over the last month or so I've seen NASA928 flying over the Houston area on almost a daily basis. The everlasting contrail that this plane left one day (9-11,10) is what caught most of Houston's attention, including mine. Since then he has flown nearly everyday. I wish i knew why....
@TheLovegame23 It's an old Martin canberra, a cold war relic. This one looks like it's been refit with more modern fanjets. That large wing area was for carrying capacity,it was originally a bomber.
Considering this aircraft is used for atmospheric sampling and for shuttle take off and landing ops. It had to be up for some atmospheric project. Very interesting that it was loitering in the area of R-4808. Yucca Flat is in that box too so maybe they were doing some kind of radiation air sampling.
Because of how rare this aircraft is this is an amazing video! Thanks for keeping a watch on the skies. I love seeing history like this.
In July of 2005 both NASA 926 and 928 WB-57s were used to photograph the asscent of the shuttle. In what they dubbed the WAVE (WB-57 Ascent Video Experiment). It was used on 2 shuttle flights after NASA resumed shuttle launches. While it isn't used for every launch it has been used in that capacity at some point in time.
Yes, but, NASA 926's duty at this point in time (2009) is not shuttle ops. 926 was here at March just this past month and I was able to listen to BACN ops on one of the frequencies.
What's new 8081rt, It's been a while, how's things up there at Nellis?
I love the design of the tail section on the WB-57, It's right out of WWII. I used to see this 57 out at the Dryden Test Center here at Edwards all the time. A few years back it was in a hangar right down from our complex with it's rear hanging out, some of us were outside and thought it was a WWII medium Bomber like the B-26 because of the design of the tail!
Is there a training/flag exercise currently, or soon? Because this WB-57 also carries a BACN (Battlefield Airborne Communications Node) package. I wonder if it's around the Nellis Complex for joint training purposes?
Thanks. Yeah I heard him get a clearance then rushed over there to film it. No clue. I only say it may have landed at Groom because it was flying over the airspace and didn't return till this afternooon.
Your right most likely it is heading to area 51

That's one helluva set of wings on that badboy. Freakin' huge. Despite it's size, I bet it's pretty fuel-efficient, for a military aircraft.

sounds like its landing?

But for me the NASA markings gave it away!

My guess would be that they are integrating the testing with military activity in the Range, becuase they have brought N901GX out there aswell.

I have never seen one of those. I had to go to Wikipedia to find out more about it. Is that one based at the AFFTC?
Thanks so much for your postings. I really enjoy seeing my tax dollars at work!
