For Instance about the whole particle thing... Crysis has a similar thing, a particle mod. But that too isn't really realistic, it just destroys pc's lol :D. Battlefield 3 with the frostbite engine has way better physhics than Nvidia physx. Also the havok physhics engine has always been a great engine without destroying video cards or cpu's. Since Nvidia has bought over Ageia the only true to life physx I have ever seen was like I said in Batman AA. Anything else sucks and u can test it urselves

Well for one thing, Crysis's particle engine and the particle engine behind PhysX are two COMPLETELY different things... the Crysis mod is a 3rd party install, while the particle engine by NVIDIA comes with PhysX, so it's obviously going to be better quality. Battlefield 3 hasn't been released yet, but you cannot say it's better than PhysX because of that reason, and because PhysX has never done full scale destruction. And yeah, I would take my username seriously, actually.

Also although Battlefield 3 hasn't come up yet, videos demonstrating the capabilities of the engine have arrived and they show everything from texture and lighting rendering to the their psysics engine. Judging from what I have seen it has way better and realistic destructability in all ways possible.

Mafia 2 was released in August, 2010. This game will be released in November of 2011. Obviously it's going to have better and realistic destruction. And not to mention, you can't even compare the two. Mafia 2 is essentially an open world game.  To give it full scale destruction wouldn't be possible, because there would be too much to render, and it would lag like hell. And you can't say the PhyX particle system is unrealistic, because you just said Batman looked "true to life".

The physx engine was simply better implemented in that game in comparison with Mafia 2 or Metro2033 or others. Just cause the implementation was better, it doesn't necesarily make the engine itself better. I can keep this up all day u know. But so far everything u have tried to prove to me has proven unsuccesful.

U see Mafia 2 may be an open-world game, but Battlefield has massive environments and much larger maps than any other regular shooters. Also just cause Mafia 2 is a massive quasy open world environment, that doesn't mean that destruction and the use of the pshyx engine will occur everywhere in that world in order to make the game lag.

Frostbite simulates destruction, lighting, and shadowing. I'm not sure what powers the physics in Bad Company (maybe Havok, or maybe even Frostbite). I do know however that PhysX simulates, the particles, the physics, the lighting, the shadowing, the material of the clothes in the game... etc. And don't forget, open world = lots of people, buildings, and cars which all have to be simulated as well. FULL destruction wouldn't be feasible.

They create destruction often times more than a rocket launcher lol. Oh, and like you said: Battlefield is a shooter. While the MULTIPLAYER maps might be large, Mafia 2 is a constantly-running huge map. Shooters usually have toned down graphics, and, pardon me, but Mafia 2 still looks much better than Battlefield 3 in terms of graphics, even if Battlefield 3 may have more destruction. When you look at the scope of the two games, Mafia 2 has better implementation of destruction, because it's a full open-world game, and not a shooter.

As in, console-favorites such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, etc. etc. Obviously Crysis will look good with the DX 11 patch, but I'm talking vanilla, un-modded games. GTA 4 does NOT look better than Mafia 2, let's get that straight, first. BFBC 2 graphics are subpar to Mafia. The frostbite engine in BFBC 2 doesn't simulate particles as well, either.

This whole physx thing does not impress me. The only and I mean the only REALLY well done physx engine game was Batman AA. All other games with physx such as mafia and metro and others sucked big time in physx simulation. So what if the clothes move in an explosion if the character wearing it is not blown away ? or like dindzr said about 0:36 with the glass. Also particles seem way too exagerated. They are put there for the sake of being there and showing off.

Next attempt of nvidia to show how "superior" GPU's are, bullshit - CPU can handle physx much better but since nvidia made the FPU calculate it rather than the new powerful SSE + disabling multi core CPU support made people buy their cards. Basically making the new CPU's like Thuban or Yorkfield perform similar to 15 year old P II or Duron; or even less. If you want a proof of what I've said look at CPU PhysX benchmarks of Batman AA, the CPU load is almost none with it enabled.

Kid, you with your knowledge about computing you can go and screw your self. FPU calculates physx as the program tells the CPU to do so. FPU is 10x Slower compared to Linear or Vector SSE calculations, Including the calculation on Single FPU rather than multiple cores. Go and use your brain before saying something stupid.

Nv PhysX is a commercial software highly downgraded under CPU's which blurs the eyes of people making them think GPU's are superior; aparently Havok engine provides SSE calculations on multiple cores. Although nvidia bribes some game companys to use their software. And yes, if you cannot live w/o particle effects you'd need to get nshit card and crack the drivers in order to allow hardware acceleration on it. AMD is working on an Open CL alternative.

PhysX is great but it just kills performance far to much even with a dedicated card to run it, and when it is on it doesnt even look all that spectatular. Its just not worth the performance hit, games can intergrate their own physics engines great anyway just by using the CPU for calculations.
