Well, to say the least; they never had an American or European release, and it took a while for fanlations to start. Some of them got remakes on the DS, but they don't feel like the good old SFC games. And plus; Final Fantasy always got all the attention.
@Cawcun We're talking about Dragon Quest on Super Famicom, kid. If you said the Dragon Quest games overseas were "underlooked," then that would have made alot more sense.
Yeah, you're right. But even then, the first four Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior in North America for some weird reason) were released in North America, and my brother had a subscription to Nintendo Power (the Nintendo magazine), and there was a teaser for Dragon Quest V, but it never got an SNES release, so it's kinda cheap... And even the original NES/Famicom Dragon Quest games are really underrated, even though they preceeded Final Fantasy...
@Cawcun The Dragon Quest games were renamed "Dragon Warrior" because another game publisher already trademarked the name. And the first four were indeed released in N. America but due to poor sales, the next two games weren't released until the seventh one, which released on the PS1.
Sounds fair enough to me, but why did they release Final Fantasy IV (II in NA because the real two and three never saw the light of day in NA) and VI (once again, III, because they skipped the fifth one)? I mean; it's not like the first Final Fantasy game sold very well...
@Cawcun The first FF game didn't sell very well probably because it was released overseas mainly for exposure. And marketing FF to the west wasn't exactly lucrative, so they Square didn't want to release the next few titles. However, several FFs later, they decided to give it another chance and it quickly caught on and became the multi-million dollar force it is today.
I don't understand how Dragon Quest is bigger than Final Fantasy in Japan...it's so weird, I played 4 of the games and they are "alright" nothing special, there's no usually little to zero character development, the stories are usually not deep at all and many of them are similar to each other and very cliche...the first Dragon Warrior specially was a western RPG (which usually suck) with japanese characters and names.
984 HP? What would happen if more than 3 Life Acorns were used on Hassan? Would it cap at 999 HP, or would the H become a 1? Something like 1003 for HP. I've seen attacks do over 1,000, so why not character HP?
If you want to, I guess. Some of those guys have slightly better equipment than minde do, so no doubt if it's done right it would be finished pretty quick.... though I guess I made up for it with 3 characters using madante at max MP. Maybe you should do Dark Dream instead, though.... If you got that far.
are there boomerangs in this game???

Makes sense, but I was basically referring to the overall audience, not only Japan.
Cawcun 1 year ago
@Cawcun But the overall audience for the SFC were only Japanese. Not a single Dragon Quest game on the SFC was released anywhere else.

Is there a reason you decided not to fight for yourself and let the game make piss-poor choices?
