Man, I really never appreciated the gentle soul that George was as a human. He was so well-balanced. A very deep person who was in touch with his real self.
the beatles realized music was changing again & they coudn't quite top what they had accomplished.....i mean quit while your ahead instead of becoming a joke......they excelled at every style too........tell me helter skelter isn't proto metal? the curtain must inevitably fall on evry act.......less they become caricature........someone tell the rolling stones.......people still wanna see em' cause they grew up with em'
@marbleheadband agree.... " it's better to burn out than it is to rust" as Neil Young put it.... but it wasnt just music changing.. The Beats had that mastered, theyre the ones that changed it after all... it was personality conflicts, lack of management direction and George needing more space to create... george was right, they amassed a pile of goodwill that lasted the rest of their lives.
I love George but..During an interview, (sitting before a camera, God-knows the number of people watching and listening to every word said,' the interviewee must be careful how he/she answers. 'It's not Yoko's fault.' Sure. Can you imagine if George had said, 'Yoko was to blame.' I envision lawsuits, & degrading verbal communication. Replies are edited. In some cases, an interviewer is prohibited asking certain questions. At times answers are prepared before an interview. I love George but Toni
Sad for Beatles splitting up, but I agree with George that to be grown up people sometimes have to change, and start new episode of their life. It's good they're split while at peak, so they would be forever. I can't imagine watching them growing old, lesser creative, and their music die as Beatles..
Think of it this way - they don't need to keep doing it, they're all millionaires...they're doing it NOW because well, possibly its the only thing they know...possibly because they dont wanna get old...possibly because they wanna be the longest-running "band"...but PROBABLY because they love doing it!
It's like McCartney - he of all people doesn't NEED to do it but he still does because he loves it, and the public are still crying out for anything Beatles-related...
Allen Klein. The one and only reason for the split. Paul wanted no part of him, the others insisted on Paul's signing with Allen. So Paul left the band and ended their contractual relationship in as much as possible to avoid getting tangled up legally and financially with Klein. In the end it was all about money.
@SOLISDEUS Oh, there was a lot of personal, inside stuff. Really, I just think they'd been living in a fishbowl together for years, under intense scrutiny, and they all got sick of one another. Also, George wanted his artistic contributions to be taken more seriously, and John and Paul kinda ignored him. They needed to break up to grow as people, that happens with a lot of relationships.
I think your right about the fishbowl thing - Lennon himself said the Let It Be fly-on-the-wall stuff made the situation worse...
Even if they'd split up for a few years - it WOULD'VE been nice for Lennon's "Rock'n'Roll" album to have been a proper Beatles live-in-studio one like the original Let It Be sessions tried to strive for
@SOLISDEUS Dont make claims that youre not sure of. A lot of shit happened, but in the end these guys did what THEY wanted. And it was the wisest thing they could have done. They are legends.
@notnilccm Lennon's herion addiction, Yoko, Georges frustration as the third banana, all created angst....but it was the money. John, Ringo and George spent a decade in court breaking their contractual agreement with Klien. Paul, advised well by the Eastmans' law firm was saved from that mess. Paul, after leaving, could not reunite from fear of being tangled up again with Klien.
Right on. George put it very well. Sad the beatles didn't stay longer but i'd rather have seen them break up out of bordom or frustrations than to have bitter disputes and fighting in court. The best of the matter is their music is forever even if the band isn't.
George has such a positive outlook on the split which is good. The band's split was just destined to be. If it hadn't happened, we wouldn't have gotten to see them all develop their own identity as a solo artist. Always being tied back to the beatles must have been difficult at times, but in the end, they all amounted to really great artists. (:
Yeah - the Beatles were MAJOR when it came to style-evolution...but listen to all their solo albums, COULD they have combined them all into a single style which suited everyone? (John's stuff very piano-based and minimalist, Paul's kind of country-rock, George's grand production with horns and strings...it would've just been like the white album all over again which is (I think) what they've said STARTED most of the arguments)
@addylewis personally, I think if they had stayed a band any longer it would have been a disaster. They probably would have argued about every little thing which would cause their music to have been a lower quality. I'm glad they split when they did because I think they all got to experiment with their talents. And yes I DO think they could have fit a style that suited everyone. For several years they DID. It was time for something new. Just like George said.
If you look at the dynamics of the Beatles as a band, perhaps the break up was inevitable. It was basically 3 solo artists with a drummer.very very difficult to contain 3 egos, perhaps its a miracle they even lasted that long
I find it interesting that george seems to take the same view as john on the split, I think they were very similar, johns my favourite beatle but without a doubt george harrison was so talented and i think it was good they split as we got to see his talents more and not in the shadows, just my opinion
@dshishod true, John and George, ringo and Paul. the two groups sorta hung around said people, they even had the same style per say.. john and george, with long hair and beards, Paul ringo and shorter hair little to no mustache.. even the music styling.
John and George's solo careers hold a lot more weight for me than Macca's stuff. The only Paul album I listen to regularly is "McCartney 1" and my admiral Hadley 45
I'm not into the idea most people are in that, we just love to place all these accolades on human beings & tout them in our minds as something more than they are. These were good musicians for that era who have influenced others since, but I don't immortalize anyone beyond being human beings. Most people love nostalgia & to impose renown simply because they don't consider their lives perhaps as exciting or successful, hence a needed deference beyond musical effect. "Stars" are just people too.
@toocoolotool218 Thanks man. I appreciate that even though the thought isn't always a popular one no doubt. People aren't what we offer them in acclaim. They are exactly what they are, people, nothing more, nothing less. Acclaim is nothing more than offered or surrendered but is nonetheless a human guise of renown.
@47TheSteve well they were the greatest band of all time. that's kind of a big deal. they're heroes to people, inspiration to musicians, and just outstanding musicians and people. they were great. why wouldn't we look at them as something more. they deserve it and i will continue to do so
"Ringo" fans.... In honor of Ringo's 70th, I hope U will check out my "RINGO"video. It's very retro with Beatleish touches & was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. My attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.
The beauty of the Beatles is that it did end when it did. Thankfully they didn't milk it for every last nickel. Even when they were offered like 20 or 30 million dollars to reunite in the mid-seventies, they considered it and talked to each other but, thankfully passed on it.
He was real happy they split his album All Things Must Pass was the biggest selling album of 1970...On Paul being superficial he is a bit old world entertainer and he rolls out the same stories and arrangements because they work in his estimation- I think its fair to criticize though on the 48 hours special I thought it was great actually- he opned up a bit, not superficial at all actuallu- he is a bit more guarded than George and John
There was Yoko*s fault of break up Beatles. Paul admited it.

