunno it just seems like more real improvisation in cool jazz. this is some dope bebop tho (just an opinion and an interpretation of different styles and what I know of as the definition of jazz vs. improvisation)

  • wow.... thts all i have to say

  • wow very nice! i love it soo much! you are a great player my friend

  • 0:44 good stuff

  • well done!

  • great !!!!!!,,,,but the vid ( Adam plays jazz sax) plays it more more better

  • i disagree. Adam Carillo is a phenomenal player no doubt, but personally i prefer this video over his.

  • u got ur point

    lol

    at all thx =)

  • holy, nice sound!!!!

  • What is that lick at 0:50?

  • what equipment are you using? mouthpiece? ligature? sax? It sounds really good. amazing.

  • sheet music or no? if yes, can you message me back?

  • get the realbook. then you don't have to bother ppl asking for music.

  • Lift the tune.

  • i counted the chromatic plam key lick about 8 times before i lost count. does the word judicious mean anything to you? lol jk nice job.

  • NIce, obviously that you are a lick player :)

  • Comment removed

  • kapteinliberal wtf does that mean?!?

  • hello i like yr video and would like to play miss jones on my instrument, please may i have a copy or can u tell me where i can find the sheet music thank you

  • You have very good sound but you need to do work with yor phrasing and time.

  • its pretty amazing the tone u give to the sax loud and clear.. how do u do that.. some saxs just dont sound well at all..

  • nice tone, good chops!!! I like your improv ideas. Keep up the great work!!!!

  • Great tone, great technique, everything was flawless... but I have to agree, there wasn't too much feeling... it felt rigid.

Still it was enjoyable to hear, thanks.

  • Plenty of heat! Good work.

  • did you make it ?

    lol

  • Awesome! Could you tell me where I can find the sheet music for this song. Thanks!

  • good question! (; i mean for FREE on the internet. it has to be there anywhere.. otherwise i buy it. cool video!! nicely played!! greetings

    chris

  • It was OK.

  • Completley mechanical. Excellent technique and form for sure, but it's concrete and emotionless. From what I've seen both at the Berklee College of Music and The New School these days, is there are many students of this comparison which lack true passion for the music. Whereas, the ones who really feel it are in the few.

    But I guess it's subjective?

  • this is just my 'subjective' opinion, but i

    find your typing very mechanical.

  • WHy do you classify the Schools that way..... All school are the same. its what you do your own... He sounds good.... He making all the changes and it doesnt sound to cliche

  • @GodlyAce I feel what I play, but I'm nowhere near this good : P

  • @GodlyAce i would say its far from emotionless... so yes... your observation is subjective

  • you sound great man. keep playing.

whoever said anything negative about your performance, truly does not no a thing about jazz saxophone, or even jazz itself.

  • If you ignorant people truly think this kid sucks, please find something else to do with your spare time. It was not bad by ANY means, and as stated previously just as good as many porfesional level players. I am SURE that 99.9% could not do anything even close to what this phenominal young musician did!

  • It needs a little more feeling and make it less "formal".

  • It's pretty good but not so good there buddy. The way you play this piece is not well played. i will post up a video so that you know what i mean. In the future the video will contain this miss jones chart.

    Keep working at it though.

  • how bout you post a video of you playing sax and well see if you know what your talking about.

    peace.

  • Why, you don't have to be a sax player to state an opinion on someones playing...

  • yo trane you're my fuckin hero this kid sucks. he's been shucking and jiving the changes ever since nassau suffolk. go eat a dick schwartz

  • i didnt think he was that bad?...he's very young also and just as good as many adult jazz musicians

  • this kid was in nassau-suffolk? Probably the jazz band, not Bill's group.

  • Yup. I believe he was in "Bill's group" for 3 years, and was playing lead for two, not to mention that he played lead in the All-Eastern group. One day, you even came in to work with us (nassau suffolk group) and stood in front of him for a 3 hour rehearsal. You watched him blow, and didn't say anything to him about his improvisation. Instead you waited to get home and go on youtube to tear apart a recording of an 17 year old sax player. Nice

  • so what

  • If I was asked to come in and conduct a rehearsal that this kid was in, that means my assessment should hold that much more water. Go down and read what I wrote. It's all legitment.

  • This is the last I'll be posting on here. I don't know why you decided to start back up on this after 2 years and you're still completely missing the point.

It's not what you said, it's how you said it and the context you chose to say it in. You absolutely had the power to call the kid aside if you heard something that you thought could be improved upon. The fact that you came in to work with the band doesn't make you look better, it makes you look worse.

  • wow, im workin on this song and you did a rlly great job

  • Very nice

  • This is good sax playing! Definitely not easy chord changes.

  • I would say the chord changes are pretty standard

  • Nice one Adam - Wish I was as good as that at your age - keep working - Good future.

No money in it but self satisfaction of doing something you love . Bill Doran

  • this is really good, did you go to the grammy band this year?

  • it sucks knowing that no matter how nice you may play something, there are always morons like that trane guy that come around and tell you where you falter... it sucks that there are people like him that have no idea what it means to truly make music... yeah yeah theory's important... tell that to chet baker or jimi hendrix or mel lewis.

hey man this sounds great and yeah that b9 chord is correct nice job bro...

