  • its very nice video is the 1 time i see i liked.very good

  • @94ferraz Thank you.

  • Hi Tom!

I've been practicing with your tutorials for some time now, and as far as I know, these are probably the best I've ever found. But I do have one problem: After some time (+/- 10 minutes) I feel a pain in my arms and hands... I don't know what I do wrong, but it always makes me stop practicing...

    Greets,

    B.

  • @WhiteJumpers I never have experienced any pain playing piano. I have played for hours at a setting. I do know some pianos are much harder to play than others and can require more effort to press down the keys. I once played a very early Yamaha grand piano that was very tiring after a few songs. Good luck and maybe try some other keyboards for comparison. Thanks.

  • Thanks Featureman, as an older beginner, this is just the tutorial I've been looking for.

  • @spadger1944 Thank you. Have fun with the music.

  • 7 idiots dont like music...

  • will it still be the same if the right hand will be playing the notes and the left hand the chords ? i dont have a keyboard or piano so i really cant say :D just askin though . i really REALLY want to play the piano so i want to learn these things . thanks for the video by the way . it really helps !

  • @katherinelauron Thanks. I have never tried it that way but the notes would still blend if the keyboard or piano is in tune. When you are learning try experimenting from time to time. That will develop your style.

  • Thank you, I drive new and re-new on the key-roads, I will subscibe and encore un fois merci; daily relaxation on the switches.....

  • @i1forGodisvisible Thank you.

  • Im inspired, subscribed, thanks for teaching me!

  • @wreese2u Thank you very much. You will learn quickly.

  • @Heahmount Thanks.

  • @Heahmount Thanks. I can use only public domain and original songs. Published songs are not allowed by YouTube.

  • Thanks, now I no longer feel intimidated about learning to play the piano at 55.

  • @cocobrother You are welcome. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much for the tutorials! I am finally learning to play the keyboard i have had for years:)

  • @jaydamariah1996 You are welcome.

  • Nice tutorial, chords used in many songs, I think this chords are used also in the song from 1955 "Earth Angel"

    Thank you

  • @Keysforge Yes. Thank you. The chords were used for Earth Angel. That was a great song and of course it still sounds wonderful.

  • You should do more impressions haha. I'm on lesson 3 right now getting those Chordes into my head. By the way, I'm sure you have, but have you heard Johnny's "hurt"? You would do that song well.

  • @DefMunky92 Thanks. I like the song "Hurt" but I can do only the public domain or originals at YouTube because of partner rules. Someday that might change.

  • You remind me of Johnny Cash, Haha^_^

  • @DefMunky92 Thanks. I do some Johnny Cash impressions in some of my videos, like The Noah Song.

  • Thanks Mr. Willet your tutorials have made me wanna play piano again since I had been stuck for a while not being able to do simple patterns.

  • @mendozaec47 You are quite welcome. Thanks.

  • The best piano tutorial on youtube... Easy to follow, clear instructions... Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge and love of music... God Bless...

  • @ilebron76 Thank you.

  • @Featureman Thank You Mr. Willet, very few people have the passion to take the time out to share their knowledge. Your teaching method is great and so easy to understand. Keep up the good job... I'll keep checking in on the tutorials....

  • thanks mr Tom for helping us all,,be blessed hop one day will play better, and we'll,, grettings from ottawa canada

  • @habtom1976 Thank you.

  • hey! thanks for the tutorials, it helps a lot, although it takes me a lot of time to complete those things you make at the tutorial, it helps me, i hope i can play like you, someday! :) Greetings from the Philippines! :)

  • @igi0917 Thanks. It does take time but you will learn to play better than I do.

  • @Rudeman84 Thank you for the nice comment. Greetings from Tennessee.

  • Thank you SIr, I followed the first two tutorials, I learnt a lot from you. Thanks for teaching all of this for free. Thank you very much! Keep posting your awesome videos. Greetings from India!

  • @sabclear You are very welcome. Thank you for your very kind comment.

  • you have freakishly huge hands. I gotta really stretch to hit the notes

  • @homeworkhaters I do have large hands. I can play a tenth chord which is a big stretch. Most players cannot do that. One of the best piano players I have ever known had small hands. Many ladies with small hands play piano well. You will learn to play well. It is just a matter of time. Thanks.

  • since i follow these wonderful tutorials i kind like when i play ,thanks freind,

    Greetings from Afghanistan

  • @MyRafi123 Thank you. Greetings from Tennessee.

thanks so much for all of your lesson and very easy instructions and your tone of voice is great i told my cousion about you too

  • @girlmusic100 Thank you so much for the nice comment.

  • i think playing piano is easier than guitar when i follow on this instructor.. heheh its so easy to understant.... great!!!!...

