  • yo are such a fucking retard this has nothing to do with this brain dead generation dickwad

  • When a woman asks her man, "what are you thinking" and he says, "nothing". Tell him, "There's no such thing as nothing." ha ha ha

  • I l<3ve this song!

  • Wow 'iwillneverpostavideo'. Sounds bleak. Do you have any kids? The one thing "we" can do about it is quit being sensationalist, teach the childeren well and stop believing the hype of media saying things are worse than ever. Despair sells drugs, vanity surgery, prestige bullshit and promisless futures. But perhaps you are right in blaming the media. Remember, twas ever thus. Ps- Have you met Bob Dobbs? "Pull the wool over your own eyes!"

  • "maybe to lose or to save your soul, is a choice of how you fill the hole!" I LOVE THAT LINE... GREAT VIDEO, GREAT SONG, GREAT ARTIST! thanks audioslaveLATINO for posting it

  • Prob my most fav Solo song!! Luv it!!! Gets you pumped!!!

  • cornell has skills

  • sweet

  • Shit.... Chris Cornell hasnt sung below an EPIC level even for a SECOND.

This man is GENIUS! his ranges, vocals, lyrics, music are all BEST QUALITY! <3

  • song is amazing stupid people just dont get the lyrics

  • amasing lyrics

  • I like the verse, but the chorus doesnt match at all, and sucks too.

  • Comment removed

  • I have loved Chris Cornell since the beginning. I have alot of respect for his talent, I think he is an amazing artist, but I just cant like this song. And I've tried. Its very disjointed to me. But I will always give Chris Cornell a second chance.

  • @jeremyrussell1987 your the reason justin beiber is famous

  • I know it has nothing to do with the song, but Chris really looks like Ty Pennington in that picture.

  • @violetoctohedron hahaha learn to spell first.

  • i think the tone of voice goes against the tone of the music

  • could somebody tell me about the lyrics ? ^^

i really like this song but i cant get behind the lyrics

  • I kinda view it as a take on the saying, "All evil needs to succeed is for good men to do nothing." Chris seems to be talking about being apathetic towards the world, but then because of that, bad stuff happened, and he realizes he couldn't be apathetic, he had to care. "I tried to be invisible, but it was impossible even for me." "I laughed at love, it was a big mistake. In the absence of I filled it with hate." "I tried to make everything meaningless, but the rain got in and made it a mess."

  • And then there's my favorite line of the song, at the end of the break: "Maybe to lose or to save your soul is a choice of how you fill the hole." You have to take a side. You can't just be apathetic and sit on the sidelines. What's it going to be?

  • ok thanks a lot i think its right what you are saying ;)

  • @chaos92z I interpret the lyrics as him saying that there's no such thing as feeling nothing, "laughed at love, it was a big mistake. In the absence of, I filled it with hate". Whether you're feeling love or hate, you're feeling something, not nothing. That's just how I see it though.

  • @chaos92z i kinda taut it was about suicide, the strongest line for this being "my fingers on the trigger, it'll turn off the world"

  • i think the lyrics on this track are very clever for getting an emotion across simply,

  • why are people comparing cornell and john mayer? so what, they both use the same song title for their own songs. theres many song titles that have been used more than once....

  • Stop before this get ugly, guys! The fact is: You can't compare Mayer and Cornell with each other. They are 2 different artists, both very talented. Chris Cornell writes the most beautiful lyrics, and he has been in 2 of the most popular rock bands in my head. Mayer has a nice technique and he sings spot on. SO SHUT UP YOU TOO, BOTH OF THEM RULE!

  • A lot of dick heads commenting this video

  • true dat!

  • I read over some of the comments on this video.. Jesus, there are some stupid fucking people...

  • @crazy8mopfo welcome to youtube mate the land of the stuiped and inmature , keyboard warriors brave behind there flatscreens and hotpockits XD

  • @crazy8mopfo I just really like the shit out of this comment!

  • @crazy8mopfo I touch myself to stupid comments, this videos comment section has had me busting nut after nut.

  • wtff??? i know im going to get killed for this but chris cornell>>>>>>>>>>john mayer, fuck him, he is just a pretty boy who writes poppy songs and gets called "the new guitar god" mayer can kiss my ass...

  • ok, mayer sings in tune live, obviously better guitarrist and even better "musician"....but his songs suck...sorry....chris cornell might not be the greatest solo singer ever...but whatever, you cant compare cornells soundgarden and audioslave writting with john mayer....music is not about technique, but taste.

