need help on my 6.9 on changing belts, can't find adjustment on v-belts from water pump to crank shaft. one belt travels to alternator that adjusts, other two just make the circle. no power steering, any thoughts???
Mine will do it all the way from 3300 (governed there) all the way down to about 2600rpms. I go down a hill doing about 60-63mph in 4th, and then shift into 3rd, and its all jake brake sound.
IF i go above 2600rpm or so it looses it rumble, just sounds like a reving engine. But this was down shifting to third at around 47mph. (4:10s with 265/75 tires)
I'm curious to see what happens when i reduce the back pressure and add the 7" stack. I think it'll roar louder but my "braking" will be reduced (taking the 2 manifolds into a 4" Y)
i had an 89 with a 351, it had dual 2.5 inch into a muffler, then a single 2.5 inch out. some kid gave me crap it wasnt loud enough so i cut 2 inch hole in each pipe right before the muffler, kinda sounded indian, but it was still not much different then yours, and no backfires. just loud. i liked it
With the dual threes on mine(straight through of course, right off the manifolds) it sounds almost the same as that, just a little deeper and flows awsome.
what kind of exhaust you running? it sounds wicked!

Sounds good, that's one of the IDI's special traits that powerstrokes can't do.

wat exhaust u have on that
FordPwns 3 years ago
at the time it was just 2½ in. piping. Came out about a foot behind the passenger door. No mufflers.
250sxwheeliepop 3 years ago
is that a jake brake or a downshift?? and can you put a jake brake on a silverado or toyota ect. truck????
425motoread425 3 years ago
just me downshifting.
and I doubt it

yota? jake? LOL

i don't think so, exhaust brakes were made just for deisels, i don't think there is a kit for a gas engine
my buddy has one on his samurai, but hes got a 4cyl turbo deisel in it, sounds like this but like a toy

hahahhaahah.

Best bet is to go to thedieselstop DOT com/forums and look under 6.9l diesel forum. those guys know their stuff

250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
how did you get it to do that
willysjeepparidon 4 years ago
straight pipe out behind the passenger door is all. It only does it around 2400rpms.
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
so you just let off the gas and it does it
willysjeepparidon 4 years ago
Yep, just go down a steep grade and let off at about 2500rpms in 3rd gear. Any higher and it just sounds like a revving engine
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
My '94 IDI does that too. It sounds just like a jake brake. Actually it seems to provide reasonable engine braking when it does that.

Yeah without a turbo my diesel doesn't sound any different than a gas job, except at idle. I need duals bad, hell i need stacks lol
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
NO NO NO Do your 5" Heck 5" duals! Diesel = less back pressure the better...
01ltlb7 4 years ago
I understand that but I can only go so far at the moment without it sounding like crap. I dont like it now because it sounds like a gas job lol.
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago

predracer04 4 years ago
I'll try that, thanks for the input. Maybe I'll do 3" duals back to stacks
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
If you do stacks don't go any bigger then 4 or they sound like crap without a turbo.
predracer04 4 years ago
Might want to try some 3" duals instead of one big pipe. Flow better and sounds alot nice.
predracer04 4 years ago
sad part is its not a big pipe, only 2.5". I want to take them into a 5" so its more free flowing but I dont want it to loose its rumble
250sxwheeliepop 4 years ago
wow what a piece!!
damianhope 4 years ago
do you have an exaust brake on this?
j35ter 4 years ago
no I just downshift to third. This week or next I'm going from 2.5" piping to 5" so we'll see what the difference is
