  • 3:31 Orgasm!

  • WASPS SWARM

  • Some day I will see the Reno Air Races in person! One of my lifelong dreams!!!!

  • is it theoretically possible to get more horse power out of the engines, to achieve even higher speeds!? I mean 480 mph are already very impressive!

  • @TheInGenCO Not really. these aircraft were pretty much at there peak. Once you start going so fast in a plane not designed for near sonic or supersonic flight you run into alot of problems like the prop tips will break the sound barrier and send damaging shockwaves though the airframe. And all kinds of weird aerodynamic phenomena. 500 ish is about all your gona get out of a prop driven airframe. still its darn fast!

  • @DARKSCOPE001 ah interesting, thanks for answering!!

  • this is so awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:47 looks like a fw190?

  • @offspringfanman96

It's a Hawker Sea Fury. Think Howard Pardue still owns it.

  • @DocFlt thanks

  • @offspringfanman96 Hawker Sea Fury

  • @LGorrit thanks!

  • the silver one is a hawker sea fury & the camouflage one is a hawker fury

  • I come from near southampton where they built the spitfires in WWII thje sound of those old engines has tears in my eyes. Lets hope the races survive the politicians telling us we cant risk our lives in the pursuit of the perfect run.

  • @dragonfire1804 Big crash in Reno. It's not looking good. Expect further regulation soon.

  • Comment removed

  • @sultros All they really can do is enforce more strict aircraft inspections. They'll probably want crews and officials to go over aircraft with a fine toothed comb even more so. There's not much you can do. I anticipate them announcing new regulations to placate the masses. Maybe move the box seats away from the final turn.

  • @dragonfire1804

    Amen brother

  • @dragonfire1804 I agree couldn't have said it better myself...All this B.S. lawsuits ect, spectator or pilot, we wouldn't be there at these awesome! events if we didn't have it in our "blood" and we all know the risks but the rush from it is beyond words...some get tears, or shivers and I personaly wouldn't trade it for the world! and anyone who sues or complains has no business in the aviation theater

  • us humans are shitty creatures, but, if we are to be remembered for anything, it shall undoubtedly be the FANTASTIC sound of boosted vee-twins, barking radials and screaming jets!! HHHHOOOORRRRSSSSEEEEPPPPPOOOOWWWWEEEEERRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!

  • P-51s e Corsairs são demais! Mas faltou os Spitfires, os P-47 e os P-40 com a boca do tubarão! Gostaria muito de ser um desses pilotos!

P-51's and Corsairs are awesome! Just missed the Spitfire, P-47's and P-40's with the shark mouth! I really would to be one of these pilots!

  • tous ces avions sont magnifiques et quel beau spectacle. la video aussi est tres bien faite,c'est un vrai plaisir a regarder.

    bravo.

  • i feel the need, the need for speed.

  • those are all former wwII fighter jets right?

  • @lobster9207

Regulations permit some types of small Jets as well. But when your dinky jet goes 480 and the 'Stang next to you goes 520 there's not much competition.

  • HORSEPOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow wow wow ! Nothing to say more : lock, ear, and... cry ! Uhhhhhh !!!

  • does anyone know where i can find a video of one of these planes just idling for ages? They must have biiiig hot cams in em cos they are the angryest bastard sounding planes. i love it

  • wheres the P-47's?!?!?!?

  • @x0lamborghini0x there is one at 1:18

  • Where can i buy such planes? It has been my dream for ages and i think i share this with all the people here

  • I've much respect for these pilots

  • what is that dual engine aircraft in 2:23?

  • @SavageJim01 F7F - Tigercat

  • If I ever win or earn one million billion dollars I might decide to do this, in the mean time ill stick to rc planes and masturbation.

  • 1:55-2:01 = Sweetest plane ever.

  • love the engine start at 0:42 of the P-51D 12 cylinder Rolls Royce Merlin engine

  • STREGA is italian???

  • so i imagine most people watching this are pilots ..I was curious what you as pilots think about the airplanes spraying Geo engineered chem trails into are sky's? now whether u believe our not i know you have noticed the planes spraying white chem trails daily ,,there are alarming rates of aluminum and barium being found in our trees and water... again i ask what is your opinion and do any of you pilots have anymore info on were they r landing and taking well we have questions!!!!!!!!!!

  • @illuminated775 Uh...you mean the airplanes that fly really high and have long, white trails following them? Because those are called contrails, and they are a result of water condensing in the wake of the airplane. They are clouds. They are not sprayed out of the airplane. They occur naturally. They are produced by every airplane that flies in the right conditions, including civilian airliners (which is what you are seeing).

