  • The only reason that Renault got more 5 stars in euroNcap is that the 2001-2007 volvo v70 never got tested, everyone knew it would be a 5 star, and i think Reanult produces more models and therefore can get more 5star grades. I don't think a volvo today would get less than 5 stars, and if euro Ncap starts with a 6:th star volvo will surley get that one fast

  • Niggers can't afford this.

  • CAR IS BUILT LIKE A TANK , NO STOPING FOR NOBODY

  • the volvo is chuck norris

  • @BrunostNOR I know a guy who got 10 cars!!! Stupid or what???

  • very god

  • Very Good!

  • Only bad thing about volvo is that people dont know how great of a car it is. I checked one out by random while my dad was looking at 4 runners and stuff. I hopped in and immediately fell in love. Comfy seats, had real nice features that most cars charge you out the butt for and watching videos its pretty safe too. We have 4 toyotas...I want to add a volvo to our herd of Japanese cars...

  • @ripsnorting13 wow, why do you have 4 cars????

  • @BrunostNOR i have 4 cars aswell...1 mine 1 father's 1 mother's and 1 little panda 4x4 for snow ftw ;D

  • Nice

  • its iihs...

  • My mother has a 2009 Volvo XC90. It's a really great SUV! I feel very safe in it. I actually was reading on a blog that said the XC90 is the safest vehicle in the world. My mother is a horrible driver though, haha! I guess if we ever get in a wreck, we will be protected safely by Volvo technology!

  • i have a 1972 volvo 142E that when you have a frontal crash, the doors will still open

  • Mate that isnt ncap, Its IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Saftey of America) ;)

  • in fairness there is a fair few feet between the people in the the car and the crash. thanks to the huge bonnet

  • 2004 Volvo XC90 for life BABY!!!!

  • Have you ever seen the mess that a Landrover is in after the exact same test? I owned 3 Landrover Discoveries and all three were bags of bolts held together by rust. All 3 needed replacement gear boxes just after the warranties ran out. I bought a brand new XC90 in 2004 and the only thing I have ever had to do to it is put new tyres on.

An excellent vehicle that I can not praise enough

  • lol this is iihs not ncap

  • to teda není zas tak odolný

  • This is gonna convince my father to buy one.... :D

  • Look for "Chine car crash test". Saddddd fate for the safest automaker.

  • les nouvelle volvo sont pas terrible =(

  • TANK

  • this is actually an iihs crash test

  • i got slammed by a runaway car back in 04, my Dodge Neon airbag deployed and i walked away just fine.

  • saw a guy in a hummer and volvo xc90 crash into each other both of them were completely fine, but damn i think volvo is this first car to keep people who get hit by hummers safe.

  • epic

  • oh man... best crash test ive ever seen.

  • Very good car

  • No Ford Bought volvo. they had no choice

  • @TheRunescapernerd And now geeley(chinese) own it, do you think it will be better.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheRunescapernerd Geely bought Volvo :P

  • @meringandan the chinese can't do any good cars och things, they suck...

  • I heard Volvo was purchased by a chinese company! You know how bad chinese cars fare in crash tests! :(

  • @Vortex845 you serious ?

    dude that's awful news....

i really hope they lied or something.. it just can be true that one of the best cars in the world to be in chinese hands :((

  • @cata18tm "Ford confirmed yesterday it had completed a $1.5 billion deal to unload Volvo to China's Geely, signaling an end of an era and China's biggest acquisition of a foreign car maker".

  • @Vortex845 Ford bought Volvo.

  • @doogrisa geely bought volvo

  • Will a volvo also offer protection against a collision with a 10 ton truck?

  • @generaldeejee What's the difference between a 10 ton truck and a solid wall as shown in the video?

  • @NutsandGuts The truck has kinetic energy that the wall hasn't

  • @NutsandGuts The car will be crushed like a tank driving over it, I think

  • @generaldeejee well that's why trucks are supposed to have very low bumpers so that cars don't go under them. though yeah there's nothing you can do if the truck crushes you against a wall.

