  • "Is she pretty?" Well if you're on a ship for months on end surrounded by men, then yes she is.

  • Pellew's hats keep getting bigger.

  • No one on the groom's side???

  • That guy is so much better at being a naval officer than the Doctor.

  • I was at the wedding ;o)

  • Father, son, and holy ghost!? I thought they had gotten rid of bloody Catholicism by this time in the UK!?

  • @BrianCardova I think the C of E used it as well.

  • ew gross maria

  • Hornblower doesn''t looked thrilled at the prospects of marriage

  • Pellew is a good commander like jack aubrey.

  • can't believe they stopped this great series......it was the real deal

  • Is it really a mystery when a ship goes missing when it's patrolling in enemy territory??? There isn't exactly a total mystery of what could happen to it.

  • 3:08 Interesting how the mother perks up when Horatio mentions 'worldly goods'.... Hilarious. :D

  • French chick > British...thing.

  • And so enters the WORST nickname in the history of everything: Horry.

I can never forgive Maria for that... Poor Horatio

  • Great Serie I didn'Tred the Books so the hole Story was' not Known by me i find the stuff Beautiful transfered into a mini serie

  • W.T.F?! What's with the ratings playing at being horses?! #confused

  • @NobleKorhedron This was a naval tradition. If a Ship's Captain (or other similarly high-ranking officer) were to marry, then his crew (or staff) would serve as the escort and guard of honour for the ceremony. All good fun, eh?

  • "I want to be just like Admiral Pellew when I grow up!" - James T. Kirk

  • vadia de sorte

  • "Duty"? This episode should be called "Dumbass".

  • They cut the cake with the sword? Classy tradition. Probably it wasn't very good cake :-).

  • @uclmu2008 That's fine: as a sailor, he wouldn't have had a very good sword either. This era saw the beginning of mass production; an increase in production, though with a reduction in quality. Unlike the army, where officers would purchase their ranks (and so could afford a decent sword), the R.N. was meritocratic, and so the sword was part of a standard uniform available to all officers. A uniform which had to be purchased none-the-less, but was relatively cheap in comparison.

  • Horatio is certainly what Alan Partridge would term 'a gayman'.

  • you really want to know why the stopped making this? cause Ioan Gruffudd got famous and bbc couldnt afford him anymore. basically he turned back on hornblower

  • @SauronsLeftNut The Horatio Hornblower series was a high budget production from the very beginning (especially considering it was only made for tv). They simply could not afford making it anymore. Ioan Gruffudd has stated again and again how much he would love to portray Horatio again so I don't think money is HIS issue.

  • @BattyKellen Too true.... All those wooden ships and reenactment props are expensive as hell to get and maintain. I didn't know that about Ioan though, thanks!

  • *skips through all the wedding bullshit*

  • @DiVeronica Thats what I did aswell.

  • These seamen are putting horses out of business, pulling that coach from the church ....

  • miles better than sharp haha :')

  • @goldmine1995 Its Sharpe.

  • @LordWellington15 doesnt really matter does it :'), you new what i ment

  • Wht did they stop making this ??????????????

  • She actually looks quite prettier in a bride's gown

  • @funnyflyingdutchgirl still a good movie tho ;)

  • Hate THE quality

  • @hugy991 Sorry Uploaded it a while ago.. no HD !

  • 06:30 - 08:07 I do like the way the relationship developed. And Robert Lindsay nails this especially the grunt at the comment on the steward.

  • So Sad that Archie did not live to see this...but had he lived Hornblower most likely would be dead ..catch 22 i guess one of them had to die

  • @vardiss22 He wouldn't have lived anyway.

  • maria, by herself, is not bad. what is bad is that she is packaged w/ her horrible mother -- poor william bush, pressed against the fireplace and signalling SOS.

  • @murrungay Yes! Maria loves him. He made an instant decision that he sure should have thought upon. Now he's stuck and trying to make the best of it. And that mother thinks she's won the gin lottery. But I like the break and his men enjoy the day. Maria pretends that he loves her, thinking a man wouldn't ask unless he did but she knows better deep down. He was just trying to pay back kindness and got in too deep. Well, at least she adores him and is a good soul. What more could he ask?

