This why there are so few conservative comedians. I bet they look at you like started dogs when you make a joke and you can forget subtext, which sadly means you can forget them addressing Colbert's real points.
I don't see how it was a waste of time and tax payer money. Colbert was not the only witness there, witnesses were volunteers, and he actually made a serious statement at the end. Even his in-character bits had valid points.
Why even have a discussion about a comedian being in a congressional hearing? Surely the bigger issue is what the hearing was about, not who was in the hearing.

We can't allow local cities to make sanctuary cities policies, because they will bring our inner city turf wars to epic proportions by bringing in the drug cartel and Columbian gangs. (Mexican Gangs don't recognize US borders established Treaty of Guadalupe) C SPAN "Black Republican Forum" Session 2 (begin at 11:30) Allen West stated part of Amnesty of 1986 was to secure our borders and enforcement our laws, but haven't happened. 2/2 In November 2010, 15.1 million were unemployed (9.8%). 154 million are able to work in workforce (15.1 million/9.8%). GOOGLE “illegal immigration counters”, There are 11,941,812 (or 11.9 million) skilled jobs provided to illegal immigrants. the 15.1 million unemployed could take the 11.9 million available jobs. The unemployment rate could be reduced to 2.1% {{15.1-11.9)/154}.
maybe you missed the point of this whole hearing and debate?
find 50 American's that aren't too busy eating the food picked by immigrant / migrant workers to actually take a physically demanding job.
the abuse of immigrant workers is an embarrassment to our country and the citizens that would prefer concerning themselves with humanity rather then the percentages behind welfare recipients or where they immigrated from.
1/2 Immigrationcounters com 97% illegal immigrants are from Mexico. Illegalimmigrationstatistics org $1117 - The average amount you and your family paid in taxes this year to support illegals. 51% - The percentage of Mexican immigrant households that use at least one major welfare program. 28% use more than one.
Funny how steve king can say that Colbert's testimony was not valid. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM AND ANY OTHER CONGRESS MEMBERS TO GO WORK IN THE FIELD ONE DAY. And by the way, if they know a HELL OF A LOT OF ILLEGALS WORK IN THE FIELDS WHY DOESN'T THE GOVT SEND ICE TO THE FIELDS, KICK ALL ILLEGALS OUT AND LET THE AMERICAN "CITIZENS" DO THESE JOBS. OTHERWISE, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DON'T SAY STUPID SHIT--YOU SPECIALLY STEVE KING. COLBERT'S FACTS WERE IN FACT "FACTS" AND IF NOT PROVE HIM WRONG BITCH
insanity! colbert makes some of the most legitimate points ive heard in regards to politcs. no ones doing anything and these bastards just use everything for attacks agaisnt the other side.
I heard the testimony and I think the truth behind the comedy and the message of the comedy worked just as well. I just think some people don't have humor and can't laugh at how they themselves sound. I don't think an apology is needed. People just need to grow up.
@Mrphamsaid Agreed. It's an obvious bit of propaganda designed to get the viewer in the mood for outrage and set the tone for the rest of the interview.
OK. Here is what happens when illegals come here. They work for low wages' by American standards. By Mexican standards they are great wages. Now everyone competing for the same job no longer get raises. Even they don't understand why they can't get a raise. It's because the employer knows if they get mad about not getting a raise and quit, there is another Mexican waiting at the door to take the job at the same low pay. They are just dragging our economy down to Mexico's level.
It takes intelligence to understand comedy..............no wonder Steve King thought it was an insult and a waste of time...........he didn't get the point. The biggest waste of time and tax payer dollars is Steve King in Congress.
Absolute disgrace in what should be journalism. There was no interview, just a pissed off bitch tugging on a politician's sleeve going, "What the hell was that? Are you mad? I'm mad! I can't stay composed for more than three seconds at a time!"
@csmallo. Yeah and we should bring " el cartel the sinaloa" to cut u up in little pieces put you in a platic bag and throw you in the river. Ur kinds always think u can solve your problems with war.
First of all, if you invite Stephen Colbert to speak, a widely know satirist--who spoke in character at the White House Correspondents dinner--there is a good chance he will speak in character here too. Secondly, if you actually listened to his speech and understood his satire, he made some good arguments. However, it seems that the right-winged media is either too incompetent or too stubborn realize that.
I'm not saying that it was appropriate, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out Colbert
@dmnhntr32 Sorry, my family was here before the Revolution. They came as conquerors, taking the raw unused land from savages and turning into a productive nation.
@Csmallo Oh that's funny. "Because I can improve the land and make a buck off of it, I therefore deserve to own it rather than you?" Wow, it's like a line straight out of Robinson Crusoe. Except you want to shoot Man Friday instead.
We haven't taken Capitol Hill seriously for years! This incident didn't make us feel that way. It made life more livable until the Houses decide when they plan to take America's problems more seriously while they squabble over which poltical party is better. Colbert wasted time and tax dollars? No, the politicians have been wasting our time and tax dollars. You can use my tax dollars to pay for Steve Colbert. It was worth every penny! I'm ready to vote him in!
