I don't think anybody should mention Sinatra until they become familiar with Sinatra from the 1930s and 1940s and hear what made him Sinatra. If one only knows Sinatra from the 1960s, you're really hearing a totally different voice. A lot of people don't even know it's Sinatra when they hear him from the Dorsey days.
Totally swingin'! This is from The Judy Garland Show (1963) this particular episode starred actress June Allyson. I am curious about something.. why didn't Eydie ever do a guest spot on Judy's show? To see and hear those 2 together would of been something superb and electrifying!
I don't think he received credit for his great talent, not only could he sing he was funny when he was a guest on some of the comedy shows. Miss this kind of entertaiment and talented people like Steve and Eydie his wife.
My first love is 50's Doo Wop, but Steve Lawrence is so great he can't be denied. Seen him in person a number of times and he is unbelievable...I think Sinatra wanted to be Steve Lawrence!
Agreed. I just got thru listening to the various live concert recordings of Frank S singing on Youtube (there are in my count 3 YT concert vids of him singing this song)...and Steve L is soooo amazing and sounds like Frank S. But Steve L is also in a league of his own. He should have been more in the public vernacular like Frank S. SL and Edie G, both God given talent of the highest. Thank you for posting. Love to all.
@lotusbuds2000 if you wanna hear what sinatra really sounds like check out stephen triffitt. best sinatra in the world. he will blow you away. 1 sec ago
@VintageDino45 sinatra sounds nothing like lawrence. steve lawrence was way better than sinatra. but then, so were a lot of other guys. i don't understand why everyone kisses sinatra's butt so much.
@MrJackedwards Because sinatra was an artist and knew how to make songs make sense. This guy like most people in general who sing just simply recite words...but they can't make it a feeling and make you feel what the lyrics are trying to tell you...there is an ENORMOUS difference in the way sinatra sang and the way everyone else sings. Sure mariah carey can do fancy things with notes yet she doesn't know why notes should be emphasized over others and so forth...big difference.
@MrJackedwards re: Sinatra: Hype. Sure, he had a recognizable style that's easy to identify. Also, he fucked his way to Hollywood; apparently his real gift was something else... Everyone from Steve Lawrence to Dean Martin to Perry Como could sing circles around Sinatra, but they didn't make sure the press had a running tally of who they bedded.
True Class from the time, the era of it happening, when it was happening, Steve was right up there, right in the pocket, a real carrier of the torch, the light of real standard singing, minting at that time the premium quality standard for us to look back on for all times. On that note, Bubles our closest to doing his, if only he would do it as classy and live like this all the time,
I alway love to hear Steve and Edyie. So uplifting. this is a good laid back casual version. excellent, Steve. Everyone be sure to listen to 'More" by Steve, and 'If he walked into my life' by Edyie.
Have very fond memories of seeing you both on the Ed Sullivan show as a child.
Very excited about your concert coming up
Nov.7 2009 in Long Island, Steve!
Special Request....Your version of "Too Late Now" which someone posted on Youtube is absolutely Fantastic and I feel the nicest version ever done.....Would you PLEASE perform it at the Nov 7 Long Island concert! I'm sure everyone besides me would be thrilled and honored to have you do it!!
he had the same voice and tone of the ny crooner Frank Sinatra Edie and he pass a long time with the panchos and she record in spanish too romance songs and he always stay with her i can only say wonderful music
Happy Birthday to the best singer in the world! Enjoy your special day with loved ones. Thanks for all of your contributions to the music industry. You're truly amazing and I think the world of you and your beautiful wife, Eydie who also is the best singer in the world.
If you are a devoted fan and just absolutely love Steve and Eydie and their music you must listen to Steve sing the most romantic version of the song The Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me. He is singing the song to Eydie and it is so beautiful. It makes me cry every time I hear it. I would love to know which CD this song is on...and if it is not on one now it needs to go on one. Boy, what I would do if a wonderful, thoughtful man sang me a song like this, I'd snag him up and marry him.
I'm so very glad that you sing this song and sound like Steve Lawrence. You do a very wonderful job of this song. I do not like listening to a certain Canadian artist because he copies Frank. It's wonderful that he grew up listening to the best. I love interpreters of music not immitators. Steve, you just like your fantastic wife Eydie are an interpreter of music. P.S. I heard Buddy Clark on AM 740 yesterday... I can see why he was a big influence on you. Like Frank he was awesome!
You are an awesome singer! I enjoy listening to you sing: "More", "A Room Without Windows", "Tell Her I Said Hello",and "Golden Rainbow". I must be honest and say that I love when you sing with Eydie. You sing so beautifully together, in complete unison... as if one voice. Your voices seem to complete each other." I listened enthusiastically to your music at age 5, (in 1970) and still do in 2008. I've not had a chance to see you and Eydie perform live in concert, but I hope to very soon.
Bravo! I love this version of "I've Got You Under My Skin". I love it as much as Frank's version. I understand why Frank gave you his music just a few years before his passing. I imagine that you felt so honoured.
one cool cat. ck out this guy who has steve lawrence vibe. he sings with a grp in L.A. they are bringing back this genre one song at time.

@MrJackedwards Steve is a great singer, but so was Frank, and Frank had that touch of danger

@pointreyes6 danger, right. if you didn't kiss frank's ass his goons would take you out back and break your nose. that does sound kind of dangerous.
