Dude, nice kill an all, but as another hunter the last thing you do is stand there an watch an animal suffer. I've tracked elk for miles wounded, but when you find em finish em. Don't ever do that to an elk or any animal ever again. That was stupid.
@WhiskeyDistiller ...........like I said I emptied my quiver in him at 10yards...........everyone in the kill zone...He was a pin cushion.....He was just a big ole tough bull......I wasn't gonna walk over there and bash its head in with my bow.
@matuka66 You know you are a low life that I keep hammering the Oregon fish and game to stop all Bow hunting for this kind of unethical hunting !
My Rifle season I am finding dead Elk all over the forest from bow hunters that just shoot these Elk then if it doesn't drop dead in 50 feet they don't even go looking for the Elk.
Their is this idea with bow hunters if it isn't found the Elk just gets well and keeps living, BULL SHIT !
okay i have shot a 7x7 in the lung with a 300 win mag and it didnt go down for 8 hours i walked (jogged) 13 miles trying to track him in the dark...so you hippies...shutup
I know tis was over 4 years ago but DAMN DUDE Its"" All"""" about shot placement.
Why would you let it suffer like that. Your 10 yards away put another arrow in it. put the camera down have a little respect of the animal. Put one through its head at that close. You need to take this video off. No telling how many nature lovin granola eaters will use this one against us.
You don't have to tell me about shot placement. We gave it an autopsy....5 arrows in the heart and lung......I emptied my quiver into that elk....all kill shots.....didn't film until after I was out of arrows. It happens.......still tasted the same.
@breannamoreau Let the ass hole keep the video up, I am a rifle hunter fed up with Bow hunters wounding Elk and deer then they don't even look for the animals or can't find the animal.
I like these video's for ammunition against bow hunters at Oregon fishing and game meetings to set new seasons and regulations and make new laws !
I am a Oregonian living in Romania, in Romania bow hunting is Illegal due to ass holes like this guy, dam good for Romania not one fuck wad bow hunt here!.
bro whoever you are man for the love of Lord and respect for life, PLEASE don't hunt like that. It is your right to hunt but buddy not like this. You gave that "majestic animal" a hell of a death. Maybe you have to stay with a gun or practice more ethical way of Bow hunt.
great footage and elk but he nearly died of old age rather than an arrow. wont give ya too much shit since its your first but a more ethical shot could have killed him quicker but I've been there, done that. not everything is perfect in that thick of stuff. nice bull!
right on man i live in eastern oregon and the hunting is crazy i got into a heard of 200 last november(spike tags over the counter) had about 50 runnin 30 yards from me, about 7 6 or 7 point bulls in it i couldnt shoot, one spike in the whole bunch. Im 20 and have killed a bull every year ive went since i was 14. Starkey unit.
I don't know what you were trying to do. Shoot a bull elk or video tape shooting a bull elk.
Glad the hunt ended well but I don't think video can capture the intimate experience of hunting elk with a bow. I recommend one not try to blend video photography and hunting. Ones memory works far better in recording ones hunts. Use a video and you will loose a lot of the experience you are bound to have.
fantastic hunt! i myself am an oregon bowhunter and at only 15 i'v got 3 seasons under my belt but only one squirrel to prove. but im hopin this late season i will heve better luck!
I see you learned one of the most invaluable lessons ever....trust me....let them die before going after them....I have lost more animals by pushing to quickly after the shot......
if you don't see the animal go DOWN, wait at least at least 12 hours before goign after him.....trust me,,,,,
better to get the rack and risk loosing meat than pushing and getting nothing at all......Great job dude!!!!!!
Wow, looked like you hit him right where you're supposed to, right behind that shoulder. Was he quartering to you? You may have only hit 1 lung which could be why it took him so long to die.
Hey first of all fantastic hunt! But secondly this is why I don't bow hunt... I respect everyone for taking up the challenge of bow hunting but I feel that the animal experience a much swifter death when using rifle. I'm not at all trying to rag on you as hunter, I tell you right now you're a respectable hunter for even getting a bow tag. It is hard for me also being an Oregon hunter as a rifleman to get in front of a bull that nice. And for that i give you a congrats on a great hunt!
