  • A great song from Big Country! Too bad this was their only singles release in the U.S.. "In A Big Country" peaked on Billboard's Hot 100 pop singles chart in July 1983! R.I.P., Stuart Adamson.

    Bravo, Big Country!

  • Makes me want to go 3 wheelin.....

  • Truly a group ahead of their time. Fantastic sound!

  • I rate it up there with Don't You (FAM) by Simple Minds, being tied in with The Breakfast Club will always hold that song immortal...

  • this song is awesome.

  • This has to be one of the greatest songs to have ever come out in the 80's! Dang! It is one heck of a totally awesome song! The beat is just magnificent and the song is unbeatable! It just makes you wanna get up and dance or hit the skating rink! I sure miss those days of great music like this being played continuously on the radio. You never had to change the channel back then. Every song was awesome! :-) And Mtv had a purpose! This song is classic! The 80's was a Big Country! Yeah! :-)

  • @thecarebearhideaway Well said. This song takes me back.

  • @EricSmiles Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind comment! This song takes me back too as you can see! :-) Good times then! ♥

  • Is this the greatest song of all time? Holy Shit! It's like the perfect mixture of happiness and sadness. I don't even listen to this kind of music (I'm a HIP HOP DJ) but it's the most inspirational, emotional, wellmade, song I've heard in a very long time. The breakdowns are fucking stellar, this shit is BEAST!!!!!!!

  • Song about Australia. wrote it there whilst touring.

  • So what if Adamson wasn't born in Scotland? His parents are Scottish and he moved back up at a young age so he is Scottish as far as I'm concerned. As if anyone can remember their years as a toddler anyway...

  • Awesome!

  • Listen to the interview on BBC yesterday, they are not "Scottish". A great band with a Scottish connection. Great bands are great irrespective of where they come from. Be proud of your origins, but don't get caught up in Alex Salmonds Nationalism. We live in a Big Country.

  • None of them are scottish, all English....

  • cool song

  • guys, you know the black dude is from West London, one from surrey and none of them come from Scotland. They only lived there.... still great band. They interviewed with BBC today. Admitted they dont come from Scotland, lol!! Love this tune....

  • one of the best songs ever and bands ever

  • Rememnber those days in the grammysin mid 80's when i see the band for the first time.

  • I'm American and Jewish, have no Scottish roots, but LOVE THE BAG PIPES! This song rules! It has such a power, such passion, and such a great beat. It is something that always brings me up. A great piece of music.

  • Listening from Fife! Happy Hogmanay to each and all, chin up, rock on.

  • I remember the original video had the band riding 3 wheelers in the countryside and they had like guns or something on them.

  • @n2motocross - YES!!! Can't find it-TRIED! It was like a 007/SOCOM mash-up; Spec. OP's/rescue-recovery mission; if you find it, PLEASE let me know! Thnx in advance!!!

  • This song has a baddass Bass line.

  • That's damn cool!

  • im listening 30,000 feet in the air!

  • @muffinbucketman That's Fucking Cool!

  • @rotsnot Here's another idiot. Why are you worried if this song and/or video montage symbolizes America or not? I'm sure that Big Country (the group) left it open to interpretation. Btw, the US and UK are supposed to be allies, ever since Queen Victoria.

  • great song!!!!!

  • not the best band great tune though

  • This was absolutely awsome live. Really kicked ass, 3000 fans jumping to the beat really added to the atmosphere.

  • Great song!!!!!

  • 40 years old and still young enough to love this song. Bless you mates.

  • Wow takes me back to those good old days..

Tip top from down in Bristol..

    Peace

  • its a sad lost for music we've to artist, billie jo spears and stuart adamson they'll be sadly

  • im waiting for some idiot to post something saying that this symbolises america

  • @rotsnot this song makes me think of America

  • Def unique these...

  • Reminds me of college. Sitting in class bored out of my mind, my attention was drawn to this dude in the hall--lumberjack shirt, dm's & ghetto blaster. (I was thinking Big Country wannabe) All of a sudden I hear those opening guitar chords--he is literally blasting the damn song. I break out into huge smile--boredom relenquished. Professor was so pissed he got up and slammed the door. I was like no! no! no! Everytime I hear those chords I'm back in that damn class! lol.

  • ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♪♫♪♫♪♫♪

  • For my country is going down the drain, for all the taxes we owe, for all the money we spent when we had nothing, for all violence in the world, for all the coruption, for all the lies they swore, for all the times when we thought it was safe to say we were doing okay when infact we were not, for all the times we thought there would be another war, for all the violence and no peace where is the peace i'm sure its somewhere what happen to the world and my country?

  • Hearing this makes me feel old, but damn it's a great song. I mean, guitar bagpipes. "Totally, like, rad."

  • This song is definitely the triumph of love.

  • worse than water boarding!!!!

  • I always thought this was a pretty Canadian kind of a song. After all, Canada is a very big country.

  • As a musician for over 50 f'n years, this band still stays close to me heart....and yeah, when I hear this, I wanna go out and raize hell too

  • trully great band who could play there own fukikn instruments

  • Every time I hear this song it makes me want to go take my truck and raise holy flocking hell everywhere!

  • Such a great song.

It's sad that Stuart ended it all 10 years ago as of Dec 16th. At least he brought joy to us all with his voice.

  • My favorite song of all time!

  • @Mrporkandbeaner

    Mine, too.

  • The effect you hear is made from using an e-bow for guitar, check them out they're cool but slightly limited, it's supposed to mimic violin strings & bowing, etc. but this rocks!

