  • At the beginning of World war 2 ,the Canadians and Britains fought the Germans for 3 years on the ground against the Nazis before the U.S. ,,almost won the ground battle just before the US finished it off

  • Halifax Pride.

  • What a country the Maritimes + New England would make...

  • @BrandCAG New England had ceded itself to British rule in the war of 1812. The British were a bit too generous with the peace terms. New Enlanders, I believe, had even sworn allegiance to the King! Nova Scotia and New England...almost a New Britain.

  • @BrandCAG why does no one think of these things...

  • JFK, said it in 1962: Geography has made us neighbours, History has made us friends,. Necessity has made us partners. I think that sums it all up. What do you think my felllow YouTube Friends?

  • @robtuohy1 JFK was a commie-loving fool. He accomplished nothing except being shot, so he's remembered as some kind of martyr. He's no one to talk about being 'friends' with Canada. He basically bullied our shy government. Canada and the US are today trading partners and most of the time military allies, but I don't know about 'friends'.

  • USA and Canada are brother's. We fight, we blame each other, we both get jealous, and we want to be better then each other. But no matter what we all get along and there is always that one point where you want to kill each other. Canada and the United States will always be with each other. Patriotic feeling's towards one country is normal but know that Canada/United States got your back.

  • NYcgrguy, Paula102502, people like you are what make our nations great.

  • dear nova scotia

you are the best freackin city in the world!!!!

    love your bff angel

  • @SuperAngelstewart it's actually a province dear... :D

  • @SuperAngelstewart Uhmm, well,no me darlin',Nova Scotia is a province not a city so that tells me how much you know about Canada. It's a sin for you.

  • Why are you guys talking about racism and communism in the comment section on a video of a song about a sailor expressing sadness at leaving the greatest city on earth?

  • First verse: oh birds. that's nice

Second verse: oh home thats nice.

Third verse: oh ...wait a war?

    Fourth verse: *sniff sniff* they're dead D;

I never knew this song was a sad one until today........

  • I sang this with michael mitchell in front of my entire school in 2006

  • all 5 of the people who dissliked this are duchbags

  • I was born a Nova Scotian, and I will die a Nova Scotian, with geat Canadian pride.

  • This song always makes me kinda sad. I was born in Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley. I have been living and working in Alberta for almost 7 years now and I want to move back home so much. Too bad there is nothing much in the way of work where I am from :(

  • Go canada!!

  • this is such fine music . i actually make brutal metal music with the meaning of peace =D . but now i am 31 and start to change , huh ? thx for this opportunity of healing

  • people lets not loving our america so much that we get smothered out of our Canadian identity.

yes they're great and all, but we are no less greater.

And while we're at it, let us not forget we are the largest western country on earth and second only to russia in the globe.

Long live the True North, Strong and Free.

  • its cool cuz its about my province.

  • No better ally than Canada? I thought Britain was your best ally? Now I feel sad...

  • Nova Scotia, I love my northern neighbors. Your mountains ARE dark and dreary.

  • I like Canada if the USA ever fell apart id consider it a honor if Canada let Michigan join them.

    Red Wings ftw.

  • @mokeymina2 I think your parents need to check your internet history and send you back to school.

  • why the heck isnt there a proper version of this song on youtube? this is a MOURNFULL SONG PEOPLE NOT SLOW-ROCK

  • @xAirFirex Check out "Nova Scotia Farewell" by Rising Gael. It is more like it should be.

  • @DRZrider99 no, its worse. the messed with the tempo, melody rythum instrements and overall feel. the only thing tieing it to the song is the lyrics, and the messed with them too. one word: Awefull

  • Great tune ,eh??

  • When I was in Ottawa, I watched the Scottish Regiment march while playing this. I never could have guessed it was so big of a song as to be played by those in the Canadian Armed Forces XP

  • Love the Irish Rovers for performing and publicizing this song for a wider audience.... Thank you.