  • this car can be crashed ?

  • a volvo is such a safe car to drive. why can't every sports car that can hit 200mph+ be that safe?

  • i h8 when they do this cuz they throw out the car right after that and waste a $20000 car. when i cant even buy a $8000 car

  • dude this isnt ncap test!

Insurance intitute for highway saftey did this!!! noob

  • Yes they are very safe, but you pay a price for that too. Worth it if you're gonna crash I guess...

  • @5342abc It's worth it to own and "If " you crash it you'll likely walk away, i own 2 of them and have had many cars in my lifetime and with age come's wiseness...

  • volvo is #1 at safety!

  • @songer885

    watch?v=k3ygYUYia9I

Watch it, and then say something.

Volvo is no safer than the rest of the cars

on the road, these days. Yes, in 1980s

they were safer, but thats no longer a case.

  • @83ls

You just compared a very old Volvo estate to a brand new Renault, that isn't a fair test. Why don't you compare a new Volvo to a new Renault for example, that estate is at least over 10 years old.

  • that was only my opinion. I know more advanced technologies have been made but that's my opinion.

  • @83ls

Volvo safety has always been about properly matching safety systems with crashes likely to be encountered in the real world.

The Volvo 240 used a heavy steel body coupled with a solid uni-body with an incredibly thick firewall. It was expected to hit heavy-metal cars from the '70s.

The Volvo 850 used softer metals, but used higher grade steels for the uni-body and for variable strengthening. It was expected to hit the softer cars from the '80s and 90's.

    Volvos change with the times.

  • @songer885 saab is more safety

  • @megasvennen No actually volvo got more 5stars and renault the most.

  • @yamahaevo i know volvo are a little better but saab is much better than a renault because Volvo and saab have the most safe car in the world!

  • I want one like this it can be easier way to get caught by the police -.-"

  • wow, now thats 1 tough volvo!

  • cool

  • V -vison

    O-ownage

    L-likable

    V-verses and wins!

    O- owns all cars

    :D

  • volvos are safe yet burn gas fast

  • @briancjchu Well there is a lot of wheight in Volvos like most luxury cars, plus there is more safety equipment.

  • Ever heard of "Slow Motion" ?

  • 65 km/h

  • volvo is so awesome i have self one. a xc70 d5 he needs 7 liters for 100 km. hes fast and safety :D. VOLVO FOR LIFE!! :D

  • @roelflok how is the mechanical reliability? I've heard some good and not so good things about volvo's engine, and etc. but i love their design and sturdy construction.

  • @roelflok

    Lesje Engels zou niet misstaan...

  • If u can afford 2 expensive cars. Why buy those boring ones? Why not a 911? And i think some Volvos will give ur A4 3.2 a run for its money when it comes to speed altough Volvo doesnt give a shit about being fast.

  • because im not the only one who drives them.I guess the a4 can be considered by some to be boring i raced it against my friends 2007 s40 t5 and it beat that by a fair bit. Thats volvos best in that size of a car.The S5 isnt boring tho, nice v8 in it,pretty quick ,looks nice and it costs60grand less than the 911

  • Volvo has been about family and safety there sorta starting into performance in models like the c30 and some R models not there yet but an effort none the less

  • But a volvo could get hit by both off those cars at the same time from any direction and everybody would still be okey in the volvo.

  • am i the only one to notice that this is a crash tese done by the IIHS not NCAP

  • Ditt namn speglar ju dig rätt bra.

Finns knappt några säkrare bilar. Skulle aldrig villja ha en volvo, men säkra är de.

  • your speech made me cry. So true! VOVLO FOR LIFE!

  • That's a lot of smoke. I haven't seen that in other crash tests. I wonder what happened in this one.

