I was a small child at the time, and I never forgot how glamourous it looked to me. The dancers, gold & white platforms, and the costumes... always made it a fun show to watch every weekend. It's STILL exciting to watch the opening credits. OMG the explosions & the sound effects! A new Solid Gold would be amazing to see! ^_^
@lbCharmed1 Thanks, and also, after the success of Solid Gold, Paramount Television gave us Entertainment Tonight and Mary Hart, John Tesh and Leeza Gibbons will ALWAYS be Entertainment Tonight
sadly Solid Gold has not been released in any form on video or dvd right??? i suspect it's that darn BIG music rights monster that stops any show that featured ANY type music from ever being released on video or dvd. Thank god for You Tube i will forever be 18...oh the good ol days
I was 15 years old when Solid Gold came on the air. It was shown each Saturday afternoon in the Miami, Florida area. My brother, sisters, and I loved everything about it! Those were good times for us all. Thanks for the memories.
Loved and enjoyed listening to Dionne singing this theme's show as well as the other one: 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous'. Incredible voice and memorable. It stands out!!
I was 11 when Solid Gold was shown here in Miami, Florida on WCIX Channel 6 Saturdays at 7:00 PM. after Dance Fever and at again at 11:30PM. Then the show was shifted to 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Those were the days of great TV!!!
Actually for the era (around 1980), both the graphics and the opening theme song were ultra modern and state-of-the-art. By today's standards, it sounds a bit dated. I loved this show, it was on Saturday evenings in Connecticut, although I was only 4 in 1980 so I'm not sure about times, I just remember wanting those white platforms with the gold rings around it so I could dance.
Every Sunday nite at 7pm...on Channel 29 in Philadelphia.....was on the floor in front of the boob tube watching "SOLID GOLD".....miss those days...this brings me back...thnx..
Did Robert W. Morgan always do a ticket plug on the end credits? I don't ever remember hearing him do this when the show was originally shown in syndication.
He did here in Southern California. I am not sure but I think other markets usually overdubbed his ticket notice with some station identification or what was up next on that channel.
Thanks for the comment! I was twelve when the show started and I can't believe how much I still enjoy watching all great stuff people post from those years!! One of the few things that puts a genuine smile on my face...
Finally, someone has put together the opening and closing segments of the first season! It's a great editing job. I watched the show every Saturday night since 1980, when I was 20 years old. The original closing segment still gives me goosebumps! The powers that be at Paramount are foolish for not releasing the series on dvd and/or bringing the show back. I know that there must be thousands of people that would buy the dvd, and who knows how many people would watch the " New Solid Gold!"
Thanks for your kind words. The editing isn't the greatest, but this is one of my 1st attempts. Did you notice the "costume change" in the closing? Both endings had "garbled" parts in them so I put in a little 3D transition and "voila!" new outfits instantly!! The tough part was making sure the music didn't give away the cut and paste job!! Thanks again!
The 1984 opening stunk
And this one stunks more!