Er - is it OK to say that I wish they had gotten the friggin' words right? You know, drear-ee vs drear-eye? And more? I hate to complain, but I guess people are v protective of the songs they grew up with.

Maybe I'm being too anal, but picture this:

"Home, home on the range... where the deer and the canteloupe play..."

You'd have the people of Kansas pretty pissed off.

  • @shadowhfx haha when i first heard it i was a lil dissapointed bout the drear"eye" not being in it either. still a great tune done by a great band tho eh

  • @mokeymina2

    Troll nuff said

  • godda love bein a cape bretoner!

  • @mokeymina2 America is far bigger joke than the rest of the world bush gave comedy central enough material for 150 more years... and America is the real anal parasite we should flush out as you are to our south and thus our poop is on your head stfu and kindly go fuck yourself from canada

  • America has no better ally than Canada; the true mettle was shown after 9/11 when thousands of Americans were 'stranded' in Canada and the gracious Canadians opened their homes to them. And the RCAF pilots who in a show of true brotherhood among airmen refueled our jets and even flew air cover for Detriot, Seattle , and Chicago so that out pilots could get some much needed rest. Thank you Canada, valiant allies...stalwart friends!

  • @NYcgrguy Our shores are always open to you, my friend. The pleasure is ours.

  • @NYcgrguy I respect Canada despite the jokes I make about some of their wrestlers like Chris Jericho and Trish Stratus but seriously the Bin Laden family had no trouble flying after 911-hey, helps to be friends of George Bush who was the 2nd most powerful person in the US govt. at the time.

  • @RPenta You may require some therapy

  • @NYcgrguy When we suffered through the tragedy of "The Halifax Explosion", it was our friends in New England who provided much needed support and resources. We continue to give thanks and pay respect by sending a Christmas tree to Boston every year as a symbolic gesture that we will never forget. I have lived in the US as well. We are much more similar than different. My door is always open and I will always lend a hand to my American brothers and sisters.

  • @Paula102502 thanks for your nice words being an american with Canadian parents i obviously have a connection with Canada. we visited Haifax a few weeks ago and made sure our kids understood the bond from the explosion

  • @Paula102502

Here in MA, we pay respects to our ancestors who helped you guys in NS out during the 1917 Explosion. NS and Halifax hold a very special place in my heart because of what our guys and gals in MA did to help Halifax out.

MA and NS are very similar despite what many people say. Cuisine, culture,..... hell, a lot of ppl from NS are Sox, Celts, B's and Pats fans as well.

  • @jetblach brutal that people in Canada are B's fans. Absolute embarassment to Canadians. Celtics are legit and so are the Pats and the Sox, but the Boston Bruins can suck my balls.

  • @NYcgrguy too bad, if WW3 starts, the US will be all over Canada stealing ther goods and men.

  • @hitachi088 amp up your meds bro...and stop playing Xbox Call of Duty Black Ops.

  • @NYcgrguy am just saying the truth, if you are too stupid too realize what's happening out there, just kill yourself.

  • @hitachi088 I checked your profile - stupid child did you ever serve one day in the military you asshole. You are drinking Barrack Insane Obama's kool aid and believing the lies of the left. Breath of knowledge is wasted on you. You're pathetic!

  • @NYcgrguy fist: your completely uttlely wrong, i dont live in the US and i dont fucking care about your butt fucking troops. second: i checked your profile and you look like a poor retarded communist, you're pathetic!

  • @hitachi088 you got that rightsome people post only to be assholes, nycgrguy is one of them .

  • @hitachi088 1)i'm against insults

2)communist isn't an insult, yet you use it as one. wich is an indication of your own intelligence.(and a negative one if you didn't understand that yet)

3)how on earth could you tell if he's poor?

4)he can make comprehendable comments, so it's clear he isn't a retard.

    5) pathetic? seems more about you than him since your comment is filled with rage and insults, without a real message

  • @Rhonion he sent me rage, hate and racist private message. you dont see the whole picture here kid. mind your own game.