  • @loret350Z Thanks. I always found piano to be easier for me than guitar. There are some guitar players who think guitar is easier for them. It is good to be familiar with both if possible.

  • This is the best chord tutorial... I've watched a lot of tutorial but this guy is my favorite =)

  • @08ciana Thank you.

  • Your tutorials are marvelous. I am 65 and just bought a keyboard and am determined to learn and your tutorials have been very helpful. Thanks for the help.

  • @Joefitz2349 Thank you. You will learn. When you make your first few chords you will be ahead of everyone of any age who has not yet tried to learn.

  • thank you so much sir from animatedtheory i really needed to know the notes behind the chords. your tutorial is so simple and easy to learn. it was amazing xperience. thank you once again................

  • @animatedtheory You are very welcome. Thanks for watching.

  • Thank you sir!!!!! now i can impress my mom dad brother and friends haha ^_^

  • Good. Have fun. It is amazing how easy it is to sound like you have been playing for years. Thanks.

  • such a nice man! nice to listen to and gentle.

Clearly he's taught a lot of people in his life and has learned what intimidates, how beginners think and respond as they work on new skills. I knew how to play already (not chords yet) but chose his tutorials over several others I surveyed because he's just so thorough, slow-paced - and kind!

  • Thank you for the kind words.

  • Are you a grand master of the art of keys? step by step and simple basics are they keys to success...

you teach really amazing ways to play pianos... thank you.. this is the third video but im gonna watch the rest

  • Thanks. I am not a Grand Master of anything but it is reasonably easy to play piano with chords. I enjoy showing others how to play the music. Have fun with the piano or keyboard. You will learn quickly.

  • thank you so much for posting... i can now play the keyboard. your tutorial makes a lot of sense compared to when i was trying to learn this in high school. i never learned before because it sounds so complicated. thanks so much for simplifying it for beginners...

  • Great. Thanks and have fun with the music.

  • sir , how am i suppose to play songs?? do i have to see notes from the book ??? i have no idea how to see notes .. do u have any idea?

  • Watch Tutorial #1 and then #2 and so on. I do not teach anything about reading music. You do not need any books. Thanks.

  • sir, do i have to know how to see all the notes from to book in order to ply music ?? and how am i going to learn those ?? i gt no idea how to see notes

  • Can you believe i started lessons with a private instructor that taught me to read music and got me playing simple songs but never got me learning about basic chords?! Thanks Tom :) Very helpful indeed!

  • You are very welcome. There is a lot of fun to be had playing chords while singing. It is also how most hit records are recorded. Thanks.

  • How can i stop myself from pressing 2 keys with 1 finger....I practice for 2 hours today and i cant stop myself from pressing 2 keys with 1 finger

  • Go slowly at first and then faster and faster. It takes time. Your fingers will learn after your mind knows. It is OK to make mistakes at first. Thanks.

  • wonderful. I'm learning thanks to your tutorials.

  • Great. Thanks. Have fun with the music.

  • hey i have joined a class for learning keyboard, but 1 month i had spended and the teacher didnt make understand what r the chords, but now when i have seen ur 3 starting tutorials i m playing with chords with both hands, thx a ton,i m surprised i m playing....thx to u

  • Thanks. I think the chords are the quickest way for learning to play piano. Have lots of fun with the music.

  • Hi Tom, just came accross your videos, and its inspired me to dust off the keyboard. I must say video three is starting to get tricky, remembering the positions. Thanks a bunch. Lee, in uk.

  • Thanks. It just takes some time and practice. Your fingers will learn and surprise you as time goes by. You will find yourself learning while you sleep.

  • ive always wanted to play but didnt know where to begin -now ive just bought a digital piano thanks to your excellent lessons youve inspired me thank very much

  • You are very welcome. There was a famous singer named Sue Thompson who had big hits with Sad Movies Make Me Cry and Norman.

  • i love you . you are grat men just can you repeat please B(or H) chord please I cant understan what i must press. i press: B #D and #F if I right?

  • Thanks. The B Chord is the B and D# and F#, correct. Have fun with the music.

  • that's nice that people take the time to post these tutorials.

  • Thank you.

  • Ive been playing da synth for 3 yrs............but lately, i wanted to learn da chords so dat i cud play while sum1 is singing..........thank u for teaching us......u r an excellent teacher........would u please give me sum hints?????

  • Just practice every chance you get and you will soon develop your own style. It just takes some time to get used to seeing the chords and playing the notes any way you want to. Learn which chords are in each song you want to play and then practice it many different ways. Thanks.

