  • Are you sure you installed the followers correctly? I've only seen followers tip like that when they were not seated correctly on the spring. Anytime I've tried to install the follower while pushing the spring down at the same time I've ended up with a tippy follower. When I pin the spring (compressed) with a screwdriver, insert the follower, and pull out the screwdriver then it seats correctly.

  • @KipJordy1 Yes I am sure. If you are putting a follwer in for a seven round mag they usually have longer tails on them and you almost always have to pin the sping to even get them in. But most followers for a 8 round mag are short enough that they are no problem getting in and out and I have never had any trouble with the springs aligning.

  • some one told me that its not good to keep a mag loaded all the way. They said it is not goog for the mag,is this true?Great vid by the way

  • @bama4720 It really depends on the magazine... There was a movment I want to say back in the late 90's among 1911's almost trying to make magazine springs stiffer because they had that same fear of loss of spring tension if leaving a magazine loaded. This actually opened up more problems because the springs were in many cases too stiff. In fact wilson combat mags now have a lighter magazine spring where as the ones they were making 10 years ago had very strong springs.

  • @Dietzeeeee thanks!!

  • @bama4720 If a magazine spring is too stiff when fully loaded the slide will have trouble stripping the first round off of a full magazine. so in some cases it is better to leave these mags fully loaded for a long time. A magazine should be able to be left loaded for a long time and still be reliable. If you magazine has a weak spring you can usually buy replacement or better after market magazines springs. I usually get mine from wolff gunsprings.

  • @bama4720 depends on if you have a good quality spring... If you keep a magazine loaded for a long time and it has a lower quality spring in it then the spring will wear out, but if you have a good quality spring they spring will outlive you.

  • I recently got a Auto ordnance 1911 (kahr) and I had a factory mag and a C-products (cheapo) 8 round mag at the range. had 4 jams, 1 was a stovepipe (not a mag problem) the rest were mag related as it happened on the last round, also those mags were both a bitch to load the last round in the mag.

so what mags would you recommend for a AO 1911?

  • @Alexn1067 Stove pipes I usually a problem due to lack of extractor claw tesion. I tuned the extractor claw and got a new slide release for my brothers auto ordiance and it worked great with kimber mags.... you can check the video out its the m1911 tribute video. If you run into more problems private message me and If I get a chance in my crazy busy life I will try to trouble shoot your jams for you.

  • @Dietzeeeee I appreciate it man. Thank you. At this point with only 200 rounds through it, its hard to tell. The extractor seems to be solid. After several hundred more shots I will have more of an idea. Who knows though, after upgrading the mags i may have a solid running sidearm.

I have a Russian SKS and that thing runs like a champ, no jams, until I started using aftermarket tapco detachable mags.. long story short, turned a reliable rifle into a jam-o-matic.

  • @Alexn1067 Check out my springfield 1911 review... Its one of my very early videos and really really short but I do show you an easy way to check extractor claw tesion on a 1911 you should check it out... Yes as for the SKS after market mags have generally sucked although I have heard mixed resaults reguarding the tapco mags you can't go wrong sticking with the 10 round fixed magazine.

  • Good review. I don't know why but you sound alot like Christian Slater in this video. Maybe it's just me.

  • @traingp7 LOL you and many others have said I sound like Christain Slater and in another video Jack Black... LOL glad you liked the video

  • IMO you can NOT go wrong with either CMC power mags or Wilson 47's. I compete and use the CMC's in training and competition, and they have been flawless for thousands and thousands of rounds.

  • colt vs springfeild.

  • just got a 1911 yesterday...love it

  • You said everything anyone needed to know when you said Springfield Armory is awesome. I love Colt's but Springfield makes the best 1911s now.

  • @Caterpillarjon Had I been alive 30 years ago I would have said colt makes the best 1911's.... but now springfield really takes the gold in my opinion. Though if you can get your hands on a colt series 70 1911 I would say GO FOR IT !

  • Just got a Kimber 8 round mag. I have the same Springfield. If there are 8 rounds in the mag, it wont lock in and won't push up all the way. It works with 7 rounds. Any suggestions?

  • @guitarbum722 I took the bottum half coil and bent it down... to give it more tension.. I think I address this in part 2 but I forget... that should give it enough tension.

  • I have the Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded and the magazine it came with feeds hollowpoints shitty. I'm gonna go get some Wilson Combat mags for it.

  • @hogger129 what type of hollowpoints where you feeding ? I have used 230 grain Hornady XTP rounds with no problems through the kimber 8 round mags but I have not tried them in the springfield 7 round mag my springfield came with.

  • @Dietzeeeee - I was using Speer Gold Dot 185gr JHP. I tried using the Remington 230gr JHP and they seem to fit better. The bullet isn't chopped off as much as the Speer is. They seem to feed better. I also got two Kimber magazines which have the supported follower and it seems to help.

  • @hogger129 yeah 230 grian hollow points seem to feed better than the lighter weight ones. At least in my experaince.

  • Any suggestion on feeding hollowpoints in the springfield gi?

  • @guitarbum722 I used kimber 8 round magazines and I used handloaded 230 grian Hornady jacketed hollow points XTP max loads case over all length 1.230 inches. They work really well. Havent really shot any other hollow points through my springfield.

  • @Dietzeeeee thanks dude.