Brian Epstien's death took a heavy toll, and many knew that that siginfied the beginning of the end. The lack of discipline and financial and touring advice hurt them alot.
I don't think George was being critical of "others who would carry on"(Stones?), just that it wasn't what the Beatles - or at least John and him - wanted to do.
Don't be mad at Yoko. Redirect your anger at Brian Epstein for dying of a drug overdose. Once that happened the Beatles were burdened with all the financial and legal responsibilities, which created the rift between the band members. On top of that, they weren't touring anymore so all they were doing as a musical entity was creating music in a recording studio, which became a major bore to John and George. I believe they would have still broken up regardless of Yoko Onos presence.
Wow! 'kingreing222' - nobody likes your comment. Is it true that you're a complete cunt? I bet it is?..
Let me tell you something that you need to know; you just can't go around 'hating' people - c'mon - you're old-enough to understand this by now.
Let me say this; you are a cunt. - plain and simple...
BTW; what do you mean by - 'that hate rub on me'? Do you realise this doesn't even read properly? Did you MEAN it to read like this? I think you did. I firmly believe that you are a cunt..
George was very wise... The wisest and frienliest of the 4. He`s right, since the death of Brian Epstein and their failed trip to India they started to have problems. Maybe Yoko came to be the drop that split the cup but, what a hell, John needed a mother-liked figure and having still George as a friend, fucked ego Paul. By the way, someone should show these words to the Rolling Stones or to MaCartney himself, who are still singing the same old shoe... PEACE GEORGIE
George was deffinately a very wise man, i wouldn't say the nicest of the 4 though. Ringo has got to be the nicest of the 4 lads. John was also a very wise person. Paul could be nice in public, but certainly had a controlling issue about him. George could get nasty if you rubbed him the wrong way, and was very much an isolationist. Not to say that he also couldn't turn on the charm, but i believe Ringo the be the most open, and consistantly friendliest of the four..
Also pertaining to your comment about the Stones and Paul, (if you're using George's words here as a source) keep in mind George also said in this interview, that they split up to do what THEY wanted. So maybe Paul and the Rolling Grave Stones, are having fun keeping it going? True it'd be nice to hear a GOOD new tune out of them, every now and then, but, they have to be happy to keep it up this long?
Yeah, you're right. Though i´m not sure if Georgie was isolationist or selective with the people he wanted to share life. I think he didn't like superficial people (even if they were good artist like Paul) and made lifelasting friends like Clapton, Russell, Ringo, Petty, Dylan, Elton, Preston...
Yea after i wrote that i thought better of it, but oop too late lol.. No i didn't mean isolationist in the true sense, more in the sense that he really liked to keep to himself.. but yea that Paul crack was priceless! lol
Did you see him on the show 48hours a few years ago? only told what he wanted people to hear, I saw him live at Foxboro stadium in the 90's, it was a great show, heard him recorded live four months later, and every ad lib joke, every thing he said was exactly the same as what he said in Foxboro, it was show that might as well have been a recording, very disengenuos, Paul should have thought about a pre-nup, Great musical artist, but a true Dipshit in life.
we miss you John and George.
I saw you standing there, join the vid on andyoutupe's profile

@SouthParkPerson12 "most wisest" makes absolutely no sense.

No i didn't mean isolationist in the true sense, more in the sense that he really liked to keep to himself.. but yea that Paul crack was priceless! lol

Paul is absolutely superficial!