  • wow

  • I love you Marc.

  • wow trane1959, i can't believe you actually go around ragging on skilled players like this awesome guy. he played a D7b9 which is what the horn player is supposed to outline instead of the diminished that's played by bass and piano. you remind my of my extremely arrogant ex boyfriend (extra empashis on the ex)

  • EX-tremely.

  • ...okay, this is the first "Music theory burn" I have ever seen. Holy shit... way to musically undress trane1959

  • great job man! don't let stupid people get you down, you are doin awesome work

  • Swell!!

I got a pal called Mark Higgins, plays a sweet alto as well. I'll try and get him up here soon.

  • hey and nice pattern at 1:18 and 2:09. you sound great. did you make the band?? how old are you??

  • 17 and thanks for the comments

  • hey trane1959. GET THE FUCK OVER YOURSELF!!!! so what you might of made the band but what are fuck are you doin now??? Searchin youtube to shit people on people!! your probably just playing shitty resteraunt gigs and anniversarys. bagging on high school players to make your self feel like your somethin. SO UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY ARE TRANE SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!

  • how old is this marc schwarz?! in the account it says that he's 27? is this right? and how old is he on this video?! thank you (:

  • he's really really good although i agree that irritating high chromatic lick is way way out of place in this type of song. he plays it like 6 times and it really takes away from a really good solo.

  • defo on my favourites, lol. Nice.

  • Great job mans. Whats your set up?

  • are you serious? he didnt post this video so you could talk shit and feel better about yourself. If you are going to be a tool and critique other kids playing, then you clearly dont know the first thing about jazz. maybe you should spend more time in a practice room and away from real human beings. we would all appreciate that. Im sure that you have a tiny dick too.

  • cool...u can analyze someone's playing and rag on them... u must be really amazing because u play the trumept, which I've never heard before. I play trumpet at UNF...u should come check us out and tell us about the stupid things we do and where we feel uncomfortable playing...

  • wow...you are definitely a jackass. straight up. people like you should not be allowed on youtube, much less outside until they get their head out of their ass and recognize talent

  • haha nice

  • YOURE A DOUCHE BAG

  • Oh look who's Mr. big shot Grammy Band '02. Listen pal, I'm sorry you failed in your music career, but you don't have to take it out on future pros like Marc, who's up at Eastman right now tearin' it up. So why don't you get shedding on that horn of yours and change that username of yours. You don't deserve to bare that man's name.

  • relax, you.

  • Eastman isn't all that much to ride home about.

  • I'd like to know how you could be in the Grammy Band in 02 if you're 28 years old

  • well, I don't know if you made the Grammy Band or not, but if you didn't, it's because you just boogie in F for the first four bars of the each A section, completely ignoring the F#07 chord on the second bar of each A section. DRRRRRR!!!

  • Hmmm... First off I didn't use the F#07 chord i subbed a D7b9 and if I'm not crazy, isn't D7 the 6 in a 3 6 2 5 into Fmaj? (So the first 4 bars.. are in F) Besides i listened through it again, i don't really think it sounded like i was avoiding the change in the second bar... if so please tell me where cause if it sticks out i'll know what to fix.

P.S. I'll boogy in whatever key i want! haha

  • @MarcSchwartz90 you sound really great man. and I'm only correcting you to help you, but the D7b9 you subbed for the F#07 is not actually in the key of f major. the 6 chord of F major is D min7. the D7 is actually functioning as a secondary dominant to lead you into the Gmin7. so its really fuctioning as V of II. the reason the F# diminished works is because F# diminished is actually the first inversion of D7b9. just trying to help a fellow musician! keep up the great playing.

  • @guitarshreddar1122 actually the D7b9 is part of a 3-6-2-5 which is ultimately leading to 1 so it could be considered to all be in F major...

  • The dim. chord is usually subbed with either a iii or VI7 chord (Am7 or D7b9, if you're in F). If you listen to the piano, he or she hits the D7b9 in the second bar, not the F#dim. Very rarely do I hear people outline that chord while blowing in this song. In reality, that chord SHOULD be a D7b9 for blowing; the diminished chord is for the bass player, so he knows to hit the F# behind the melody.

  • lmao, a c star, yeah right. c star is a closed facing classical mouthpiece, not a warmly bright jazz 'piece. i asked him, because his tone is so good what mouthpiece he is using, and it's a claude lakey hr

  • VERY VERY GOOD, WOW.

  • Excelente improvizacion buena tonalidad y buen sonido y buenos licks Felicidades

  • Heard a lot of Coltrane licks in your playing....really really good! How old are you?

  • Great performance of one of my favourite songs. Nice job!

  • Nice tone and playing. So did you make the band?

  • is he improvising or playing the phil woods solo or what?

  • you have the Same tones as me

  • C star Mouth Piece

  • what it Like In a book On sheet Music Buy IT self?

  • wow sounding good good good. what is your mouthpiece/reed/lig set up?

  • You're good.

  • Nice Playing...Some of my friends are in the Grammy band this year..Did you get in?

  • Don't ever play "Have You Met Miss Jones? in the presence of Bill Clinton.

  • wow that was fantastic! I love this song and that was an excellent performance of it. You deserve a spot in the band.
