My grandfather had 50 years with CNR and my uncle 42. Both worked in Winnipeg. One in city yards behind the station and the other in Symington. Both were engineers. My grandfather retired in 72. Thanks for a great look into the CNR.
Thank you so much for uploading this. My father's family is from New Carlisle and my Grandfather, two Great Uncles and their fathers before the worked for CN of Quebec Oriental. This is a great shot of the line. I will definatly show this to my grandfather when I travel from PEI to see him in two weeks. THank you.
A view of a day when people still knew the importance of the railway in New Brunswick. Alas, I live near Fredericton and to see a train around here is not possible anymore.
Sure brings back memories, i hired on in Campbellton NB in 1974 as an operator and worked most of these stations in the Matapedia Valley and the Gaspe Coast, and of course (KS), i might be dispatching that part of the railway in a few months as apparently CN bought back the Piece of track.
I agree that were seeing 205 the Halifax-Montreal container train. The photographer turned back at the Sayabec meet. The eb could be 206; next scene is Val Brilliant. My tt from Ap 71 shows #345 ex C'ton at 1600 and into Mont Joli at 1900 with 346 ex. Mo and Tu to leave Mont Joli at 800 to arrive C'ton at 1200. (I'm not sure of the date of the video but I recall that 205 started running through around that time cannot be confirmed by my tt's from the 60's and 70's.) Great memories; thanks.
Very interesting. I live and work for the railway in this area and it's nice to see images of the past. Any idea of the train numbers?
The west bound appears to be an express train(205?) The passenger with the FPA4 could be the Scotian. The Eastbound trip with 3205 appears to be an express train also. Looks to be baggage cars in the train (206?) if this train was holding the main in C'ton it must of been important. The passenger train at the station is probably the one they met before.
Wow! This was shit near my brithplace. I know very well that part of trackage. And it was shot 3 years before my birthdate. Awesome. Tide Head tunnel, Matapedia Bridge, Matapedia Station, Mont-Joli Station, The meet with the Ocean (I presume), hauled by FPA(?), then back to Campbellton... Wow!

Are any of these units still in operation? I doubt it. That would be 40 years ago.

My favorite railway in the best location. Thanks so much for sharing. I just wish we could do that ride from Montreal to Campbellton in the daylight.