It made me a little sick to hear this guy and Kelly put themselves on the side of migrant workers when his party and her propaganda channel do everything in their power to hurt the least of our brothers.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are at best hacks as comedians and whose political opinions are as useful as screen doors on a submarine. They should both stick to telling "knock-knock" jokes. Fucking idiots!!!!!!!
Anyone who decides to work in government is a humorless cunt anyways. There's not one poignant thought going through this girl's pretty little head. The US congress wastes FAR more money on useless and more offensive shit every second of every day.
I hope Congressman Douchebag did this interview on his break and not on taxpayers time...otherwise he owes america an apology for taking about steven colbert on the taxpayers dime.
Lol, Fox News complaining about stephen Colbert being a waste of time... oh.. do they have it ass backwards. Fact is Stephen Colbert is a Widely respected figure in the world of political satire and his points are more valid that half the shit that goes on in congress. Sometimes very few words make the point that some snarky asshat politician could never make with his 200 page written report. Govern smarter, not harder.
I so hate this barbiedoll-in-drag announcer complaining that somebody with a sense of humor and decency is wasting anybody's time. She is wasting her own time. I wish her cheekbones would cave into her larynx.
Get a clue. He was there because someone felt the could draw attention to the plight of farm workers. He was there because he was invited by a committee member. Basically the same reason the puppet Elmo once testified to a congressional committee. For the record, Elmo too testified in character. Spare us your 'outrage' you republican buffoon.
Is Megyn part of Fox's "news" shows or "opinion" shows? They have the "Fox News" icon in the lower left corner, so it would appear to be representing itself as news.
Cost to have Colbert testify before congress, $125,000.
These people are hilarious. Colbert never said it was too hard, but he mentioned that he wouldn't choose to do it if he had a choice. He also mentioned that if the american gov't paid more for the job to be done, americans would be quicker to take these jobs. As well as the fact that if the immigrant workers were legal citizens or at least had Visas, that they would be able to fight for better wages, and thus leverage them against the wages of citizens doing the same jobs.
Megyn and her stupid fake outrage. I have an idea, Megyn, why don't your pretty little face get up and go join the 16 people who did this? What's the matter, Megyn, too good to pick fruit?
This is not new, and this is not news. Silly gimmick testimony before congress has a long and ridiculous tradition behind it.
And hey Steve King, aren't you paid by taxpayers? Aren't you literally sitting there burning taxpayer money talking about Colbert to one of the least reliable "news" organizations in the world right now? If you're so damn concerned about taxpayer money being wasted, shut the f&*% up and get back to work.
seems to be an overwhelming lack of oxygen on most of these comments. we have real problems in this country. real severe problems. Devaluation of the dollar, no jobs with living wages, 2 wars and more being dreamed up as we speak, a president suing arizona for enforcing the law......its just unreal. The left right paradigm is an illusion. America is owned by corporations who ship our jobs offshore. Then this pencil dick gets on the tube to tell us what we can and cant do for work.
What an bunch of idiots - claiming this cost $125,000 by taking the total committee budget and dividing it by the number of hearings. The vast majority of committee costs goes to pay the salaries and benefits of committee staffers. These folks really do insult people's intelligence. The Fox "reporter" has her tone set to OUTRAGED.
@Robstailey He knows how many of us love Stephen Colbert. Steve King is usually an asshole. Besides, Glen Beck gets to go on tv and act like he knows what he's talking about everyday on Fixed news.
If Colbert wasted 125 grand in 5 minutes just imagine the billions being wasted by all the filibusters and political obstruction from worthless rethugs.
Conservatives just don't like the way he parodies their fear. It's not an "insult to the time", it's a wake-up call to do what's right and work together. I loved it.
@TitanMadness808 well as a non american we know that fox news does not stand for all of america but it does worry me to what extent of people who actually listens to them and take them seriously. It is obviously not fully their own fault; sure you could argue that they should view a broader spectrum of the news outlet, maybe a few non domestic news stations or sites but Fox News is very good at convincing people that all other media is leftist and liberal. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
@TitanMadness808 In France we had a clown run for president in the 80s. He said "when the politicians stop making us laugh, I will stop doing politics".
Why are the news anchors on FOX F&M such dumbasses? Objective interviewing has never been available on that network. No taxpayer dollars were used to have Colbert's testimony for 5 minutes. Real hard work: Congressional minimum salary- 174,000 per year. To do what? Sit on their asses and not get sh#t done.
Colbert's testimony is such a waste of time, as opposed to the Republicans' continual opposition and filibustering in Congress. That makes perfect sense.
Stephen Colbert is a citizen and has every right to testify before congress. This is just two propagandists trying to discredit him before his rally in October.
Strange. I feel like she just might be biased.