  • Its not smoke, its air stuff from the air bags :)

  • thats not smoke its gasses from the air bags

  • The husband of my cousine has died in a such xc90, when meet a mercedes Actros truck frontal. The man falls apart :(( sad

  • Mercedes a safe car

  • volvo is safer :)

  • Not as safe as Vlovo

  • Watch the v70 and compare this one to it. I think both of them are safe.

  • i should get a volvo as my first car!

  • I AM getting a Volvo as my first car. : )

  • congratulations!

  • Volvo=Be safe

  • they don´t even have crash test dolls anymore, i could sit in that car in a crash test if i were paid :)

  • I also thrust volvo as much as you do so we two could act testdummies, $1.000.000 each month and I would do it :D

  • volvo is very security

  • i have a Volvo ^_^ and their really safe too :)

  • this is why volvo is awsome, anyone please check out the video on the right of the f-150 truck crash test and compare it to this one you will see

  • Volvo always led the car industry in safety ( like they really set safety as priority)

i think its an good crash passangers survived

  • Crashing looks pretty comfortable in a Volvo.

  • is thast good or bad it looks like i would be fucked

  • volvo usualy scors high so you'll be safe ...

  • You'd open the door and walk away. Might be coughing a bit from the airbag smoke though

  • @whattheheck1000 The dummy's head hit the windscreen in rebound at such a force that the L7 and jawbone split after the crash. This is a case where the car actually multiplies the end damage. How can you say you would walk away? Spine compression and broken legs are not shown, as well as any rear seated occupants. This is a horrible example of pride over reality. Volvo does not equall safe.

  • @gpgab971 "Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the A-pillar/roof rail hit was low."

    - From the IIHS web site, they did the crash test.

  • @gpgab971 I agree. This person would be in for a decompressive laminectomy at the minimum. That being said, an impact this great would yield a similar result with similar vehicles. The only issue is this is not a typical impact. I would like to see results from a 40-50kph test.

  • @whattheheck1000 It's not smoke :) It's an antibiotic agent

  • @whattheheck1000 you would have the potential to be killed in this crash.

  • @sneakyabcd To quote IIHS: "Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the A-pillar/roof rail hit was low."

In layman's terms - you'd walk away. Where's the potential to be killed? The head impact was 27 g-forces; it takes an impact of 70 g-forces or more to lower the head injury rating from "Good" to "Acceptable". 27 is WELL below 70.

    March 13, 2011 4:33 pm

  • @whattheheck1000 you can kill yourself from hitting the top of your head on a shelf. What I'm saying is that you should rarely use absolutes. You can't say that 100% of the time in crashes like this (in this car) that you will walk away. Based on what you said though, this car is clearly crash-worthy.

  • @sneakyabcd Odds of death would be exceptionally low - maybe one in a million, literally. Odds of walking away might not be 100%, maybe 95%-97%.

  • @whattheheck1000 yes, and since we both agree that the chances of walking away are not 100% you should have said "You'd probably open the door and walk away...." not that you would walk away. I may sound technical right now, but my point is in life you really don't get very many guarantees.

  • @sneakyabcd Oh I see... risk of serious injury was very low, but there.

    March 14, 2011 7:34 pm

  • @sneakyabcd =)

  • @whattheheck1000

    ino i got that car

  • @Hughbypie Good for you (: You're safe.

    April 2, 2011 8:56 pm

  • very impressive

  • Not so sure about the engine, but if I ever got into a car accident I would want to be in a Volvo.

  • wow very safe i love volvo!

  • probably the safest car in the world!

  • not probably, it is the safest car in the world

  • What makes volvo safe? O.o

  • simply everything

  • material, metal, hard people work, car brand

  • It is one of the safest cars in the world, however, the W140 model for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the safest, they even had bullet proof glass.

  • MB are great cars,of higher quality than volvos but don't forget that S-class' price tag is at least double than this volvo, so you'd expect another level of safety.