  • How come Pellers wasn't invited?

  • The duchess was truly playful, clever and fun. She would have got along with him soooo well!

  • i would follow officers like pellew, hornblower and sharpe to the end of the earth and back if they asked!

  • hes no sharpe lol

  • @bigrob555607 Who is?

  • god i feel so sorry for hornblower

  • Fuck Maria dat hoe, the French girl was much prettier :D

  • he should have married the dutchess if anyone. now she was a total cougar hottie

  • "Well kiss her then!"

    "Oh, yes. Um...*kiss*"

    "Horry, did you...throw up?"

    The reason mouthwash was invented.

  • Pellwe

  • Is Hornblower Catholic or Anglican?

  • @LordWellington15 Probably Anglican, think being in the Royal Navy back then you had to be.

  • @chrismc410 I would also think he is Anglican, but you could be any religion and still join the navy, but they preferred Protestant Officers.

  • Sad Hornblower finds his ship prettier than his wife.

  • After a lightning rise through the ranks of the royal navy and countless acts of bravery and daring, Hornblower forces himself to marry a plain landlubber he doesn't love so he can feel ok about handing her a bit of money for rent?

  • Pellew!!! PELLEW!!!!!!

  • In the words of the great Lou Costello: "I'd rather marry a homely girl because a beautiful one is liable to run away. If a homely one runs away who cares?" LOL!

  • Look at the bright side. He will be at sea most of the time and she dies in the books anyway. Then he marries a better one anyway.

  • I preferred the French ckick, she was pretty damn hot.

  • @TheGeekful Pity she died on Hornblower

  • @TheGeekful I second that

  • @TheGeekful Agreed. Only if she had made it over the bridge...

  • but but how could you not think Julia Sawalha is a tasty tasty peice. fell in lust with her way back in press gang

  • @TheGeekful spot on mate spot on

  • @TheGeekful Omg, so hot<3

  • Horatio was rash for sure. But Bush makes a good point - this girl loves him, will stay by him, and will make an excellent wife. Not like that tart from from the Sharpe series! At first I felt bad for young Horatio, but in his haste he at least chose wisely.

  • he loves here right??? i dont know for shore xD

  • @lunaMoonMaan no he doesn't. he pities her but respects her as well if you reads the books he is miserable with her but she dies giving birth two their third child (the first two died from disease) and this frees him up to marry the woman he truly loves... even though he cheats on her twice

  • @oogalypoogalyman owww okeey well i did not read the books (i'm from the Netherlands and the are impossible to find over here! ) i guess he should not have married here because he doesn't love her but well different time hea.

  • Pellews is so proud that his practical son has gotten married.

  • I hope he washed his mouth out with Listerine before he kissed her. He was throwing up chunks in his cabin.

  • It sucks for Hornblower, but he is actually sacrificing a chunk of his sanity for a poor miserable girl. To see her smile and look so happy warms my heart, and for that, Hornblower has my respect.

  • most handsome?oh hori you are such a geezer:--)

  • leave Maria alone. she's not ugly, so what if she is plain looking!

  • He´s fearless at sea and in battle but he´s so afraid of getting married that he´s sick. Men!

  • Mariah is beautiful, I love the way she flutters her eyes.

  • WHY WHY WHY!

  • At least jane from the sharpe series had a better rack lol!

  • Well in the immortal words of Lou Costello, "It's better to marry a homely girl because a beautiful one might run away. If the homely one runs away, who cares?" LOL!

  • you guys dont konw?? Maria did die later..on in the bed when she was having a baby. so Hornblower, from what I have reade the books it says that maria died, and horonblower, Commador Hornblowr, later Lord Hornblower or it was sir hornblower got maried to a female cousin to sir Arthur Wellsley later as most know himLord wellington...and Admiral Pelliew is still hanging on..and also bush is also part in the book I have, but in an other bush gets killed in action.

  • @svensksoldat91 no not Bush!!! :(

  • Robert Lindsay? Or Kevin Spacey with an accent?

  • For the record, Horatio DOES marry Maria in the book series; "Hornblower and the Hotspur", I believe. It wasn't just the idea of the producers.

