I disagree. Even if he did nothing, it would have been better. Getting jail time (two years was it?) for a couple seconds worth of shoe-throwing sounds like a really bad deal. In those two years, he could be upgrading himself and positioning himself to be a useful contributor to the rebuilding of Iraq. Instead he decided to waste two years of his life on a person you accurately term an a-hole. Worse yet, the a-hole won't change his mind, nor would it have mattered. To me, that's a waste of time.
