I've also heard it mentioned that Johnny Moynihan is credited as being the first musician to bring a bouzouki to an Irish jam back when these musicians were breaking new ground as long-hairs playing traditional music.
Davy Graham was actually half Scots/Guyanese,raised in London.Andy Irvine was also from London. The link would be Bert Jansch who shared a flat on the next floor to the Young Tradition(an acapella trad group) whom Andy used to know/visit.Davy was a much bigger name at the time and regarded as a pioneer but crossed pathes don't seem too unlikely.
It's interesting that Davy Graham (English) and Andy Irvine (Irish) were both born about the same time, and both discovered Bulgarian music and incorporated it into their own folk music at about the same time, but to my knowledge seem never to have interacted to share their music with one another.
You , guys from Macedonia, what do you think of this way of playing your music ? Is is respectful ? Traditional ? I'm interested into your opinion about this matter.
@edelahaye Тhis piece is Bulgarian - on the other hand Macedonia is Bulgarian too - it was B. Disraelli(the brit premiere) that made sure they'll be two different countries today(it's not too much different than the Irish question). To answer your question - it is very professionally performed - impressive!!Greets from the Balkans)))
the crowd don't know what's hit them, the song isn't mominsko horo i've got it off itunes and there completeley different, could someone send me this version!
amazing stuff.....makes you wonder what the audience thought of it in 1976 though........watch it again and pick out the folded arms and disaproving faces.
Will we ever hear the likes of this type of music again? The revival of brilliant folk music, Irish or otherwise, in the 70's and 80's has left a legacy for future generations to tap into. I have no doubt that in years to come, a new crop of musicians and music lovers will redevelop its popularity. Pop fads come and go but this stuff is eternal! Youtube is doing us all a service by keeping it accessable. Go On Ya Good Thing!!!
I love this kind of playing, I have an old LP somewhere of Spencer Davis(yes the same one) playing with somebody called Jameson and they do a little song called Balkan Blues (I think) which is also very cool!
're trying to do some similar Horo and klezmer, balkan stuff. think we're renaming 'Scaramanic' now...sounds great! 7s and 9s all mixed in together....

Don't know how true that story is though.

It's not 7/8. It's far more complex.

@edelahaye 9/8 + 7/8, well sometimes. It seems that elswere, it's different. I have always hard time to play this tune like Planxty did.

I was listening this horo on their LP at this period of time (I started to play in 1973, and my fist trip to Ireland was in August '76).
Each time, I had goosebumps ... more than 35 years after, it is still so good !
