  • So well done! Absolutely beautiful. It enlivens the words in such a way that I am brought to tears. Glory to God for his love for us.

  • What an amazing blessing - to be able to listen the voices of brothers and sisters from all over the world praising the same God! Thank you for posting this, may God bless you.

  • hey Kalamation, do you want to know how many times, within the last year, that I have listened to that Christmas Chant that you posted? I bet I have listened to it more than anyone else and have sent it to dozens of people. It's made me cry almost every time and brought tears to many others.

  • @toddgodmufk2112 Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • Thank God for our Arabic Christian brethren around the World. May God give them strenght to keep living as martyrs (witnesses) of the Risen Christ.

Note> I still do not approve any icon or image of our Lord Jesus Christ,... how has the church come to approve such things???

  • may the western and eastern church may be one again ..

  • @jaye1227 i think it is one-i follow the patriarch of Rome and believe that he is the heir of Saint Peter, but those who followed the patriarchs of antioch, jerusalem, alexandria, and byzantium were indeed closer to the chrstian heartlands than the roman christians ever were- the Church has been 'divided' in this way since the very first christians. the only heretics are the Reformers, the protestants as they call themselves-they should form part of the church again, of the patriarch of rome

  • What would happen if this were to replace the call to prayer in the tape players of mosques countries that have mosques but the populace does not speak Arabic?

  • @SaudaraLink

What a ridiculous statement. The call to prayer chants "Allahu Akbar" several times and everyone would realize this was not it. But you could trick a non Arabic speaker into thinking this was a recitation of the Koran.

  • @angrywinds I am thinking of a non-Arab-speaking population, but yes, they would probably catch if it were substituted for the call to prayer. If it were put in for one of those chant tapes they play over the mosques at 4 AM on holidays that is something besides the call to prayer.

  • suavel let me answer you qustion you say mohamed nothing wron wright tell me this how come when he was banned from mecka than return with hes cousin imam ali to take over mecka with violecne to letting belive in them with violence is that your peacefull relegion from that day until know you kill people for not beliving in your fatih wake up

  • you are a very nervous person I guess... dont get mad when you hear the truth about yourself....

  • 2- and, people often say Mohammed was bad in his life. they forget the partying, drunken, womanizing fellow that became St. Francis! and what about Rasputin!!! the supreme Rooster among roosters!! with many a happy hen!!

  • rasputin was an evil man, who said that he was holly. you are not a good inteligent person and have no idea about the truth...

  • zviadan............Rasputin evil?? was he a cruel army general? no! was he a common thief in the streets of Moscow? no! was he a lying corrupt industrialist? no! Rasputin was far from being evil! .........oh, and have a nice day! you are a good intelligent person who knows every bit of the truth of Christianity! oh youre sooo smart!! ill send a letter of recomendation to the Patriarch!! bless you oh wise one!!

  • I have never said that I'm so smart and know every bit in Christianity, but I know that you're tryng to teach some lyes to people here, have no right for corrupted prophecy on YouTube. Rasputin was an evil, yes he was wearing a mask and inside he was evil...

  • Prophet muhammad never did anything bad except when frowned and turned away from the old man

and when he swore to stop eating honey to please his wife.

    that is it

  • ya see! a Muslim said he Loves Isa! why do not a, certain element, of Christians see that Mohammed is worth more than ignorant dismissal. im not a Muslim. its just my observation.

  • It's not very accurate. Originally these chants were in Syriac, Greek or other. They have been translated lately to Arabic.

We Maronites lately dropped Syriac and opted Arabic in our liturgy. I remember when I was a kid, the whole liturgy was in Syriac(we didn't understand anything about it).

  • 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Colossians

  • I'm a muslim and i love Isa (Jesus).

  • I pray you can accept the eternal sacrifice of the Son of God on your behalf. Accept Jesus and follow his words in the Holy Bible, his grace is sufficient to save your soul.

  • I do accept Jesus and i do follow his words. Mainly because i worship God and God alone. It doesn't mean i discount Jesus in any way shape or form, he is an inspiration in my every day life. In Islam though i do not even have to pray for you if you are a good Christian Inshallah you go to heaven.

  • You follow the words of Jesus in the bible? In Islam Jesus is just another prophet. Islam teaches the he was neither the only begotten Son of the Father, or that he died on the cross for our sins. Jesus said "No man cometh unto the Father but by me." God took on the flesh of a Man and died for your sins, his blood was spilt for you. Accept him and have eternal life.