  • Ill agree chris cant play guitar anywhere near as good as john, but he can do more with his voice. But really john wont be remembered in 20 years I bet, and look how long chris has been around..... he has stood the test of time and will continue to.

  • john who?

  • Idk I think this is pretty good. Reminds me of some of the Soundgarden stuff

  • chris made enough great music to make me respect him but now he is done.he keeps saying that he loves what he is doing but i dont feel it..he made a choise he choose his family over his love for the music...i think he did it to keep his family off the life he had the past years(this is just a thought)

  • i kinda agree, but i also disagree.the only time he can do music like this is if he isnt alone.hes absolutely amazing acoustically, but when it comes to songs with lots of heavy guitar.he isnt too great

  • @theminutemaids i heavily disagree on that. in songs like kickstand and outshined his vocal range is amazing.

  • he made this when he was 43, but um hes done good considering since 1984 hes been writing original songs all with unbelievable lyrical content and hes still trucking. The pop album, he has good reason for, his cousin owns a club and he wanted some remixs of his old stuff with a heavier beat. So timbaland said just make a whole album. club album lol

  • A perfect song for this generation of little kids... the media's ruining their minds, girls are practical sluts, and the boys want to be gangsters so they can kill people... and there's almost nothing we can do about it.

  • Agree. Society became useless for many and good only for the rich. The planet looks like shit and people only care about themselfs, we only live once they say... well its sad that people worry more about their cats and dogs than their brothers and their land. One they we all will die, cant you accept it and move on? Why try to be everything? Have everything? To die alone? Someone will crush you too, like you did before... i wish i could live 300 years ago. Before industrial revolution...

  • for real thass one thing... the truth is the girls are just making themselves worthless sluts, and the dudes...well most are just lil pussy bitches, cuz put a gun to all their heads and watch them be the lil bitches they are...

  • @iwillneverpostavideo there's no such thing as nothing

  • @iwillneverpostavideo Grandma is that you?

  • @myjizzureye Yes it is! How nice to see you! What's your user name about though I don't get it.

    Lolol.

  • @iwillneverpostavideo Come around my place, I will insure you get it....get it (^.o) MMWWUUAAHHAHAHAHHA

  • so you guys think this song sucks?

please put yourself in his position married 44 years old been through a shit load of bands some good some great some shit you know? so for his position this is fucking phenominal

  • Him being 44 and married has nothing to do with it- it's the fact that he's running the show. I think he does best when collaborating with a band.

Having the power to do whatever you want comes at a cost.

  • yeah comes at a cost, but you are free to do whatever you want.

  • there newest album that came out in 2006 is when Tom Morrello joined their band right?

  • No, Tom Morello was part of Audioslave the whole way through, there were never any postion changes. But this is Cornell solo anyway.

  • weird.. this was suposed to be a reply to

    Y2JMcMillan

  • Oh, it is. My fucking Youtube interface is glitchy as hell.

  • The intro really reminds me of a Velvet Revolver song D=

But I truly love this song, IN ACOUSTIC <3.

  • i was thinking slither when i heard first time too heh

i like this better tho, 1 of chris conells better songs

  • when this album first came out....it was sort of "blah" to me. it just didnt compare to other chris cornell greats. but the album has really grown on me!.

i actually like this song now. =]

  • wow great lyrics.

  • lol

  • 's4099274' makes a valid point. jesus, cornell and stalin...

    there's your crew

  • I like too much this song, even if it looks commercial as some people say it is... I think chris cornell is an amazing artist ....

  • that's right he'd be better with another band.altough I can understand him for not starting another...

  • funny how this sounds like all the metioned above...no matter what he does ! just like dio he has influence all he has been with!!!!

  • uuh he wrote all the music in soundgarden and audioslave although he had help from tom and kim once in a while

  • You might want to check the writing credits for Soundgarden and Audioslave songs.

  • im not a fan of audio slave but i am a fan of cornell im looking forward to buying his album

  • Come on, this guy is just disappointing! Nobody could love what he did with Soundgarden more than me - but this shit is just boring. He's such a great singer - I don't know why he's trying to be so commercial.

  • I personally like this song and thanks for posting the lyrics. I look forward to hearing all that Chris has to offer....I've always been a big fan of his music.

  • You people who think this song sucks are the only ones who suck... cock. Cornell ranks up there with over great people in history like Jesus and Stalin.

  • he sure does you mupet!

  • sucks to be me...