  • Just because its expected doesn't mean its there. Hell, for double the price of a Volvo, id be amazed if the Benz wasn't of higher quality.

  • Quite a bit of smoke..from the airbag.

  • i love this a car

  • what's the impact speed?

  • 40mph

  • I crashed a volvo S60 at 60MPH

not one scratch, just some bruises and one broken finger due to the airbag impact on my hand

  • This car did really well, however im starting to think that Volvos are a little overrated nowadays. There are some Toyota and Honda SUVs that can easily perform this well in a crash test. Even the Mercedes ML can match this

  • That's because the Volvo XC90 model was designed in 2001, almost 8 years ago. Even the latest model has only got an external facelift. The base model is the same for the 05 and 07 one. In 8 years, a lot can happen.

  • 4maticbenz, there is no dount the ml can match this, benzes are safe

  • The Civic fanboy faggot is a fucking retard. Who the fuck do you compare a Civic to a Volvo, were you born in a mental hospital?

  • i am comparing the civic to volvos in safety mofo

if your volvo is so "safe", then how come some "ricers" are getting just as good and even better than your "safe" volvo?

  • 40 mph or 64 kmh

  • Roughly, how fast was the XC90 when it collided with the wall?

  • 40 mph

  • Better than Hummer or Escalade!

If you want eternal safety on wheels, get Volvo.

  • why doesn't Volvo make an Electric powered XC90, problem solved. what is volvo waiting for? the battery technology is ready, see altairnano batteries. the customers all want cars that don't pollute. automakers/dealerships need to get into the solar panels rooftop business, that way I, we can buy a new electric powered car, ie XC90 and fuel it up at night off the electricity we saved with the rooftopsolar panels. The electric meter runs backwards during the day hours, and forward at night. Sweet!

  • The batteries are too cumbersome and does not give the range of current fuels. The technology is not ready quite yet.

  • Can somebody tell me how fast the cars drive in such a Crash Test?

  • I think, for every crash test, the speed is 40 mph, aprox 60 kmh

  • Thank you very much. = )

  • The IIHS crashes at 38 mph I think, and the NHSTA crashes at 35mph

  • No, it's 40 mph - 64km/h

  • Thanks for the Correction ! yeah im not good at converting mph to km/h!

  • Well, here's how it is done: 1mph = 1.6 km/h

And when you need kilos from miles, multiply the miles by 0.625

  • hahaha when I wonder about it I look at the speedometer when Im driving.

  • Volvo make very safe cars. Few people choose safe cars they instead choose toyota and honda for only excellent fuel economy and big names....

    shame.

  • Honda and Toyota also make safe vehicles, look at some of the IIHS crash tests. And sometimes Honda and Toyota are safer than Volvo and Mercedes - the 2006 Civic and C-class side impacts - Civic does better. Same for Civic and some other Volvo sedans.

  • OK, try hitting a moose with a civic, or rolling over a civic. Dumbass, why do you think European cars cost so much more? Honda and toyota make great reliable cars, but you can't compete with euro safety. Look at the NCAP, not US gov safety ratings.

  • I think that I would survive in a Civic. I look at IIHS tests, and they say that in the side impact tests, Volvo sedans do worse. Honda and Toyota are more reliable and offer comparable safety. So I would rather buy a Honda or a Toyota.

  • NO DONT BUY HONDA OR TOYOTA THEY ARE THE NOOBIEST CARS EVER. look on volvo other crash test they own toyota and honda

  • Lol, don't be ignorant

JD Power and CR both say that Honda and Toyota are more reliable than Volvo. And the Japs are getting just as good as the Swedes in safety

  • yeah?omg

but volvo is still owning toyota and honda they are more safier and thats why people buying volvo. people just buying honda or toyota becuse they are not so expensive or they whant a sport car.And volvo have sports car and all of them are safe, or it's a nice car for the family. plus volvo always get good results in crash test or something else like, ofroad, comfort, driving in the winter.and the japs are not getting good as the volvo becuse i alredy compered

  • Volvo is good in many areas, I just want to say that the Japs have greatly improved in the past years. and no way are honda and toyota sport cars

  • Lies. Nothing can compete safety wise with Volvos - esp the S80 or new XC60.