  • @hitachi088 if he would have sent it you in private, it would be logical to keep it private. why is it you wanted to make this matter public?

  • hey nycrguy, ifyou would kill yourself we wouldnt have to read yourpre adolescent babble .grow up or stop posting ,you pathetic little boy(or girl,or something in between)

  • Respond to this video... WISH NYCGRGUY WOULD GO PUT HIS POST WHERE THEY BELONG,ON BATHROOM WALLS AMD TOILET DEATS

  • @NYcgrguy From Halifax with love my friend. Sometimes its the people that define a country and not the government = )

  • @NYcgrguy From NYC too(Queens) and rememeber going down to the WTC andn looking at the wall of letters. After letters from around the states, Canada was next. That really touched me, I have to say.

I can't agree more with you about what Canadians did when the closed the airspace and opened their homes. we may disagree a lot, but it's nice to know when the help is really needed, it's there.

  • @NYcgrguy better words never spoken, if only some people with american supperiority complexes could realise this.

  • @NYcgrguy You comment brought tears to my eyes. I am a soldier in the Canadian army and am so sick of hearing all the shit Americans say about us. I personally took in a couple to my home on that fateful day, and am extremely thankful to hear your words. Thank you so much.

  • @Meredith1301 Thanks for taking in that couple and thank you for being our truest friend. USA and Canada share on inextricable tie..we both love freedom and will stand up to defend it! God bless Canada and the USA!

  • @NYcgrguy Yet we had secret plans to invade them "just in case a war broke out" back in the 1930s. War Plan Red. Go check it out, it's crazy stuff.

  • @NYcgrguy

thank you for that wonderful compliment on behalf of all canadians!

  • @mokeymina2

What the fuck are you saying? Your words are completely unintelligible.

I was pointing out that someone didn't know Nova Scotia was a Canadian province, not making fun Canada. Asshat.

  • The Bush! Represent!

  • I used to live in Nova Scotia, but then I moved. :( I am crying because I had so many good friends who never let me down there. I'm so sad. :( :( :( If only I could move back. *sigh* :(

When my Great, Great grandfather arrived there from the Southeast of Ireland in the late 1800's, by way of New England he wound up in East Dalhousie and there he stayed till my great grandfather moved to Middleton, helped to found the Catholic church there, and of course was the town police chief.

Happy Saint Patricks Day to all!

  • @Calengela I am Canadian, live in Nova Scotia. Very rude comments. will report.

  • There's no place like Nova Scotia, when my Irish Great Great Grandfather hit those shores from Ireland he left all he knew to start a new life with his wife and my Great Grandfather was born there. Their only child that lived. God bless Nova Scotia, for without it, I wouldn't be here today :) Happy St. Patrick's day ....Erin go Bragh!

  • I traveled to Nova Scotia some 15 years ago. I found the cheery looking homes along the water to be full of character and the charm of the locals made me happy to visit. I look forward to visiting again some day, especially for that seafood chowder I had at one of the restaurants. The Best I've had. Good on ye, our Eastern Coast brothers! :)

  • @MrMetalheart10

Well~ I like Scotland :) and I'm from Nova Scotia, why would we hate Scotland?

  • @MrMetalheart10 Nova Scotia means 'New Scotland' I believe.

    Maybe that's why? ^_^

  • @MrMetalheart10 my grandfather was from novia scotia and most of the older family is still over there, but most of the population are derived from irish immigrant fishermen. it very closely resembles a seaport town like boston that was flooded with the irish who dug deep roots in to their new homes and flourished as a community.

  • @MrMetalheart10 I'm Nova Scotian, I've never been to Scotland but I would love to some day, most people who I talk to are either proud of their Scottish heritage or wish they had Scottish Heritage.

  • Well... ,,, My Friends ,, No matter where we come from , as North Americans ! ! We are North Americans , we will Stand By each OTHER

  • god i love this song

  • My God i love Nova scotia. I live in ontario and once i visited here i knew that this place is where i belong.