  • You cannot love jesus if you dont see him as the son of god.

  • What a horrible thing to say man, of course i love Jesus - he is the son of God just as much as mankind is the Son of God. I love Jesus because he was an inspiration from Allah, you know i am sure how much respect the Quran gives to Jesus, we must love him and make him no distinct from any other messenger, including Mohammed.

  • bull

  • The internet is full of garbage and trash-talk but sometimes it can bring together tolerant brothers and sisters of the three great religions of Abrahamic monotheism, dimming the cancerous self righteous, if for only a moment.

  • Sounds absoloutely beautiful.

  • He is using the Qur'an Mawam for this, for non Arabic spekaing it might seem this is the Qur'an.

  • Was that last church the First Sophia?

  • As a Protestant Christian from the USA, I love these hymns! They are a truly touching way to hear the Word of God! Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for your compliments on our tradition.

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, when the Scriptures are read in the service, they are always chanted in this manner (the musical style may change from land to land). We do this because the Scriptures are so sacred and respected.

  • I would've easily mistaken this to be Quran recitation if I didn't know what the words are. I suppose this is the Arabic chanting of recitating poems and holy scriptures whether the reciter be Muslim, Christian or Jew.

  • You are right, a nonArab speaking person at first glance will think its the Qur'an cuz we are mostly used to listening to it when it comes to Islam.

  • In an Arabic or any other Orthodox language liturgy, when the gospel is read during the liturgical service by either a deacon, priest, or higher, it is always chanted like this. This chanting has been in practice since before Islam came about.

  • ..and one more thing: God bless u all my Christian brothers and sisters, it doesn't matter which denomination we are. we all worship God and recognize the divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ :D

  • Im an Evangelical Christian from LatinAmerica, and i love these chants a lot!! they touch my heart and soul!! Glory be to the Lord!

  • Does anyone know which tone this is chanted in?

  • It's chanted in third tone, I think, though it should be chanted in "kleton", a special tone for apostle & gospel recitation. The singer does also a big declination to chromatic tetrachords. It's not so traditional chented, but is very modest and so beautiful.

    Χριστός Ανέστη!

  • God Bless all Orthodox Christians!

Peace be with you all, and many thanks to the maker of this!:-)

    Мир Божији!

  • WOW i absolutly love this.... i am coptic orthodox and i have never heard the arabic liturgy sung in a byzantine chant... i usually here it in the long extended coptic hymns.. this is amazing.

  • Oh my God, I'm a Western Catholic yet this gives me goosebumps. We should really be proud of the Eastern Churches. Long live the Catholic Church!

However, may I ask if you use Allah as the word for God? Recently in Malaysia I heard they prohibit Catholics from using the word.

Peace be to all our Eastern brothers and sisters. We love you!

  • Yes. Allah is Arabic for God. Please pray. God Bless you and your family.

  • How come Malaysia prohibits it in Catholic publications? So unfair. Arabic Christians were the first people to call God Allah.

I hope they realize that and stop suppressing other religions, and try practicing what they preach. And stop cutting the heads of their daughters!

  • Allah is used as the word for God in Arabic Orthodox faith. Allah is God - just worshipped differently by Christians - Muslims. So is El - etc...depends on language.

  • @leedongwookkr

Before the Advent of Islam in the pre-Arabia era and landscape , Allah was only meant to denote a God apart from all the other Gods ( as Arabs from Saudi Arabia ) were either Pagan or of Jewish Bloodline.

God was ultimately chosen to represent an all powerful being to which many would relate as THE Almighty God ( hebrew for The Most High ).

Allah was not exclusively used by the muslims but are also used by the Arabic speaking Christian Nations of the middle east.

  • @leedongwookkr

Allah was later used predominantly by the Muslims to represent their god - ( THE GOD ) by which the Middle Eastern region also used to represent or worship.

The Middle Eastern Christian Kingdoms ( note Christianity are from the Middle East Regions not Western Rome ) also used - Yaa Rabb ( My LORD ) , Yaa Rabbi , Abba , Abah ( FATHER ), etc.

  • @leedongwookkr

Who cares what Malaysia does. They are not Arabs. They are Malays. If the Malays do something, it doesn't effect the whole world. Why would you care if they prohibit Catholics from using Allah. The Arab Christians and even Jews from Arab countries say Allah. Regardless what Pat Robertson or Malaysia say.

