1) Go to the manufacturers site and research "Authorised dealers".

2) Pay up! No one is going to give away a sub £40 ... whatever for £8.99, not unless they're crazy.

3) Realise that Sony, Bose, Monster, Sennheiser, B&O probably wouldn't sell their goods via an ebay seller called crazy_jack_1948 !!

4) "Trusted" seller, doesn't mean "Authorised" seller. The two are very different!

Anyone who complains about paying £40 for a pair or earphones and then expecting amazing sound quality is an idiot.

If you want good quality headphones you have to pay about £80+. Look into companies such as Etymotic or go for sennheisers in that price range. They're well worth it.

don't know what you guys are talking about, I just got a pair of CX300's ($15.99 USD, from Amazon) and they're really comfortable, you forget you're wearing them after about 5 mins. I've actually fallen asleep wearing them and my ears weren't sore in the morning. I used to have some Shure E2C's and those were really uncomfortable and awkward to put in, those would make my ears sore after about an hour.

It's also a case of portability, I like to take my headphones everywhere I go and it's just awkward carrying around a giant pair of headphones when buds easily fit in your pocket.

I had a pair of Sennheiser HD595s that had an unfortunate accident off of a changing room shelf... If you know what I mean.

I don't know, my Sennheiser IE8 headphones sound pretty good even compared to my home headphones... It really all depends on how much money you're willing to dish out.

Another important factor is the fact that on the go it's impossible to achieve the sound quality from a real sound card in a computer, especially if you're using something as terrible as an iPod.

Good job with this video! People need to be more aware of the counterfeits of this product on ebay.

And yes, those silver headphones were indeed fake ones. Not because of their color-since they come in silver, black, pink and white- but because of the aforementioned differences in details you highlighted.

Just bought me a pair of white ones on ebay and am eager to find out if they are fake or not. Thanks to your video and further research I will be better able to make this judgment.

I apologize for my harsh reply to your comment, there was no reason for it. You really have to look it up to understand. Some company in creates a headphone and markets it to audio companies (Sennheiser & Creative pick it up). They both give them MINOR changes (hence the differences). Why is the price different? Because Sennheiser has a name to sell. So yes, the EP-630 is the better buy, but it's the same product, and can't really be THAT superior to the CX300.

lol not sure if anyone can answer this question. Got a pair directly from amazon, checked it with all the "fake" characteristics and it had none, they seem to be legit. The box has a batch number and everything, but there is no warranty slip inside. Just on the side of the box where it has a circle that says 2 year warranty. Wasn't sure if a slip or anything should be included. Like I said, they didn't have any fake physical characteristics, matched up with the non-counterfeit ones.

I got a pair of genuine ones last spring and I don't remember seeing a warranty slip in the package.

On this video the key points are that the fakes are symmetrical (equal length leads to both ears) and the real ones are asymmetrical (long lead for the right earphone, meant to pass behind the neck), and the gap between the rubber cushion and the earphone on the fake.

The best indicator of all, though, is sound - fake earbuds sound awful. Your ears will be able to tell the difference easily.

You may actually have been taken twice. If you look at the silver ring below the earbud piece on your "real" cx300 it appears from the video to be evenly divided by a line. Authentic cx300's have that line off center. It's tough to see on your video, but I would check that out. I just got some perfectly packaged cx500's on ebay that are sadly fakes.

when you gon ebay you should look at the description in detail because sometimes it can be a bit dodgey, i normally e-mail a question to the seller, if i am not sure about something, and if they are selling lots at the same date, its normally from japan or something, and you can tell from the repeatitive selling, so soemthing must be dodgey there.

I have those exact earphones, I got them from Amazon for £20, they're so good I wrote a review for them. If they came in that packaging then they're fake, the proper ones come in a plain recycled brown cardboard package. If you stick a PayPal claim in then the odds are that as soon as the seller receives it they will refund you (if they're one of the dodgy sellers from China). They don't like attention being brought to their scams, the items are worthless so they just settle as soon as possible.

Duncan: be careful about returning items to sellers on eBay. You have the problem of proving delivery, you then have the problem of proving it to PayPal. If the seller is selling fake goods they're unlikely to play it by the book. I know it's not a huge amount but there's other ways of settling with the seller. Again, it's not a large amount but if you need help then PM me, I've had (too much!) experience dealing with bad sellers and buyers on eBay.