Stop being a hippie and learn your atmospheric physics, kid.

  • @VelosiT don"t lost your time with chemtrails conspiracy addicts; i've already to try explaining what is it on another channel, by friendly comments, and their answer was to delete my explanations..so they are just sects.

THEY are the spreaders! they spread all this false ibformations and pollute aviation channels.

  • @hugo36lflx I know I shouldn't, I just can't stand letting stupid people roam free.

  • @hugo36lflx If u can explain these contrails that don't dissipate ill gladly listen.. Im not a conspiracy theorist so let me have it ,i like real hard evidence.. Im from Reno NV and these what u call contrail [CHEM TRAIL]start early in the am and don't stop till the whole sky becomes overcast from it criss crossing each other i also lived right next to the huge airport were planes fly in all day and not one of them ever have the trails that i see coming off these other planes lets talk about it

  • @hugo36lflx and do u disagree that they openly speak about cloud seeding they claim all the resorts in the area pay for it each year ive been following chem trails for a while again please explain and show evidence

  • @illuminated775

I'm interested in aviation, not things which doesn't exist....

Juste type in "Contrail" on Wikipedia, then learn. And only THEN, come back to discuss

  • the sound is so awesome!!!

  • merlin = best noise ever

griffon doesnt sound bad either :)

  • i mean the guy in strega , what is that plane aswell :)

  • whats the aircraft at 1:16, i get goosebumps man, and that guy in the red and white mustang is tearin it up :)

  • @djwilko7 that would be spirit of texas at 1:16

  • STREGAAAAA!!!!!!!

  • what an sound....awesome....cant say any words for this!!!!!

  • why does the P-51's engines flame up like it does at 0:57

  • @brotherbandit Because raw fuel is being dumped into the cylinders. Since it's taking a little linger than usual to fire off, the raw fuel is igniting off the heat of the exhaust stacks.

  • What is the plane making a really fast pass on 2:10 ?

  • @lechatdetom47 It is a Bearcat. One of the more famous unlimited racers is a Bearcat known as Rare Bear.

  • @cholder43 : No it isn't... It looks like a Yak 11... After few search, I found a list of the airplanes, and there was a Yak 11 named Czech Mate. It's it because of the wing shape and the colours.

  • @lechatdetom47 correct that is czech mate, we're hoping she's back in 2011

  • ya i work there every year, its even better when you are on the runway during the unlimited races

  • My god that`s amazing.

  • Damn ,that gave me a hard on,no shit.I've wanted to go to this for the last million years. Thanks really enjoyed that !!!!!!

  • Some questions for those who know...do either the "Radial' or "V" engines have an advantage? I see plenty of both...just wonder what the advantages/disadvantages of both are.

    Nicely crafted video!

  • @greenjeansmjr yes both engines have advantages but they also have trade-offs. generally the radials offer reliability (though since r-3350-93 parts are so rare it's come down), the merlin offers a smaller profile and less fuel, oil, water and adi consumption.

  • For years and years I've dreamed of attending.....I finally just moved to Sparks and hope to FINALLY make it to Stead Field for this. Not too far north of here, and since I'm unemployed....I guess I have the time....

  • @195511SM so did you go?

  • ooohh man is this awesome!!! My dad and mom have been a fan of these races since I was a little kid and I am just now hip to what I have been missing..... I am a huge fan of the Hydroplane races and have been since I was 5 years old.... Gotta love the old piston hudro boats and planes! Man'o Man'o Man!!!!!

  • Any german planes there?

  • @Galf506 a few spanish 109's have graced the pylons, however with the rarity of the german planes it's unlikely we'll see one fly here again. holding out hope for one of the focke-wulf reproductions though.

  • See You there in 2010 ! Cobra Ray Hamlett.

  • reno air races are 20x better than red bull air races. its like an actuall race with multiple planes flying low, fast and close. red bull is 1 plane at a time (BORING). and all the WWII planes are just awesome

  • Watch the BRITISH 2nd world war quickest single engine fighter ------ the Sea Fury

  • Awesome, How fast are they flying?

  • @geneland up to 500 something mph for some

  • Czech Mate!

  • This gives me a boner!!

  • I'm litteraly in love with this aircraft, it looks so modern, so actual, and it is so fast... I even plan to come to Reno next year, to see it live... Thanks guys for your informations !

  • i missing here a Focke Wulf

  • woschi,ver rare aircraft.spares may be a problem.would be interesting though.