  • @JubanTeyman24 Hi, as a Malaysian residing overseas, I do care, because "Allah" is also the word for God in Malay. Of course, no one gives a damn about what Malaysia does but has it ever occured to you that Malaysian Christians are also undergoing persecution; even if its not as big as what is happening in Egypt? Because of all these rules and prohibitions, we are made to look like a pagan religion, which we are not. Keep praying.

  • @leedongwookkr I'm a Melkite Catholic (born Western Catholic) and I'm from Malaysia. I know the people who are fighting to ensure that we get to use the word Allah. Keep praying for them.

  • God bless all Arabic Christians and may he protect them from the evil ones!

    This chant is beautiful!

  • Thanks GOD. You translate me into English.

  • اجمل التهاني بمناسبة الميلاد و حلول السنة الجديدةso beautifull

  • Is this clergy that chant or a cantor?

  • Cantor. God Bless.

  • Thanks for the reply.

  • I never heard the Gospel in Arabic. Very beautiful.

  • Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

  • Wow. This was greAT!

  • thanks the correct word i ment to use was transliteration of arabic --and i like it it because its really traditional and i love it in arabic and i want to learn how to say it thank you

  • can u make one with the arabic lyrics (not in the script arabic the translated arbic) like es la lay cum --hello in arabic--not the script

  • Can I? Probably. Why? k

  • Interesting, I didn't know Christians in the Middleast recited or sung Biblical verses.

  • Christianity Belongs in arab countries Orthodoxy is very popular in arab countries cause some of the cities used to be GREEK

  • to pizza38921111:

yes, Orthodox christianity belongs in arab countries because they were once part of the byzantine empire- not because they used to be greek (although the language of the byzantine empire was mainly greek, its people were from various nations/ethnic groups, not only greek).

the Orthodox christians in arab nations are the true inheritors of the byzantine empire and continue its traditions to this day.

the majority of arabs in north america have always been christians.

  • Most Arab Orthodoxs spoke Syriac, and used Syriac in their clergy. Greek wasn't used at all, or very little.

  • very good point. many do in fact use Syriac or Aramaic in their liturgy, although those in the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and Jerusalem use primarily arabic and greek in their liturgies, not Syriac or Aramaic as in other churches (i.e.- Syriac Orthodox Church, or Chaldean Catholics)

thank you for pointing that Syriac is still a very useful language among many arabic peoples.

  • That is true, God bless :)

  • @metta108

Orthodoxy originated in the Middle Eastern Kingdoms , after Christ had risen and ascended to Heaven to be by THE GOD ( His Father ). When Christ was alive, Greek was already the Lingua Franca of Jerusalem ( to which Latin was also used by the Roman Governors to govern the nation ) .

After the fall of the Roman Empire , The Byzantium Empire was set up in Turkey to be the 2nd Roman Empire but that too fell.

  • salam !!

i'm a muslim. i heard this good reciting

of your bible, well. we respect to jusus as

    a prophet.

  • Amen please post more from this if you have anymore.

    Great Job.

  • Amen ya Rab...Jesus Christ my saviour

  • WNADERFUL! JESU CHRIST IS PRESENT!

  • WANDERFUL! JESUS CHRIST IS PRESENT!\

  • The Whole Middle East used to be the cradle of Christianity. Until The Mohammedans came and conquered the Christian lands of the middle east. The choice for the Christians was convert pay a tax or die.

  • And in the last 100 years, submit to western domination or leave. A decadent west tries to finish them off.

    kalamation

  • and Christians in the Middleast don't blame "the muslims" for their problems either.

  • Thank you. Well said. They don't go around doing bad things and then start complaining about about the Moslem religion.

  • lol

  • Please be charitable. It is better to say that these chants influenced Islamic prayers, since these Christian Churches predate Islam. This is what the people were before Islam. This is also why there is a recognition of Mary's purity and the virgin birth of her Son in Islam.

    Azar

  • Friend i have a question.

Who started this style of chants? Muslims or Christians?

  • These Eastern Churches began in the first century and have always sung. St. Ephrem composed hymns in the 4th Century. So these hymns are likely related to ancient ones. The style likely seeded the middle east, before Islam came along. So the style likely influenced Islamic chants. At this point one could add that after Islam came, their chants influenced Christian hymns. This is possible. But time moves forward; the past influences the present, as the blues influenced Rock'n'Roll.

  • Absolutely beautiful. God bless you!

  • muslims are copycats, they took our christian byzantine chant, and adapted it to their prayers. Christianity will prevail. Amen.

  • This isn't Muslim! The producer of this video and those singing are Christians.

  • duuuhhhhhhh ...... smarty lol