"Swoosh, Thwack!" Yup, I'd recognize that sound anywhere!
Great job - I always marvel at you guys that hunt that thick stuff on the west side...I grew up in Vale (eastern Oregon) and hunted eastern Oregon for many years, so that thick stuff looks just so painfully difficult to hunt elk in!
Nice video. I'm from Hawaii and was looking into places to do a diy elk bowhunt/camping trip while visiting my gf in portland. It's nice to see some of the terrain and vegetation that exists. The eoindoyle guy is arrogant and passing a value judgement. I enjoyed the video. Anyoneone who has taken a number of animals knows that things don't always go textbook and those that claim they do more than likely lie about their own misfortunes
eoindoyle you are a moron and you need to learn how to spell. The elk didnt suffer either. Their brains arent large enough to realize if they are suffering or not. plus it is bowhunting the the animal dies from bleeding out.
Eoindoyle...go fuck yourself pussy! Isn't there a cup of warm yogurt for you to gargle?
Matuka66- Very nice hunt, took a little to bleed out, but wow, what a creature!!st hunt, amazing. You know, it's a lot safer consuming game, nowadays, and every time you cook him, I know you'll do it respectfully. Pay no attention to these Peta bitches. God gave us creatures to hunt, to sustain us, take no shame in that. If we all accepted eoindoyle's "guidance" we'd be farming soybeans. Hit me at srt8hemi.
you little ignorant bastard. people don't hunt polar bears or tigers! and most people in oregon that hunt need to hunt for food. the price of meat in the store is just way too high.
eoindoyle....your an idiot, you know nothing about hunting. Go sneak up on your tofu.
I posted this video 8 months ago and I'm still eating that elk regularly. Go ahead and get your meat from the market its your right. Its also my right to hunt for mine.
just a little point to make,we are not the only species to hunt for fun.one example is the house cat, they will stalk and kill rodents and birds, then knock them around torture them and just walk away.just saying people are hunter-gatherers by nature and nothing can change that.
maybe if you spent more time getting a good shot on the animal and less on filming the critter wuold not have to suffer so long.
What up? Walked two miles........hours of a slow, painful death. This reminds me of the hunts hear every year from my cousin.......they stick several elk but seldom ever find the animal. I think you did a very good job staying with the elk......but at the very least, this makes the case that bow hunting is not very efficient (when compared with a rifle)
A great film. Very well made and great photography, but the best aspect in my opinion, is your sense of compassion to the animal (4.46). I think it makes you a better hunter. Congradulations on the elk.
thats was an awesome experience i bet! all i have to say to the people harrassing you is that they need to understand that shit happens and even the best shooters can make a bad shot. At least you had the determination to track him down and kill him......WAY TO GO!
Great video and excellent job waiting on the bull to drop multiple times. Very exciting I have shot 3 different bulls the had broadheads in them 2 had broadheads inside a lung and 1 had a broadhead under the opposite skin. Always wondered if the hunter even looked.
I personally think to many guys shoot elk with too light an arrow at too far a distance and dont get the necessary penetration. I prefer a arrow or a bullet to penetrate both sides. At best an arrow is only a 75% one stop shot on the best of days with the best of angles under the best of conditions on a roosevelt in the rut pushing 700+ pounds in my experience. I have seen over 100 elk taken with bow and I haven't learned anything yet.

I hope that Elk's brother makes it 1-1!
What I know about hunting is enough. Number 1 is the chase! Only then comes the food. Survival is not your driving factor...it a sport.
Go paintballing or something and send a person loose to chase...
PS: I'm not a crazed vegan, i simply disagree with hunting for a sport. ESPECIALLY hunting endangered species like Polar Bears or Tigers.

You people make me sick.
Its cruel..not a sport!
Its not brave!
The animal may die in nature but that is not your call.
Equivalent of attacking a person from behind (dirty tactics)..cowardly!
We are the only scecies whi hunt for "fun"
If the Elk attacked you it would be considered horrific...but it has every right to defend itself.
You are creating dangerous species which will evolve to attack humans!
The remorse you felt when you murdered the innocent Elk...its your conscience!
Use it!