  • OMG! can u please send one with the actual video coz i wanna see HIM JUMPIN ABOUT!

  • Fuck Cornell is the fucking man - get off his back you freaks - haven't heard any of your music? Step down or step up, but leave Cornell out of this. It's between your face and my fist now!

  • I love chris, but this one will be one of the ones I dont like that much. The last Audioslave album totally sucked ass.

  • It took me a while to get into the last album, but... it grew on me. After a few months.

  • Well Im still pissed about the Audioslave break up, but I still have to buy this album lol. I really hope either Audioslave or RATM gets back together I miss them.

  • Rage did for a couple of concerts, but Morello is going onto his own Nightwatchman career, but Brad and Tim are saying they still want to make music. Maybe one group will.

  • It's a big disappointment. This track and the Bond song are the only ones worth listening to. Come on Chris, you're better than that!

  • What do you know you probably heard about 4 of his songs and now you judge him let me see you singing and ... you can't say this track and bond are the only one worth listening

  • I've been a dedicated fan of Cornell since 1988 when he was in Soundgarden. I've seen him progress musically, in both his SG and Audioslave days. This release, albeit average, is not up to par with Cornell's capabilities, in my opinion. Don't tell me I haven't listened to Cornell. Just don't go there. Enough said.

  • ok mate

  • sorry for my misjudgement but you can't say his song suck

  • His voice has gotten better with age like the way a fine scotch gets better. Around 96, he had severely strained his vocal chords. He doesn't do the primal scream he used to do. It would send shivers up your spine and the hair on the back of your neck would stand up. He is the greatest rock vocalist ever.

  • Cool song sounds a little like "You Know My Name" :)

  • Well, I've heard two songs, and they both are good, it's just that I hope there are songs loaded with emotion like Follow My Way on this album. But if most or all songs on the new album are like this, I'll buy it, but Euphoria Morning will always get the better shelf.

  • This is great.... the mature Cornell is just getting better and better..... can't wait for the album

  • DAMN! See his live Seattle performance at MSN In Concert. I am BLOWN AWAY...his voice is as strong, primal, and possessing as it was in Soundgarden!!

  • why does this have more views then the music video its self?

  • good question. :)

  • garbage

  • really boring

  • this song sucks so bad. he needs to get old, and write music like he is. stop trying to be a young "ard rock" musician. you suck, and audioslave sucked. soundgarden ruled.

  • You better re-consider your musical knowledge, by such statements.

  • I cant believe how much this song sucks. Worse then the Burden Brothers "Shine" by far. The chorus is fuckin terrible. Reunite Soundgarden already for christ sakes.

  • Not as good as euphoria stuff, but still good, and good chorus riff

Deep lyrics as well if you take it a certain way

  • awesome!

  • I dont care who says how good he is live and how you cant comment til youve seen him- thats crap!I wouldve seen him during Euphoria era,but ever since I know I'll be disappointed -whether Ive seen him live or not,can hear on recordings his voice is shot to pieces;pensive stuff sounds good but he cant rip it up anymore,he still tries and it sounds weak -chorus is boring & monotonous, just drags and drones, its sad as he had the best voice in rock for years.Never perfect live but thats rock n roll!

  • you my friend are a pompass jerk off. I saw him a few times in the last month and his voice has gotten better and better. I think it is the best ever. he is the best singer in the world. and people have bad days at work baseball players have bad days. it doesnt make them bad. his screams are more powerful then ever and people like you shouldnt be allowed to breed! ignorance is retarded and so are you!!

  • threwnthrew, you're really narrow-minded... these message boards are for giving opinions, and that's what I gave - you were just getting personal... just because you like someone doesn't mean they can never do any wrong - I'm the biggest Soundgarden fan, and loved his voice, just saying it was never as good as it was in those days...

  • i have seen him alot lately and can tell you that his voice is better now. i saw sg 20 times and his voice never sounded as good as it does now. his voice sounds more powerful, his screams are all pretty much on point. with sg his screams got kinda bad at the end. his throat is at its prime!!!

  • let's see...alternative verse,hardcore chorus and vocals

from audioslave. totally wrong. doesn;t feel right...

not the way it should... i wish soundgarden were reunited!!! hmmm

  • yeah, i know what you mean when you say "something's missing". the song gets better the more you listen to it though. i guess the lyrics are kinda shallow, but to see the real music video then go to h t t p : / / spitfire-media. com/ movies/cornell1 .mpg (but without the spaces - youtube won't let me put URLs in comments). The youtube version is much lower in audio quality than the official music video, which does make it a lot better to listen to.