These people suck!

Megyn and her stupid fake outrage. I have an idea, Megyn, why don't your pretty little face get up and go join the 16 people who did this? What's the matter, Megyn, too good to pick fruit?

Funny how Steve King manages to stay in character for the whole interview.

You know what, these people need to shut up and get back work.
I wouldn't vote if these douches were advocating it.
Voting needed the "Colbert Bump"!

I KNOW that my friends and relatives in Iowa are going to work hard to REMOVE Mr. King from office. They are ashamed that he is from Iowa.

seems to be an overwhelming lack of oxygen on most of these comments. we have real problems in this country. real severe problems.

The Fox "reporter" has her tone set to OUTRAGED.

the funny part is the dumb blonde keeps trying to take cheap shots and act all offended by colbert, but king keeps refusing to sink to her level.
Robstailey 1 year ago 3
@Robstailey He knows how many of us love Stephen Colbert. Steve King is usually an asshole. Besides, Glen Beck gets to go on tv and act like he knows what he's talking about everyday on Fixed news.
anitafh1 1 year ago 2
If Colbert wasted 125 grand in 5 minutes just imagine the billions being wasted by all the filibusters and political obstruction from worthless rethugs.

I like how everything was seen as negative except the part where he said dems are going to be looking for jobs in the fall...fox news is so retarded.

I've heard many conservatives applaud Colbert for this one. FOX pundits are such losers!
SocialistLiberal 1 year ago
Conservatives just don't like the way he parodies their fear. It's not an "insult to the time", it's a wake-up call to do what's right and work together. I loved it.

Congress and Fox News makes america look like a comedy show...
TitanMadness808 1 year ago 36
@TitanMadness808 well as a non american we know that fox news does not stand for all of america but it does worry me to what extent of people who actually listens to them and take them seriously. It is obviously not fully their own fault; sure you could argue that they should view a broader spectrum of the news outlet, maybe a few non domestic news stations or sites but Fox News is very good at convincing people that all other media is leftist and liberal. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
omgnuub 1 year ago
@omgnuub Yes and it's sad because it is so true.

@TitanMadness808 In France we had a clown run for president in the 80s. He said "when the politicians stop making us laugh, I will stop doing politics".

@TitanMadness808 because it is a comedy show. Government is not doing its job and it is pathetic.

KingdomofSiam 1 year ago
Colbert's testimony is such a waste of time, as opposed to the Republicans' continual opposition and filibustering in Congress. That makes perfect sense.

Stephen Colbert is a citizen and has every right to testify before congress. This is just two propagandists trying to discredit him before his rally in October.
hollygolightly66 1 year ago 5
Actually, truth in politics has come largely from satirists (esp. compared to professional politicians).
A real waste of congress' time and tax-payer money were the hearings on steroids in MLB.
