Most of these films are from a white(non-jewish) male perspective because that's what the people pulling the strings in Hollywood are, so that's what they know, and what they feed to the masses(rather than learn to market other perspectives). Anything else is a threat to the racist status quo.

(3) I digressed a bit but again... films are marketed based on studios perceptions of how they will gross which is driven by who they believe will go see certain films. Comparing Blk pop culture success 2 the movie-going public is a mistake-like suggesting bcuz we now have a Blk Prez racism no longer exists. The film industry is White driven as are most industries. And the film industry follows the money... if it don't make dollars it don't make sense. Again, fix society then Hollywood is fixed.

(2) Compare that 2 the # of White actors who've had sex scenes with Blk actresses (Monsters Ball comes readily 2 mind and who won an Oscar for that?). U think Will Smith is doing that 2 an A-list White actress? Hollywood mirrors the larger constituency so 4 all of our A-list Blk actors success U won't see them Monster Balling White chicks on film. Also, Obama doesn't become President if he's perceived by Whites as anything other than polished & unassuming – someone they don't feel threatened by

Blks (Oprah/Beyonce/Obama etc.) dont dominate pop culture bcuz of Blks rather bcuz of Whites (ie: crossover appeal). Without that, their success is limited. Actually despite their success they're still limited. Here's exhibit A: Will Smith/Sam Jackson/Morgan Freeman - all A-list actors with huge crossover appeal. Ever see Hollywood put any of those actors in a love/sex scene opposite a White actress (Jungle Fever doesn't count, Spike did that one)? Not really since Jim Brown/Raquel Welch. Now...

No Hollywood studio wanted to do anything with "Red tails" because the movie sucks: the characters are flat, it's poorly edited, there's too much CG for a war movie and the dialogues are laughable - a typical George Lucas movie. And now he's trying to make a racial issue out of it.

Not true. Not every film is "A Color Purple" but the method remains the same. There is a formula, and when that formula is followed, money is made. Sure you have to tweak it here and there but that is not a problem either.

The real problem is there still aren't enough Black folk working in Hollywood on any level.

Also formula & methodology mean little when it comes 2 Blk films esp. in relation 2 mainstream films. Box office receipts for Blk films traditionally under-perform in comparison 2 mainstream films & that gap widens depending upon genre. Money is made true... but NOT on par with White films - a very important distinction.

When Holywd says "we don't know how 2 market a film" they're saying we don't know how 2 make a profit from it. This is esp. true of SERIOUS Blk films bcuz Blk audiences don't make up the bulk of movie profits. They'll green-light a Blk comedy b4 a Blk drama cuz Whites luv 2 see us be funeee/sing/dance but have little desire 2 understand the Blk experience & Holywd knows this. Thats not bigotry@ wrk. Its...