  • You are a wonderful teacher! I've been wanting to learn for years but I just got frustrated, even took lessons a couple different times and I ended up quitting, I have learned more from you in these 3 lessons then I ever learned before, I mean I can actually play something that sounds good now , I thank you so much!

  • You are very welcome. Thanks.

  • Some riffs sounds Egyptian!

  • ur an expert sir,not only this video but all the 8 videos i saw till now,ur a legend in music.

thanks i understood everything uve said.

    god bless u .thanks again

  • Thank you very much.

  • u are god

  • Thanks.

  • i think my fingers are too short !!! my fingers are kind of fat , well i think my fingers are lazy

  • One of the very best piano players I have ever known had short fingers. His name is Harold Meeker. He played with Jack Morgan's band ( Russ Morgan's son). Harold also played piano on Zip a Dee Doo Dah by Bob e soxx and the Blue Jeans. That might be spelled wrong. It might be here at YouTube. Keep trying. You will play.

  • thanks , i mean i know my way around the keyboard i just dont know the chords names , i play by my ear what ever sounds good to me , im not a pro like ur self , but ima keep trying .i make beats for fun usin my computer .but i know its not enough thats why im watchin your videos they very helpful

  • Thanks. I also was amazed at how it easy it is to play the things I wanted to play without the tedious study and exercises. Just enjoy it and have fun and learn something each day that you like.

  • great sir!!! i learn a lot from ur vids

  • Thank you. Once you learn the chord patterns you can use them with any instrument.

  • Thanks a Ton.This Tutorial worked the best so far for me!!

    Amazing.

    Bless you.

  • You are welcome. Bless you too. Have fun with the piano.

  • Thanks, watched the 3 first tutorials and even if I already knew the chords it still helps me. Especially to use them in different ways like you showed in the tutorials. Going to watch the rest of tutorials when I have time.

  • Thank you very much. I am glad you are watching the vids.

  • thankyou featureman, im feelin alot more confident with these tutorials. ive never played an actual song before, and with your tutorials i will be on my way to do so

  • Thanks. You will be successful. Have fun with your music.

  • Thank you so much for your tutorials =D May I ask how long you've been playing? I picked up keyboard about half a year ago (I'm 15) based on some sheet music I was learning to play in chorus and I've been trying to learn since. Hopefully I don't have to be a child prodigy to become a great piano player?

  • I finally figured out what I now know when I was about 20 or 22 or so. You do not have to study all that hard to become what you know you want to be. Just practice the things you want to learn and skip the rest. I do all I want to do on keyboard. I have lots of fun.

  • Another fantastic video :)

GO TO 6:15 ON THIS VIDEO it really made me laugh "C,b,a,g c,b,a,g now."

I don't know why but it was funny :P

  • Thanks. Good thing there is no T note on the piano or it would be T bag.

  • Haha :P Good point :)

  • It probably reminded of that catfood commercial. The cat was meowing this same tune.

  • In the case of the G chord, when you add the upper G how is that called?

  • It is still just a G chord, but in a different register. If you use two G notes it is sometimes called an octave,

  • I've been practicing, but my wrist is stiff from it. I still like it.

  • Great. It takes time but the time spent is worth the fun you will have playing. Thanks.

  • Hey, you are a really great teacher. Thanks and could you do some more Great balls of fire and Monster Mash? Thanks, Roca

  • Hi. Thanks. I won't be using any published songs in the new tutorials. I will show the chords necessary for various songs and how they can be combined to do various hit songs. I will be adding many more tutorials. Thanks.

  • I am learning a lot thank you. I think the B and E chord have to be written with a # not a 'b' as

    E-G#-B

    B-D#-F#

    Am I correct?

  • I have no idea. I just call them by the names that work for me, but thanks for the information.

  • Well traditionally you'd say E-G#-B purely because the triad is built with the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of that scale (E-F#-G#-A-B-C#-D#-E in the case of E major). But in a practical sense, no one really cares as long as you can play.

    Cool tutorials btw. :)

  • Thanks very much.

  • Thanks for all the help, Tom. I have a good old fashioned piano - no keyboard. How can I tell if it's in tune or not without a tuner?

  • The quickest way would be to listen to my video as I play the C note and see if yours is the same. I will try to do a video where for a few seconds I will play a couple of notes for people to use for tuning. If you don't have the tuning wrench, you will be wise to call a professional tuner. Thanks.

  • Thanks Tom!!

    You're a great teacher!!

  • Thanks, Rafael.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH AGAIN!!!

  • You are very welcome.

  • Another one!? You're too nice :D

Also, what brand piano is that? It's very green.

  • i dont think its green... i think that it looks green because of the wall! :S

  • It is just an electronic keyboard controller. That is the green wall behind it. Thanks.