  • @russ68y yeah ok, u are right

  • woschi, iwould love to see the focke wulf and p-51 aircraft compete against each other at reno.maybe someday.

  • @Woschl there was a focke-wulf here this year

  • @vendetta81 o cool

  • hey friend and about a p-47? that plane have speed to race?

  • @gio31brasil hello amigo.the p-47n,properly set up would be pretty quick at low level.should offer the others a real challenge.

  • The F4U Corsair Is My All Time Favorite!

  • When I think of an airplane, I think of these beasts. :D

  • how sweet do those motors sound on start up, i love the smoke and flames

  • MUSTANG the best !

  • I would love to see a Mk21 Spitfire in these races... See how well a Griffon powered aircraft would fare.

  • I think the Griffon wouldn't like it, they were less reliable than the Merlin.

  • @edj66 I've checked and some of the fastest and most potent mustangs were and still are running Griffon engines because they make more power than the older Merlin engines do.

  • ooooooo baby what i would do to get my hands on a P-51!

  • I wish some one would fly a P-38 Lightning in these races!

  • Merlin V-12. Sexiest aircraft powerplant EVER.

  • Too SWEET. Thanks!

  • What is the black twin carrier based bird??? S-2 D?

  • @silverbird58 Grumman F7F Tigercat

  • Guys, what is the model of the big red aircraft with the yellow flaming on the side ?

  • @ratatouille78 I believe it was a Hawker Sea Fury

  • Thanks a lot for your reply, I fell in love with this aircraft, don't know why ! Can somebody give me more details about it ?

    Thanks Jyokid !

  • seafury was a navy aircraft, usa made it to use in WWII against japs but the war is over before the sea fury enter in service! when in a dogfight a german Fw pilot got lost in the air after a dogfight,so he landed in a enemy airfield, english, then they got the fw-190 and learned some thing to use in sea fury! if you pay atention the designs look like fw 190!

  • strega won a great race that year and ever since rare bear got back into reno air races the plane moulfunctioned every year

  • go rarebear

  • Stunning quality, just great. Thx for sharing this with us!

  • 2:50 wow that a beast!

  • Ak4570, great video!

You are a pure hardcore Unlimited fan.

No music, no talk .....just unlimiteds!

In my years since 1967, this was the best race.

Strega shook off Rare Bear, avoided wake turbelence of September Fury and walked by it, and then literally ran down a VERY fast Dago Red.

P-51, the only top unlimited with the original engine and with the fewest cubic inches!

    P-51 #1

  • 2:09 yak11 may favorite!

  • We need some GErman planes up in here.

wait no, that would be unfair, because the german planes would always win.

    good thing..........

  • @Howie262

Fact - the P-38 would outrun every German prop plane built during the war, and even the Me-262 at some altitudes

  • @noonedude101 I seriously doubt that bro, seeing how the Me-262 flew 100 mph's faster then any of the next fastest american fighters...

dont plan on commenting back bro, i dont talk to bias guys....

  • @Howie262

As a general rule, it could - but at certain altitudes (I think 10-15000ft) where the props were really biting and those superchargers at their most effective, it could

  • @noonedude101 Eh.... saying a twin prop could compete with a swept-wing jet is sort of comical...

even if the p38 could compete at those speeds @ altitude, it shurely wouldnt handle like the me-262. Agility / handling.

Bottom line though, My comment saying that there are no German Air race planes....

i think is sad, some one should remake some just for fun and compete...

it would be interesting and it would actually spark more competition...

  • @Howie262

The 262 couldn't turn worth crap... It was taught that if you got into a fight with a 262, make it turn because you'll get inside every time. It's job was to make slashing attacks at bomber formations

But, either way. If you know anyone with about 12M US, there's a guy in Ohio that builds exact replicas. They even perform the same

  • @Howie262 The Me109 and the Fw-190 both got torched by P-51's and P-47's. And the later F4U models and Bearcats too. The Me262 is the only German fighter that was able to excell beyond that. And they would fly against the jet class not the unlimiteds. So, no, they would not always win. They would rarely win.

  • @NevadaWrangler im sry but you had a little too much discovery channel lately. Especially the P-51 was very hard to handle because it was very heavy. In a dogfight the 109 is clearly superior. The most kills were simply scored because the fighters werent attacked by the germans but the bombers. Its rather easy to shoot a plane down when the pilot doesnt focus on you.

  • @Buemmo thanks bro!

  • @NevadaWrangler I wouldnt really say that bro, every plane had their advantages .....

With out a doubt the germans always put better guns in their planes.

