Try a 2 stage firing. Fire to about 575F for an hour with the kiln vented, then close it up and do your normal firing schedule. You need to have some oxygen in the kiln to burn out that binder or else you just make charcoal. Your final piece should have a glossy surface and vibrant colors.

The glass seems to hold together better using clay vs the freeze and frit, and the final product is not as fragile using the clay method.
