@MrJordybt dude seriously, maybe your right about that but, but this is really disrespectfull, if you like MMA so much why do you look at something like this?
@MrGuitarplayer1990 I look at this, becuase i was a TaeKwonDo fighter and transitioned to MMA....You're right, i was being very disrespectful...I'm sorry for that....I forgot what my Master told me.
Alot of TSD tournaments moved to No contact sparring for beginners and Light contact for Black belts and above due to a few incidents in the 90's where a guy got his neck broke from a jump back spin kick and another guy got his lower back broken with a punch just below the solar plexis. At least within Tang Soo Do-USA.
To add to this, the only real difference between international style TSD and TKD tournaments is the fact TSD has a different pt system and scores punches to the face unlike TKD.
LOL, I just got this art recomended to me..... I've seen a few videos now and I'm not a fan....sorry. It seems like all competition is touch/point based, witch is a bad way to learn a fighting art. I means students try to just kick alot, keep horible fighting stances and aren't used to using combinations... not to mention there's no grappling of any kind, not even position orientated.. I'm not a huge grappling fan, but having basic knowledge of ground positioning is absolutely necessary!

These funny point-fighting matches are a disgrace to Traditional Martial Arts. This is a total joke, hope these guys dont ever get in a real fight and try that flying tornado kick while wearing jeans.
or walk across a ring with that stupid face height kick-holding your leg in the air and when you feather kick- them and raise your hands in victory unaware they are about to pound you in they face-and then proceed to get your ass kicked. These type of movements have little power and leave you open to attack.
Its not about the art, its about the actual martial artist. You get what you put into it, so it doesnt matter what you study. All arts have their positives and negatives.
Back spin kicks looked good. I noticed that most of the hyungs needed more power though. TSD is about self-defense. Every block / attack should be strong enough to knock back an opponents attack or put them on the ground.
@gundrag000 TKD came AFTER TSD.. its a derivitive of it. TSD was founded in the 1940s, while TSD has been around ALOT longer. TKD is more sport than anything, and its all about its show boating kicks.
@nandansho We had an exchange student from Germany who was just shy of getting his black belt in kickboxing... very impressive stuff. Its definately a fighting art.
I do Tang Soo Do and remember that sparring is NOT self defense, its a exercise and sport. In a self defense situation we (TSD practitioners) would spear/punch our opponent in the throat and not even think about high kicks.
If you morons knew anything about TKD, you would know that it had its origins in TSD and both are very similar to one another. Chuck Norris was TSD, and destroyed many TKD and Karate practitioners in his tournament career.
I enjoyed this video, I practice ITF TKD myself, and see many similarities, I do not enjoy the forms as much, but the breaking techniques are excellent. Thanks!

In tsd if you use excessive force you can be disqualified. Difference of principal. Again, here, points sparring, first to touch the area gets the point. I also did Shaolin Kung fu, both pale in comparison in sparring comps to that.
i'm red belt at tae kwon do and i can say that the tang soo do looks a little out of combat technique 'cuz they use the kicks like little jabs and that's rly useless 'sometimes 'cuz you are out of balance in a real combat but they have good moves also
These guys sparring are not the representatives of Tang Soo Do. All that was thrown was basically ahp bahl tollyo cha ki (Front leg round house kick) and dwi huryo cha ki (spinning hook kick). There were no pandal (crescent), nearyo (downward/axe), dwi yup (spinning back) or yup (side) kicks.
@RedKetchupz ru kidding me? you are liek whitebelted taekwondo and u think u know what tangsoodo or tkd is. lol u will learn a bit when u get about black belt with 1st dan. then u have atleast SOME experience. Untill that u know veryvery little about it
@RedKetchupz that depends on which black belt I am with a different Tang Soo Do organization and none of our black belts are like this. They are much better.
@RedKetchupz haha , its not the sport what better , both are great sports and if you have no respect for that ,you please stop commenting , and a yellow belt vs a black belt , dont make me laugh
@RedKetchupz eh.no its just different.i did TSD is more controlled while TKD is faster. This is mostly due to the equipment cause in TSD u dont have a vest.

I think that misconception comes from Olympic Tae Kwon Do, where they very rarely use hands, and usually fight with there hands at their sides. Not How I would fight, but I have fought guys with kicks so fast that I couldn't see them. In that case i guess you wouldn't need your hands.

Why tell the opponent what you're gonna do by walking towards them with your leg raised? Also why does no one have their guard high when it's clear most of these people will go for a head kick? Have any of these kids heard of ducking?
with raised leg you can do a lot of tehniques, side kick, roundhouse kick or even a hook kick or boxing punches. In semi contact you dont have to have a normal boxing guard becouse you must be fast. If sbd kick to head you can do a front jump hand punch.
I know, but raising your leg before you're ready to kick is too easy to block or move away from. Why run backward away from a kick when their leg is raised? You're gonna get kicked. It would be better to move sideways or move in.
Not to mention that the kick has lost all of its momentum in that position and the power is coming from nothing but the knee, making it about as effectual as a nudge.
exactly! there is no hip into the kick. it's worthless. these people are trained strictly for scoring points and in japanese karate those kicks wouldn't even qualify as points.
But kicking like this is way too easy to see coming. I fail to see how these people were taught to give away such obvious signals in fighting. I also fail to see how the idiots getting kicked didn't see it coming a mile away!
I agree with Ih901. I don't get it. These people would not last five seconds in a Shotokan tournament. All you have to do to someone bouncing on one foot with the other leg in the air is knock or push them down.
Its not as simple as that. With your opponent's leg raised it is difficult to manoeuvre around it since every direction is covered by a kick. I personally don't use it, but a nice reverse roundhouse gets around it, since a point can't be scored on the back.
True that.i cant see these guys fight on the street bouncing their leg in the air and tryin 2 whiplash a roundhouse 2 the head.its 2 risky cuz ur leaving an open shot 2 any other part of ur body
As i said, when you're sliding with side kick with high raised knee you can do many techniques - not only side kick. With knee raised in that way your opponent will think that you want to side kick - but you can do other kick.
"kicked idiots" as you said arent from us organisation.
If this went into a mixed tournament, the raised leg would result in either the opponent moving behind you, or the leg your standing on being kicked from under you.

But slide with side kicks can prepere next action.