If it's any consolation, she's much less annoying in this series. In the books, she's a blubbering baby.

  • 8:52 is an awesome speech, right from the book :)

  • "is she pretty?"

actually she looks like a horse.

sounds like curiously intriguing enemy activity to me!

  • @petang83 wow why is everyone so nasty about mariah. she's not beautiful but she's hardly ugly and certainly a good person. sheesh. maybe you watch too many movies.... guess what, in real life not everybody gets a super-model calibre wife, and the ones who do often wind up unhappy.

  • @ShawDAMAN The Problem is not mariah but Horatio and his understanding of duty. Following to the books Horatio is a verry unhappy man, today you might say depressive, anxious about failure and without any self assurance. Thats the reason for his bold actions and also for marring Mariah - and he knows that.

  • @Hnamroe right; I was just annoyed with all these people and their comments for attacking mariah because of her looks or some other nonsense.

  • @Hnamroe It is good to see a flawed character like myself.

  • @ShawDAMAN but he's already unhappy.

  • @petang83 sure, but that's his fault for marrying some body he didn't really love that deeply (at least initially).. not because she is 'ugly.'

  • @petang83 Wow you obviously have no life and all you do is sit on the computer all day. She isn't a super model but certainly not ugly by any means.

  • @MajBlood

As I mentioned on another post for Loyalty, they made this Maria much more sweet and attractive than the book Maria.

As for hurling before getting married, it has nothing to do with the attractiveness quotient of the woman. Its withdrawal symptoms from bachelorhood. Been there, done that.

  • @neckronn99 Yeck, you have my sympathies.

  • in the last episode Mariah's mother mentions how her husband served and died at sea. bet that gave hornblower a few ideas.

  • Julia Salwalha has her own charm.

  • He's like 5 years younger than her.

  • wow.....his wife is NOT a looker.....

  • I've heard of pre-wedding nervousness, but VOMITING?!? Um......

  • @AragornofRedwall Haratio takes everything seriously

  • @AragornofRedwall Haratio takes everything seriously

how is he piking he didn't even eat anything

  • @AragornofRedwall its not, if you read the book the same thing happens again, you have to get used to the swaying boat again

  • @AragornofRedwall you have to get used to the swaying boats again, or mabye it's Maria's face

  • hahahahahahaha horatio tried to fucking dodge out on having sex with his wife on their first night hahahaha

  • @kakabukkake0 So would you if she looked like that...

  • Let's use the sword I used to disembowel a frenchman with a week ago to cut the cake.

  • @Knightnwhite475

Thx for great reminder! ... "If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife! And for my personal thought of you, get an ugly girl to marry you!" haha lol

I always LOVED this funny upbeat & danceable song. It was kinda 'jamaican-style' rhythm, too.

  • ahhh didnt he found a better one? :P

  • I snook in with the hot French girl when Hornblower was called away for some fight or summat! :P

  • the french chick from frogs and lobsters was sooo much hotterrrr!!!! wtf was the director thinking when casting her?

  • You have the hamburgers at home and you have the steak at another port

  • I hope mother doesn't have any idea's for Mr. Bush.

  • @baroquemusician1 LOL!!!!

  • @baroquemusician1 LOL!!!

  • does he not love her then?

  • @Knightnwhite475 your right...then again you can get lucky i did my ex was pretty then turned into a dragon and old maid..lol..so it can backfire

  • shes fine nelsons wife was no looker she was virtually ignored

  • no, don't do it!

  • @Knightnwhite475 you are a sexist hoser!!!!!! Freak off and find another place to tell your crap to!!!

  • Her pet name for him is 'Horry'. That's Horry-ble.

  • @tyrannusBE I wonder if Maria had checked her Horry-scope? Do you think she likes to be Horry-zontal? This misuse of words is simply Horry-id

  • Why couldnt they have used a slightly sexier chick? sharpe set such high standards, doing princesses and spanish crazy ladies, then hornblower totally ignored those standards. Berk.

  • Robert Lindsey does an awesome Pellew complete with all the pomp and pagentry due the admiral.

And beauty, real, true beauty lies skin deep.