  • I have this weird feeling like somethings wrong with this

  • something's missing.

  • I absolutely adore cornell I really do but this is shite, the chorus is awesome then realy poor verse (for him).

  • Ohw dude^^

    Cornell's a god

    there's no doubt anyway :)

    he sings like a god

    he looks like a god

    he is a god x)

    ..really! :D

  • after last night i gotta say his voice is still as great as it ever was. ripped it up for 2 hours. any doubters need to see this show. xlnt band too! all you naysayers? just go see the show and shut up. :)

  • this is a pretty badass song, for a while I though he was just going to get washed up and the only good song on this CD would be You Know My Name, guess I was wrong, and Im glad I was =)

  • he may be getting older, but he still has it cracking. great music, great voice. RATM was good though, but it got kind of tiring, some of the songs they had, sounded all alike. audioslave was decent. soundgarden was awesome.

  • tough*( ugh, i cant spell)

  • also...most songs suck nowadays, lyrics-wise. Chris might not be using elaborate language, but his lyrics touch on rather touch subject, if you think about it."there s no such thing as nothing" - it s deceivingly simple phrase. think on it.

  • ok, the thing is... yes, the lyrics are very straightforward - how he used to be nihilistic, but changed. He doesnt use the most complicated subtle words, but i think he s being honest about himself, and in the end, thats what matters.

  • its good but like ya say it doesnt compare to his early stuff but nothing ever will becuase he's getting on a bit now.

  • I saw Chris two nights ago and he rocked. For all you who think he is getting on a bit or jaded - get a grip. He's on top of his game - and his voice was rock solid the other night too. Sobreity suits him.

  • crap man

    wth is this..

the vocals doesnt match the freaking riff!!!

    This is a total dissapointment

I want it to be like Loud Love or Outshined man

though the bridge sounds good in this song

    !!!!damn this makes me mad...

chris!!!!DONT TURN TO THE POP SIDE!!!!

i like the acoustic version better~

may the force be with you n have a nice day!!

  • he said in an interview a couple of days ago that he didnt want to sing with the riff like outshined, and he has gone to a more pop side for this song, but songs like safe and sound are very new an innovative, and he is the best he has been live in years, saw him in Chicago, just amazing

  • haha yea i notice, the vocals doesnt mach the riff, it's abit off the scale.

  • I saw an acoustic version of this ... i liked it a lot better. I dont think the lyrics are half bad its just not so catchy rush guitar lick... the acoustic version down plays it and make the song much easier to listen to.

  • Last year Revelations (awesome)

The year before Out of exile (very good)...

This is still good, he rushed cause it's his 20th aniv.

But NEXT time, I'll be more strict..

  • i wish for the best but i guess we're all being very judgemental as he is an incredible singer/songwritter!

  • man he's getting old his vocals arent the same as soundgarden days ... cant u tell in the second last audioslave albums he strains like fuck!! well anywayz i didnt really like this song at first it grew on my .. i think hes done a great job i just think the music is to similair t the james bond thingyy!! which agrivates me .. amyb he's using the same band who did that if so dammit but ohwell

  • These lyrics are lame as hell, what happened?

  • What a f-cking disgrace...I listened to superunknown earlier today and it's hard to believe the same guy wrote those lyrics. He's trying too hard nowadays to say something "profound", but to me he just comes off as the Nick Lachey of rock...

  • Everyone, stfu and appreciate Chris for all the great things he has done.

  • Great Song!

  • radioheed: Piss off.

  • this is so horrible, "there's no such thing as nothing" wow, deep man, DEEP...why would you put this out? need the $ THAT bad? anyone who says they actually like this just has a crush on him.

  • i went to the show in chicago and he opened with this, it was amazing, and also, to schumatrix euphoria morning wasnt n e thing close to pop, probably the furthest thing from it, not all lyrics have to be deep

  • Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Cornell fan, but I think that his career is shifting towards more of a pop style. When I think Chris Cornell I think Soundgarden/Audioslave, not Carry On/Euphoria Morning.

  • how can u consider audioslave the weakest thing he has done, self-titled album sold 4 millions albums, more people know him for audioslave than for his solo career, i like his solo stuff a lot, but audioslave was great, rage against the machine was just as good if not better than audioslave, they were extremely successful, audioslave was not a platform to bring his music back into the spotlight, otherwise he wouldnt of did 3 albums, prob just one, some people just can be retarded

  • He made the biggest mistake of his life by leaving Audioslave. He's going to lose a lot of fans if "Carry On" is entirely like this.