  • This is my FAVORITE!! song of all time ♥

  • I visited Nova Scotia a few summers ago on vacation. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We sat on the rocks at Peggy's Cove on a cloudy afternoon and listened to waves crash on the shore. It was one of most serene and memorable days of my life. Anyone disrespecting Nova Scotia is obviously ignorant of the place.

  • @0eyeless you little douche bag don`t you dare diss Canada you little mother fucker

  • Most of the comments are bullshit and have nothing to do with the song i live in Nova Scotia and if you people want to bad mouth a place you should go to it before you do

its like saying all americans are gun loving rednecks don`t go to a place before you people bad mouth it

  • Seems like every time the topic of the US comes up, people throw a conniption fit.

  • I went to Halifax for the first time this year, I am from Ontario. I loved it sooo much! I will be sure to go back to see more of Nova Scotia!

  • To all of you out there who are dissing each other "Americans are stupid" or "Canada is lam" and all that, shut up! This song is bigger than any of that! It transcends time and space. It has something for us all!

  • Nova Scotia is beautiful "I'm American" please don't insult us all like that.

  • you guys are so retarded ;_;

  • Listen my fellow Countrymen, who cares what that little American punk thinks? We all know he's just a typical mouthy ignorant little B**ch hiding behind his computer screen...and if he ever actually went to Nova Scotia and said something like that, he'd be sent home in a wheelchair crying for his momma...Canada Rules, Nova Scotia rules and we all know it so who cares what anyone else thinks?

  • @CrazzyOntarian Said like a true Nova Scotian!

  • @EpicPaintballStudios Thank You EPS, but unfortunately I have to admit I have never had the pleasure of being able to call my self a resident of your beautiful province although I have visited it twice, and I hope to visit it many more times before I die. I have also had several good friends over the years who are either from there or their families are. I just get really sick and tired of mouthy little Pr**ks like that though. They just P**s me off!

  • also She's called Nova Scotia" by Rita MacNeil also sums up how we feel about our home province especially those of us who are living away from her.

  • I miss Nova Scotia sooo much!!!!

  • We fought together in WWI & WWII, Korea and now in Afghanistan. I woudn't trade my northern neighbor for anyone. Sometimes you gotta remind people to show a little respect for an alliance thats been around a lot longer than themand sacrificed together. I've been to Nova Scotia and New foundland and love this part of Canada, beautiful.

  • @thatsdyn god bless ya, wish more of us had that attitude! cheers to our alliance

  • @thatsdyn glad to hear. too many americans forget our history. reversely, to many canadians forget it also. we are great allies, and we should remember our countries are forever linked.

  • @CryptonicNova That's kind of a load of a crap, don't you think? Who "thinks before they act?" I can bet that most Canadians just do what they're manipulated to do by politicians...kind of like the US.

  • @Sshelly34213

Yeah, we in the USA fail there. D:

But the we Native Americans aren't so bad. :D

  • @mattmatherson

  • My family was one of the few that didn't get deported. We hid in the forest for years, but we stayed here :), and i'm thankful for it.

  • All things aside , this is a Great song, Does any one know if Stan Rogers did a version.

  • My people came to New France in 1640 and some settled in Maine in the the 1800s, so I have roots in both countries. At the on start of World War One the United States was not yet in the war , my Great Uncle went to Canada and joined the Black Watch and fought for Canada. I am not a great learned man , but in my humble opinion England kept things stirred up between two great countries. There is enough hate and war in the world , it would be nice if neighbors could be neighborly .

  • hehe i envy people who live in nova scotia ^^ its such an interesting place to live

  • @darkgryffon Thank you :)

  • I believe in the British Empire, and in the second place I believe in the British race. I believe that the British race is the greatest of the governing races that the world has ever seen. - Joseph Chamberlain, 1895

  • @BorsBaledwyr bullshit.

  • I love this song! I remember in Grade Four my teacher had an accoustic guitar and he would play this song and we would sing along with him :)

  • @MsMadxHatter

Me too! We always sang this in primary school choir.