Being that the bf-109 had a 20mm cannon in the prop nose standard along with upgradable wing machine guns and 20/30mm cannons...

where US planes are stuck with only 50.cal machine guns on the wings.

The Germans also always have the top scoring aces in every war.

you should Take a look at some of them.

  • This IS alot like NASCAR, and while I would rather go to the races at Reno than the races at Talledega, Nascar is still incredibly fun and exciting. The Red bull Air Races are awesome though !!!!

  • Nascar drivers = Noobs.

    Reno pilots = Awesome!

  • This looks basically like air-nascar to me.

  • yeah, except unlike nascar, this is actually AWESOME!

  • you said it.

  • You're correct about everything but the "the flames are injested back into the engine". Of course they aren't, the flames burn up and do NOT go back into the engine through the exhaust...

  • Warning all viewers!............Please turn your volume up as the soundtrack is superb.

  • Hae expert, how you manage to "ingest" flames back into the engine trought the exhaust ?

  • When starting you prime the engine (squirting raw fuel into the engine). You set your throttle about 1/4 inch open, then advance the mixture full rich and retard to a lean position. You turn on the ignition, fuel pump and then advance the starter counting 10 to 12 blades (this sends oil moving as the blades turn), You then advance the mixture, the engine will start. the flames are injested back into the engine.

  • 0:54 - why it makes flames if it not start yet?

  • Unburnt fuel

  • It can happen if the pilot doesn't prime the engine enough.

  • yeah, he flew strega last year. I think that steve hinton junior is flying it this year.

  • hinton jr made some passes at the High Desert Fly-In in AZ this past May... he was in Wee Willy II (P-51D).

  • tiger destefani is an asshat, almost killed mike brown and dan martin while doing an illegal pass. there is even a cockpit video of this, yet the officials didn't even want to see it.

  • tiger is the one in the mustang?

  • good video excelent

  • Woo-Hoo! Soon the mighty warbirds compete once again! YIPPEE!

  • Just over a month away. can't freakin wait.

  • Man, the sound!

    Its owsome!

    I cant explain!

  • fucking spectecular

  • i love the sounds of these engines but, i would choose the sound of a merlin over these any day

  • The Redbull Airace looks harmless against Reno Airace!

  • @BryanJ1994 different thing all togheter. at redbull they even compete in dogfight

  • @BryanJ1994 different things, apples and oranges!

  • @BryanJ1994 Redbull Airace is for pussies

  • @richard1575

    LOL yes it is ^^

  • @richard 1575 one race is speed one race is accuracy, neither are precision flying

  • Excellent vid, thanks!

  • the sounds and the race reminds me of pod race in star wars episode1!

  • 0:32 Yakovlev 11?

  • yea but with a P&W 2800 engine

  • niiiice

  • you ..are...so..f&^%g lucky m8 ..thx for the info im very ipressed and happy to see ww2 bird in that great shape

  • BTW, this event is Sept 14-20 this year. You come once...you'll come back every year, trust me. This only happens once a year and it only happens here...

  • i have only missed the year i was born and 1 other year so i have been going for 11 years in a row

  • Yes, these are real WWII aircraft and yes, it's that crazy. I've been a pylon judge for the National Championship Air Races since 2001 and this week in September is blocked out of my calendar from now until the day I die! I @#$%ing incredible. Standing at my pylon (I judge the jets and unlimiteds) these guys fly right over my head at 500mph, 50-75 off the deck.. Words can't describe that rush!

  • are the ww2 planes real ones??authenic??

  • for anybody who loves prop planes, this is great, what a vcry fast planes

  • My goodness that was awesome. I am going to start a savings fund now and maybe I may get to see the event one day.

  • My god this is awesome! When does this event happen?

  • Sept. 16-20 this year. The Blue Angels will be there too!

  • why dont they race the mk19 or 21 spitfire? or are they on the endangered list

  • Yeh its becouse there's not many of them going around!

  • anyone know whether september fury and big bossman will be racing this year?

  • both of those planes are owned by the september pops racing team so they most likely will be...i will see you there :)

  • but i thought MB sold them?

  • Yeah, last I checked they were up for sale.

  • Sold! Go team Strega!

  • 2:22 omg awsome

  • Very nice movie of very interesting kind of air sports. It's have classic style of air races from the past... :)

  • at 2:43 thats a dam good looking air plane =)

  • Hurrah for the Sea Fury!

Gotta go see that some day......

  • but dego red didn't win! nor rare bear

  • that was an awsome race! i was there!

  • Great footage. should be an interesting year in 09 with mike brown selling his 3 racers, and I heard Howard is staying in Texas.
