  • My company fixes computers, but I sent mine into American Flying (ebay, they advertise "Panasonic EH-55 Repair" ) for like $250 they fix it, and return it with a NEW DVD DRIVE. So, how do I get a good cheep DVD Drive for this unit? Toio bad it is not just a SATA drive.....

  • Well mine finally started doing the same thing, After spending all day looking and reading and getting prices, I was not feeling good about this. Until I found out that the EH69 that I purchashed has the exact same dvd drive. So I decided to swap and see what happened. Well it continued the exact same thing. And the circuit board that controls that part is over $300. I decided to put my eh55 down. It truly is a sad day. BUT on the upside the EH69 is a very good machine to replace it. still sad

  • Try pushing the power button down until the unit resets it's self. Mine did this once I unplugged the unit (nothing) but when I held the power button down it seemed to do something, never did it again. I have learned though some dvd's it doesn't seem to like and one is Pioneer? It's acting like there is a bad spot on the disc it can't read, are you sure the disc is finalized?

  • Got the exact same problem coming out of a DMR-EH75. Ugh

  • @MrShadownking Hi, hope you understand in english. I believe, that you talked about hooking up dvd with pc and want to know, where to take driver for panasonic? Am i correct?

  • I hope someone comes up with a solution! I've used these for years and finally killed one! Bad DVD burner JUST LIKE THIS- hate that sound! Someone with a solution please go to my YouTube page and send me info! Thx!

  • hey I Hve 2 of them and they both do the same thngggggggggg U FINE OUT WHY...I HAVENT

  • Thanks, D1videos, for your video. I have some bad machines and one working one - DMR-EH55 and DMR-ES15, which have the same DVD-RAM drive. I found yesterday that disks inserted into the working one immediately start spinning and continue to do so, but in the bad ones as in your video the spindle motor does not spin correctly. I suspect the motor itself, its driver, or the power supply. I swapped DVD-RAM drives to fix a machine and both drives ended up bad I think - power supply over-voltage?

  • What is SAIT? It is in the caption.

  • @chadergeist What SAIT?

  • @chadergeist In the red caption during the video there is a description written and the word "SAIT" is used. Is that a typo error cause most people say the word "SAID", no offence though.

  • I'll try your solution. I left it unplugged overnight and saw no improvement. My problem is slightly different. Its not making a noise that I can detect. But fails to recognize and format new blank DVDs inserted. Even tried a DVD lens cleaner to no avail. Was working just fine. Inserted a new brand of blank DVD and now it fails to format any. Have not yet tried putting in an existing already formatted DVD to see if it will play them. I will give that a shot and report.

  • @pascal1947 What was my comment that your replying too? I checked here and couldn't find it.

  • @chadergeist It wasn't your comment in particular. I was just trying to post a comment on this Panasonic DVR problem. I have it like everyone else. The same NORead error even with a disk it wrote a few days ago. Even with NO DISK at all. I figure the laser is shot and I'll have to get the DVD drive replaced.

  • Cable company can zap your stuff to prevent copyright also.

  • I know this may sound dumb....

Have you unplugged the unit for let's say a day or so?

I have this same model. It did this same thing and was driving me mad.

I unplugged it for about 1 day out of my being pissed off.....

Plugged it back in before I disconnected it and threw it into the closet.

It worked fine. This was about 2 years ago and it never had this issue again.

Hope yours will be the same issue.

    Brent

  • @BrentAudi I unplugged it for about 1 day, but if You say so, I will leave it without power for longer period. Thank You for suggestion! :)

  • Sony is the best made hands down check out the Sony DVD recorders they just do everything lol

  • I have the same problem, with the same model - but mine is several years old now, and has burned an enormous number of DVDs over those years. If an optical disc cleaner doesn't work, then it usually means the optical disc unit, has burned out. You can try to replace the DVD burner yourself, pay a repair service to do it - or buy a whole new DVR - and transfer your HDD files over as well. If the DVD has burned out, the HDD may not be far behind it.

  • i dont want to see such a foolish video.PANASONIC IS THE BEST.MAYBE ALL OF U HAD BEEN PAIED TO DO THIS.DO U WORK FOR sumsung and lg.BRANDS FROM JAPAN IS THE BEST.

  • @12345678935817 Panasonic was the best for me, but sadly some models is lower quality then other. My old Sony VCR is up and ready for 20 years!

  • @D1videos Hello, I have the same problem. EXACTLY the same problem on my Panasonic DMR-EH55, to be worse, I bought a new HDD and try to put a new firmware on new HDD via SD card slot but I did not make it. I dont have old HDD now and I need copy of HDD with firmware if you can sent me. Thanks.

  • I have the exact same model. One day, I want to record a show but the TV guide doesn't come up when I press 'tv guide' on the remote and when I try to switch a channel, I have to hold the button for a second longer to change by 1 channel. I try a channel re-scan, doesn't work out. I try to re-load in the TV guide settings, and the thing crashes and give me a black screen of death. Now, I did a factory reset on it, and it won't even switch channels but it still plays DVDs just fine. Why is this?

  • @mattsprinter I believe that this is the same firmware problem. Try to download newest firmware from Panasonic home page, burn it to blank CD and then upgrade your player ... 95% chance, that this will solve Your problem. Good luck :)

  • Exact same problem with my Panasonic DMR-ES15,you`ve probably seen my vid upload too.

I feel sorry for you as you obviously forked out more for your machine.

    Fecking disgraceful,Panasonic tut tut.

    Anyone outhere with a remedy?

  • Great video showing EXACTLY what has happened to two of my Panasonic DMR-EZ485V VHS/DVD combo units. Are there any fixes for this? I have searched forums extensively and so far found nothing. How about you?

  • @ralphfas1130 Nothing :(

  • Hello I have the same problems. Now even with the second panasonic dmr eh 56 looks same like 55. After the first 56 has died I bought a new one and 2 month later he has past away with the same drive problem like yours and my first. I don't know why...

  • @MrMegaProvokant

I strongly believe, that this is firmware error. The question is ... how to upgrade firmware without working CD/DVD drive. I think it can be done via SD card slot, BUT i did not find solution YET! ...

  • @D1videos

I think it's a mysterious techical defect. I use the DVD drive really hard... My First DMR 56 has wrote 2000 DVDs! Anyway... I give Panasonic a last chance... Now I've bought a complete new DMR EH 595 EG cause I know that Panasonic DVD Recorders are the best as you can get. But If the new one makes the same problems after a while... it was the last Panasonic Recorder which I have owned. Sony Recorders are a litle bit more complicated but maybe their DVD Drives are better...

  • Did you ever discover what the problem was? My Panosonic DMR-EX87EB does the same thing - gutted!

  • i have the same problem with dmr eh55.

anyway, have you been able to solve the problem?

if yes please tell how you did it.

  • Hi. Not yet, but I am working on it!