  • The S80 is safe, no doubt. But the Civic does better than the S40 and S60 in the IIHS side impacts

  • I've been looking at the 2006 Civic side impact tests (and others, for that matter), and frankly, the passengers look safer in the Volvo 850/(S/V)70 - side impact wise.

  • Well then you are an ignorant dumbass

the loading on the driver's chest in the Civic is much lower vs the S80

and there is less glass in the occupant compartment for the civic

  • I guess that's why the S80 is the IIHS "2008 Top Safety Pick". Or maybe they're ignorant, too. The barrier clearly intruded more in the Civic than the S80. Also, the windscreen on the S80 is damaged alot less than the Civic's.

Not only that, but in frontal crashes, the Civic's damage is catastrophic in comparison to the S80's.

On a final note, does the Civic have an accident avoidance system? No. I doubt, also, that it has Dynamic Stability Traction Control.

  • Wow, you're a dumbass. The latest gen Civic was a 2006 IIHS Top Safety Pick. The 2009 Civic has ESC in both Canada and the US. The 2006-2009 Civic gets the highest rating for the front, side and rear tests. The S80 does just as well as the Civic in the front and rear tests, but is worse in the side impact. Every auto maker tries to name their ESC program with something catchy to make it sound better than the competition. The current Civic has an ESC system that's just as good

  • It's not just as good. The dynamic stability traction control not only uses the ABS to stabilise the car, it also limits power to individual wheels. I know what the differences are: I own a 1998 V70XC with ESC - it's different to DSTC. The 2008 S80 got the highest ratings in all tests: including the side impact test. In my view, the side of the Honda was more deformed than the S80 in all impact directions.

DSTC is standard on all S80 models. Is it standard on the Civic?

  • I point out again: the Civic has no form of accident avoidance systems. It's all good having a structurally safe car, but it's something else to have a car avoid an accident for you, performing techniques beyond your judgement at the time.

  • Okay, moron, the 2009 Civic EX-L and Si models have ESC as standard. Also, EBD and ABS is standard on all models and trims. Also, the Civic does better in the IIHS side impact than the Mercedes C and E classes and the Volvo S40 and S60

  • I doubt that. ESC is old technology. It was introduced, by Volvo, in the 1991 850 - standard on the highest models, and optional on the lower. DSTC is standard on all Volvos now. Your 'safe' Civic is years behind.

I point out, yet again, that your Civic doesn't have any form of accident avoidance system.

  • OKay, fuck off loser. Your DSTC is the same shit as ESC. Besides, it must suck to have to pay twice as much for a Volvo to have comparable or even worse safety performance

  • Bare in mind that the S80 is leagues ahead of the Civic in terms of quality control, performance, and equipment. DSTC is totally different to ESC.

ESC: Uses the ABS system on individual wheels to counteract the sway or slip of the car in the undesired direction.

DSTC: Uses ABS on individual wheels just like ESC, but also limits power to each wheel depending on what suits the situation.

In a nutshell: ESC uses ABS only.

: DSTC uses ABS and limits power to the wheels.

  • man, ur stupid

all esc systems apply individual brakes to keep the vehicle in control

also, power to one or more wheels may be limited

    abs helps with stopping

  • In one word: No.

Pretty much all older ESC systems didn't disrupt power to the wheels. You should really know more about what you're talking about before you call ME stupid.

  • hmm, if i know so little, then how come that's what wiki says as well

  • lol you get your knowledge from wikipedia? It's a great side, undoubtedly, but... wikipedia? Are you serious?

Anyway, I have driven cars with ABS only ESC systems so... Wikipedia can't prove reality wrong.