  • what an idiot, here let me marry you so i can give you money without making you feel like a whore...

  • "Is she Pretty"

"I believe she is most Handsome Sir"

    LIES!!! ALL LIES!!! <_<

  • I think Sharpe had better luck with women.

  • Not. Hot.

  • @thrombox I pity whatever woman captures YOUR affections.

  • @smellincoffee LOL I agree!

  • Yes this is the last one :(

  • is this the last one? I have the dvd's but it seems opened ended

  • Mr Prowse is funny, it is almost as if he purposely wears his hat firmly in position as to keep his terrible wig in disguise.

  • parked his ship bloody close to the window didnt he.

  • quick get away :)

  • @ukanian: agreed well it is a TV-series after all. So lets not be too critical shall we.

  • Mother and daughter's accents are working class London. Odd that they don't speak with a Hampshire accent since they are from Portsmouth, which would have been more socially acceptable. Several officers in this series have a Hampshire or West Country accent.

  • Funny the wedding takes place in the book Hornblower and the hotspur. and the visit from the admiral is correct except for the fact that i dont believe it is pelew.

However the mission he is sent on is totally different. anyone know if this mission is from another book? or some bastardized thing they came up with?

  • in my opinion, i felt Duty was the weakest of the entire series. i felt bad the whole thing ended on such a note with her saying "You're gonna be a dad!" and then it fades to black as if it's a commercial break or something- but its not. its the end of this beloved, awesome series -_-

i hope no one's offended by this comment, but its just how i feel- i've been watching hornblower since 1999 when it first premired on A&E and i wholly hope they bring it back :)

  • @KeaneshapedTardis: Yeah, I'm right there with you. I actually heard that Ione Gruffud (*spelling), Hornblower's actor, tried to by the rights and continue the series, but the owners refused.

  • @theWall0719 well, the american producers, specifically :p gah, blasted A&E! instead of bringing us proper programming they rather run reruns of the sopranos and air crap reality shows :/ i really hope one day they'll get things together and they'll bring it back somehow, like maybe PBS could chime in or something or one of the cable networks like when they made Rome.

but yeah, all we can do is wait and hope :(

  • 1:14 - Horatio Cornblower

  • lol, the word "hornblower" is already an insult.

  • @shaunpaikai

    Horatio Upchucker ;)

  • Sensible man that lt. Bush. 'In my opinion ithere is never a good time to get married' lol

  • its funny horatio would rather go back the the hms hotspur then spend the night with his wife lmao hahahahaha

  • too bad that french girl died in frogs and lobsters.. horatio probably been alot happier lmao

  • Yeah she looked a dam sight better.

  • @anzac95 Ah, it turns out well....what with Lady Wellesley and all.

  • @anzac95 yes yes yes, thats exactly what i'm thinking...and she looked better as well haha

  • @anzac95 I agree, and no offense, but she was prettier too.

  • @anzac95 well the French girl was alright. I would have prefered a foursome with myself, Pellew, Styles and Mathews

  • @anzac95 he later marries Wellselsy sister

  • @anzac95 yeah she was a super hottie

  • @anzac95 yeahh and she was more fit aswell ;) haha

  • A military man is better off with a comelier wife IMO. Vixens care to be high maintenance and a man of honor like Horatio she would bring much pain.

  • If only Julia is her more spirited self the way she was in Pride & Prejudice (Lydia Bennett) then this marriage would have been more fun & Horatio won't look this unhappy! If a man stares longingly at his ship than the bride in his room ....well..... he can lie all he likes to her but his heart is definitely not where she is. Poor Hornblower! This guy should have stayed FREE!

  • so is there a number 9th episode ?

  • Fearless when he's up against getting his face blown off or drowning but petrified when it comes to getting married. I've always loved these shows.

  • 6:39 I LOL'd really hard

    Pellew is the best.

  • Ah, but, lest we forget, the mating urge of the Naked Ape is our most powerful urge. It was Alexander, I believe, who said that when the lights are out all women are the same.

  • Poor Horatio.

  • It's a bloody stupid marriage, hornblower shouldn't have done it.

  • " Oh horry" That sounds so wrong.....

  • At least he won't be home much .