  • @ikeick Tool also uses one.

  • Pure quality!! fantastic band, great tune, great feel.

  • i love how the guitar mimics bagpipes :D

  • what a beautiful song, that sounds as good as when I first heard it!!!The words are amazing!

  • fuck ive not heard this for yrs....still rocks

  • this song reminds me of being young...I can sing it well too..:)

  • Thank you so much for the gorgeous video. My best friend in the whole world is an Aussie, and is going thru a bunch of stuff that I should be there for...but alas, I am in America, and she is in Germany...far, far away from her home, and each of those pictures you chose for your video is just...perfect. That you took the time to create something so beautiful, with no other motive than to share with people you will never meet...I will always be grateful. Namaste

  • I wonder why every time someone posts an awesome song, such as this, someone else feels the need to be negative---let's leave out the hate and the politics (which somehow seems to go hand in hand these days...)

  • cool song

  • 20 people are from Luxembourg and bitter

  • The singer of this group reminds me about Rick Roll :D

No seriously, if he does then thumbs up :)

  • It took me 1 hour to log in here now i dont care, fuck offf googleyoutube juyst fuck offf..

  • I say: "FOUR MORE YEARS MY YELLOW ASS, OBAMA!!!...THERE WILL NOT BE A BIG COUNTRY LEFT WITH YOUR SORRY BLACK ASS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!"

  • @phambo101 why do you have to make it a race thing?.. if you don't like Obama that's fine.. but why does it have to be about him being black?..god it is the year 2011.

  • @datinyone Because dumbass, the reason being is: They flashed a "FOUR MORE YEARS OF OBAMA?" on the top right corner while I was watching this video...I hate Obama and they shouldn't pissed me off like that...Do YOU love me now?!!!

  • @phambo101 once again.. why does it have to be a race thing?.. and no I don't LOVE you now.. I think you're obnoxious actually.

  • @phambo101 Yeah four more years of, "It's Bush's fault" while the country goes to hell in a hand basket, we can NOT afford. Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried, even in America.

  • @vanmoody Why does America owe the biggest Communist country in the world $14 Trillion then? Is it because Capitalism is so superior?

  • @clarkydent China doesn't own all our debt. They only have 1 or 2 trillion. Now that's a lot. I would make the argument that we owe that kind of money because of socialist policies, not because of capitalism. We left capitalism during the time of Woodrow Wilson, and really left it during the FDR years. Hopefully we will wise up and not become Greece.

  • @vanmoody Eh, I'm no expert, but if it is only 1 or 2 trillion why don't we let them have an aircraft carrier and call it even? And I do agree that it is mainly because of socialist policies that we're bankrupt now. I was mainly just goofin' ya. :)

  • @vanmoody and @clarkydent - I was curious about US debt and looked around. The gross US debt is approx $15T of which about $10T is owned by the US Government & public and the rest is owned by other Governments, of which China owns the biggest slice at $1.2T which is larger than American household debt at around $960B.. So that's approx a third of US debt held by the rest of the World. A lot of IOU's.. EU debt is $13.7T of which UK debt is approx $9T.. hope this is informative :-)

  • @reggiep75 I guess countries that go after socialist policies are all in the same boat. At least Germany has balanced their budget. At least I thought I saw where they had. Thanks for the info.

  • Their first hit was "Fields Of Fire (400 Miles)" a Top 10 UK hit. This was their next single; they went on to have 3 more UK Top 10 hits, "Chance", "Wonderland" and "Look Away." When they disbanded in 2000, Adamson became a Country singer/songwriter, but got depressed after his second marriage collapsed. His wife declared him missing in November 2001 and the following month he was found hanged in a hotel room in Honolulu, Hawaii.

  • Love it! Ahh, those were the days....

  • Yayeh! I've had lots of good fun with this song!

  • This was one of the best songs to come out of the 80s, in my opinion.

  • I miss 80's sounds! I love music like this produced by Lilywhite.

  • good music is timeless. you cant judge based on the year it was recorded.

  • I am stuck in the 80's. NOTHING and i mean NOTHING beats 80's alternative. The singers today SUCK! They used to sign people with actual talent, now they sign on anybody!

  • I remember the original report on USAToday of Stuart Adamson's death. The news article said he died in Nashville, TN. The description says "Honolulu, HI" and so doesn't Wikipedia. Either I have a bad memory or that was incorrect reporting.

  • Wow... I hadn't heard this song in about twenty years, and then the other day I heard it in a grocery store and nostalgia'd hard. Quick google search for the snippets of lyrics I could catch, and found this. Made my day. :D

  • @adrianzymish Haha! That's exactly what happened to me. Heard this in Smith's grocery store and looked it up based on the lyrics.

  • @adrianzymish Awesome!!!right???

  • @koky5150 Well said.

  • 0:47 amazing!

  • heard this on the radio the other day. Had to listen to it again. Love it.

  • I actually knew him for a short time while he lived in Nashville. Good guy, great sense of humor & a fantastic story teller. Obviously, he hid his tortures well. I'd moved back to California when I heard he'd died in Hawaii. I knew some things about his personal life & current family situation but never thought it would have turned out that way. RIP, Stuart.

  • This song is underrated. It rocks.

  • Stuart hanged himself in a hotel room in Hololulu, Hawaii. I haven't been into Big Country for long, but, when I found that out, I cried. I'm not sure why....

  • Hey Stuart. Still listening.. You still manage to grab my interest mate.
