A few points - I think Emmit may be gay. Secondly, I think a parallel story of love and quiet desire develops between Richard and Elizabeth. They seem to "find" each other when needed the most and she supports him when all else fails.

i think you're reading way too much into it .. valid points, but for a comedy this light hearted, i doubt it.. maybe if it was As Time Goes By, or another comedy more grounded in reality.. this is just too ridiculously lightly toned and hilarious

@insanecaine I often wonder did Elizabeth and Richard have a quiet affair going on? They rather be together and right under Hyacinth's nose. Liz and Richard are even sitting together on the bench, and Hyacinth is on the other side of the bench. Hyacinth is so narcissistic and self-absorbed, that she wouldn't think about Liz and Richard having an affair. I don't agree with men having affairs, but I could relate to why Richard would. I wouldn't blame him. He needs an outlet.
