ive only got the 2006 cbr 600rr, this was 2007, how did the 2006 HONDA do if anyone remembers? =D much difference between 06 and 07? i know the look and design got alittle different, in my opinion, 06 looks better =D
They never give the 1098 proper performance credit by unleashing its true 160 hp from 145 hp by putting the open termi's on the bike. Thats the problem with the beast of a twin, it cant get through emissions with its full power. Price is mostly what lets ducati down. I hope they sell the 1098r version at a normal price in a few years. The Cbr has allways been the best all round bike in history.
But really, I don't get how the Honda beats the R1! I mean duh the Yamaha is going to win in the engine department, but I believe the Yam is a bit more comfortable, and the styling just can't be beat. This is the first time i've ever heard anybody say anything other than the hanlding is razor sharp... weird.
sorry it can be beat... triumph daytona 675, that thing is physically attractive lol and the sound is the noise is my happy place (ill prb go deaf there but worth it)
Haha, but the ergonomics are TERRIBLE on the 675. I believe the new 09 model has better ergos but I haven't sat on it yet. Can't beat the sound tho.... gotta love the triple! ; )
oh come on man. give props where props are deserved.
the 1098 does sound like a great bike. but its fucking expensive as hell! these guys sound like they're trying to be a little more realistic in their decision. what is almost always the biggest factor in EVERYTHING? money.
the CBR600RR is quite a bike, honda got it together and built a bike that can really compete. in its first year after the redesign its won almost (if not all) the shootouts its been in.
I have test rode jap bikes too. I had a go on a gsxr750 streetfighter. It was very smooth and the steering was easy for a novice but i found that when pushed the front end it never gave me confidence like my bike. I say to all who think about buying a bike to test ride it and give them as long test as you can and make your own mind up. Dont go on first impressions, spend time to get used to them and adapt to how they ride then make your own mind up as we all feel comfortable on diff-machines.
I know the 1098 with open termis makes a massive difference in performance over its restricting exhaust needed for mot. 9.79 sec @147 mph is what it has managed. Ive only rode a 1098s with open termis so i cant say about the rest but i never had no turning in or handling problems with it. Most of the bikes handling is the rider and his style as opposed to the bikes set up. My 900ss year 1989/90 has a report its very hard work but to me its effortless as I have learnt how it should be ridden.
Oh dear Mr spiderman, do i detect a little ducati brand bias in your comments. I checked out your faves (shock! all ducati) and watched a few tests, fact is the ducati can't get anywhere near the R1 around a track let alone the emerging 2008 crop of superbikes. Only one person full of it around here mate and that's ol spidey. Lay off the absyinth!
they are prolly talking about the "BEST DEAL FOR THE PRICE"
NOT the overal performance.. cuz if that were the case, they could build a bike worth 100k and would blast away the competition, but doesnt mean that everyone can afford the bike..
great review Mike! i had a choice between the new cbr600RR or the yamaha R6S. and being the Yamaha fan i am, i picked the R6S! rode the cbr600RR, great bike, love the sound and the power it produces, but in terms of looks, the R6S wins by default. i just think that honda make cheapy cheapy bikes.

a Yami more comfortable than a Honda..........NEVER!! and obviously a 600 is gonna handle better than a litre bike

Last year's R1 is much more comfortable.
Honestly I've never fit well on Hondas ever...... but that is all subjective to each person....

OMG Ducati are way too expensive to ever be bike of the year just face it.
Bike of the year is as said, not all about performance and laptimes... its about a really good bike overall considdering everything including costs.