  • you're and idiot, audioslave was terrible. he was just using it as a platform to bring his music back into the spotlight.

  • i dont think hes doing this to gain any fans. its great, but if you don't like it. don't listen. Audioslave was the weakest thing he has ever done, and the best thing rage has ever done

  • This is amazing as well as arms around your love!!! He gettes better and better. Very mature

  • It's a good thing I like almost every kind of music(except country)otherwise I wouldn't like his next CD. I like this pretty good. Sucks 4 all u Metal rockers who's a fan of him

  • I think he should focus more on the lyrics, with arms around your love and this they could be alot better, his voice is still great, but i hope the rest of the cd is a lot better

  • Cool music not awsome but good

  • This song is the shit.

  • Grrreat Song, classic Cornell :)

  • This one is pretty good I guess...

  • This song has hit me with a weird mood - i didnt dig it at first cos it was just so different from what i expected & from what i wanted. vocal production on chorus hit me really differently!

But now its like he has done a hard rock song with some melody in there 2! certainly not his best but its still arduant! reckon it'll grow on me even more!

I thought 'Be Yourself' was yank @ first & now i look back at why i was thinking like that lol

  • not bad. not too bad at all.

  • Awful. Boring, annoying, unoriginal, lame lyrics. THe chorus is awful. He has really really gone down hill. I had high hopes for this record but am really disappointed.

  • well the voice is still cornell so.. :D

  • its good but nuthin special, cornell`s best times are long gone now, this is just 10% of his former potential.

  • and i dunno, this song is way, way sadder than most of his recnet work

  • im shocked at how different this is that anything on euphoria morning. he made a few comments about how 'gospel-ish' his vox were going to get on the new record and i figured it was going to be all 'preaching the end of the world' on carry on. im excited.

  • i didn't like this one at first, but it's grown on me. Chris seems to do that a lot :)

  • There has been a musical transition, mostly that there's alot more energy in his music now. Plus, his voice is always changing. Kind of keeps things fresh.

  • weird

  • I know it's supposed to be a metaphor,

but the part when he says

"then I tried to be invisible, but it was impossible"

    is funny

  • mm.. I think that the other band member are just doing whatever Chris wants... and he needs someone to critizise and give ideas ..

    I didn't really like it. I'm a bit dissapointed.

(Please don't be angry! I'm a big fan)

  • Ok, changed my mind... :)))

Love it in general, except hm... Mabye not the refrain so much. :))

Hell I'm more of a Chris&Soundgarden fan, but still better than Ausiodlave in my opinion. Much better. ;)

Can't wait for the whole album!

  • A return to depression? His ego has blown up a little latley, maybe that will die soon. I love the Soundgarden sadness.

  • "Soundgarden sadness" - yeah I know what you mean by that...I feel like its sort of been lost over the years though - but then again, it has evolved into something new...I think I can respect chris' musical transition.

  • The lyrics are amazing. Maybe this song hasn't grown on me yet as much as all his songs have before. I love the bossa nova feel to this track, but I admit it does sound like he's singing with his mouth closed on the verse. I also think that the sound needs to be mixed more, and the vocals need to be put a little more behind the instruments. Maybe this isn't the album version, or maybe it's just youtube sound quality.

  • no such thing sounds great...alot more like soundgarden/audioslave than anything on euphoria morning which was also brilliant...can't wait for the new album...its released in europe before america isn't it? haha..

  • oh great, it keeps getting pushed back here. originally it was supposed to be this month

  • u know what fuck him he thinks that his voice is a brick of gold and it isnt i loved audioslave but he can rock out anymore he's prone to throw his voiec

  • right...

  • I'm still pissed at the way he left Audioslave. I thought they were a great combination. I still listen to all 3 bands all the time, but I think the ego was inflated from the Casino Royale success. It was huge overseas, but did nothing here. Is he the next David Hasselhoff???

  • I love everything he creates everything he write and sings myself. Now the more hardcore fans I thought the guitar riff reminded me "Ultra mega ok" that's pretty kool :o) I enjoyed his last solo album and looking forward to this one. Oh and something made me laugh with the surgery comment I think he's aging pretty damn well and he doesn't take the look of someone who's had his voice has just gotten older & smoking does that I still think it sounds awesome and I like the rasp to it actually.