  • Dietzeeeee- check out act-mag if you haven't.. Very similar to the new mec gar but they have a metal follower.. love it.

  • the two 1911 on the right looks great

especially the SA 1911 looks hmph!!

  • @IhavNoNem the bottum one is an auto ordinace. Had to do some work on it but you can see it rock and roll in my m1911 tribute video. It is now running 100%

  • So the springfield can take an 8 rnd?

  • @RidX4Ricers Yes the springfield is not very picky at all when it comes to magazines including most 8 round magazines.

  • How do you replace the magazine follower on a welded steel plate bottom magazine?

  • @5687678 depends on the follower most 8 round followers you can push the back down lift up on the front and out it comes.. with a 7 round follower you will need to push the follower down in the magazine and put something through the witness holes to hold the spring back and then the follower should come out.

  • do they affect accuracy on the colt models or the springfield models?

  • @grayman246 magazines really don't affect accuracy its reliability thats key. All your accuracy measure are going to be in the ammo your using. Lock up between barrel slide and frame. Plus your trigger pull.

  • wc is the best i have 2 of the 8rd mags and they have the best spring and feel the best when ur feeding a rd pretty costly but well worth it work great in my kimber tactical pro

  • @jtmoney606 Are they the first generation mags like the ones on my video or their new ones ??? just curious

  • all 1911's are picky I normally have at least 10 mags that function flawlessly with each semi I have

  • Anyway, totally awesome 1911s you have!!!!

  • @miiigoreng Thanks !

  • I have been wondering if all 1911 magazines can fit into the gun.

i though a gun only accepts magazines made by it's manufacturer for the specific model.

now I'm rather confused as in how u guys made different magazines fit in.

  • @miiigoreng many companies make 1911 magazines... Some of better quality then others and they are interchangable.. Some work better in some guns some guns are picky about what mags they like and some mags just suck... There are many options when it comes to 1911 magazines.

  • Nice vid. I just bought an ed brown, my first 1911. I agree with you on the "break in" theory.

  • it all has to do with the spring taking a set. I think for awhile many of the newer 1911 mags had to stiff of a magazine spring, but now I think they are making betters. Like the new wilson combat mags

  • Thanks for the info, I have a 20 round magazine (none Colt of course) that doe´s just that!

  • Glad enjoyed it.

  • how much was the colt 1991?

  • We got the 1991a1 series 80 about 10 years ago it was around 650-700 now I think they are around 800 It also depends where you get one, but I would stick with the 1911 series 70 if you can find one.

  • The Wilson Mags are the best in the world.

  • There new magazine looks very promising. I hope I can get a hold of one so I can give some feed back but from the product video it seems that they have done everything right with this new design.

  • Springfield 1911 A1

    CCI Ammo

    Factory Mags

  • hmmm I am wondering if you have too much extractor claw tension... also I am not a big fan of CCI blazzer ammo ( aluminum cased ) Their brass ammo is fine and I love their primmers.

I use kimber 8 round mags in mine and they work great... I never had a problem with the 7 round factory mag.

  • I do have the brass casings on my ammo, I will have to try the Kimber mag. They have one at my local gun shop for 25 or 35 i forget.

I am also thinking of polishing my feed ramp.

Might it be a problem that I have only shot about 100 rounds with that gun?

  • No it shouldn't be. check your extractor tension. a live round should take a slight dip but not fall through the handle when you slowly extract it from the chamber with no magazine in the gun. If the round is stiff and does dip down a little then your extractor claw tension is to much.

Take this for what its worth but "break in periods are bullshit"

  • If a gun needs to be "brooken in" then something on it is not fitted right or needed to be polished from the get go. I don't buy that crap about a gun needing brooken in. You never hear about a SIG needing broken in or a Glock needing broken in.

So yeah will find out whats hanging up on your springfield and get it running 100%

  • Damn I wish I had a non-jamming Springfield, the newest way it is jamming is by jamming the bullet into the loading ramp and stopping. I have never shot my gun and not have it jam at some point of the day. I am going to order a new magazine.

Would you get a Sig Sauer 8 Round Stainless Steel Mag or a Kimber 7 Round Stainless Steel Mag?

  • Kimber mags I know to be good. Sig mags are good so Ive heard. What type of 1911 do you have and what type of ammo and mags are you using?

  • Perfect. just what i was looking for. i thought i'd never find a video like this one. awesome man thanks! do you have review video on each gun alone?

  • Not yet but a tribute 1911 video is coming out soon. a trouble shooting review series will take a lot of time to make and I will probably not get it out till next summer. I am just swamped with a job and school.

  • would love to see a review on that Auto Ordinance blued 1911 featured in this video like the review you gave one your Springfield 1911.

  • I am thinking about re doing the 1911 review. I probably will review the auto ordanance when i get a chance. My brother got it used so unfortunately I can't comment on its condition out of the box.

  • awesome

  • thanks. Just trying to spread the knowledge.

  • damn dude you got some nice 1911's! One of my favorite guns aside from Beretta 92FS and Glocks. =D

  • Glad you liked the video. I might be doing a review on the Beretta 92FS but not for awhile. As for glocks, I have shot them before. The are alright. I wont deny that they are insainly reliable, but I am just not a big fan of the trigger pull or the fact that they have no manuel safety and that there is no external hammer.
