Yeah i did all the steps yet it didn't work, when i test connection.. Xbox 360.....Network....Internet....Xbox Live.. It always fails from xbox 360 to network?? WHY IS THIS??
@TheOfficialGrimeShow Hmm, it fails from 360 to network? It must not be making a connection to the network you're using.. which could mean you've entered the MAC address wrong, you've entered the DNS wrong, your cable is bad, or even your jack on the wall or back of the console is messed up. Restart your computer, resend /ipconig, write everything down, plug the console back in, reset your network settings and re-enter the info. Make sure everything is correct.
@GFXDude2010 Everything is correct, the ports are fine, i've tried a new wire, it works fine at home through the ethernet cable, restarted everything. I've restarted everything and still it fails from 360 to network.. Haven't got a clue why!
@AlinaKei Try using an IP address from a library/other campus computer instead of the one from your room. That should allow for a moderate NAT type, but still not guaranteed. I didn't notice many problems with parties last year when I did that.
@MrCoko4 The NAT settings are going to be Moderate/Strict on campus... Moderate is the best I can muster. The only way I was able to pull out of the Strict zone to Moderate was to use this technique on a campus computer (i.e. Library, Public Lab) as their connection speed is much higher than the dorm ones. AlinaKei, if you've got a router first, you should be able to atleast get Moderate if not Open. Try forwarding the Xbox 360 ports. (Google these)
@ItsAPeachProductions If I remember correctly, justice is entirely wireless right? If so, then this won't work. You can't do this hack wirelessly. The only way to get the xbox online wirelessly would be to use ICS with wireless card and create your own hotspot, which isn't allowed in the dorms.
@ItsAPeachProductions Oh yeah, justice has phone jacks in the rooms. You would have to get a DSL modem that isn't wireless to be able to do it. I'm not sure how the connection would be, but it would be slower than the campus' broadband for sure. You might could do Internet Connection Sharing, share to your ethernet port on your computer, and run that to a regular router. Just turn wireless off. you can get one for like $30 at staples.
Don't want to post the ASU work around in comments because i'm not quite sure if it's even legal... but if you're at ASU and are having the tunnel problem, send me a message instead of adding a reply to the video and I'll get you online.
@BrandonMourier PS3 doesn't allow the MAC address to be changed, which is why I haven't put up a tutorial about it. My friend managed to register his PS3 somehow last year but the connection only worked one time. I'm sure they realized it wasn't a PC and blocked it. For now, the only way to do it with PS3 that I know of is to get a router. You can get one for ~$30 at Staples. Just don't setup wireless on it in the dorms or you'll get fussed at.
Yeah I'm over in Lovill, and under "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" there is no DNS or Default Gateway. Tech is telling me that you need some kind of router or something to hook up gaming devices...
@Chulumbus That was an alternate method that's been available for years now. They might have got annoyed with me eating at their bandwidth with this tutorial. There's always a work around. Will make a video response soon for a new method of doing this at ASU. This method may still be available to others at different schools though.
on my computer it wont even show all the addresses when i input ipconfig...im in cannon hall this year....it shows all these tunnel adapters that are disconnected
@DLawing2 Hrm, that's odd. I'm going to have to log in on campus soon and check out what they've done to the network over the summer. They made a really big deal about redoing things this summer, so they might have somehow blocked this method of connectivity. I'll let you know asap.
@rainmaker395 You're on campus during the summer? It shouldn't be strict, but I can understand moderate. Are you in App Heights or something? They've been messing with the network on campus recently.
@rainmaker395 So you're plugged directly into the port on the wall to your xbox, and you've got a Strict NAT type? I had a Strict at one point but I unregistered the connection and redid the setup and it fixed it. Try changing the DNS servers to the free DNS Servers provided by Google. Primary: 8.8.8.8 Secondary: 8.8.8.8 or 4.4.4.4
@clonecommander07 Hmm some how I missed your question, sorry about that. Most campuses allow more than 1 registration on their network. If you're only allowed one then you can just switch your ethernet cable back and forth. I'm making a tutorial soon about using ICS on Xbox Live so you can use internet on both simultaneously.
I got everything typed in just like you but mine will not connect to the network. Im also a student at app so the network is the same. I cant figure out what is wrong.
@allang318 You shouldn't copy the numbers I have on mine, yours will be different, but probably still similar. You're on campus? If you're not on campus, then it won't be the same network. If you're not on campus, i can help you do it an easier way for you. Shoot me an email stclairat@app.... if you still need help.
I would like to thank you for this method, it allowed me to get on and get all my free downloadable rock band songs =D. The only setback I'm having is it seems to stop working after around 30 minutes. I have to plug the ethernet cable back into my computer, sign in using resnet. Plug the cable back into the ethernet and it works again. I am at least happy I can have a few minutes to get a quick download, but no online play for me i guess.
@Alexlsonflre Hmm, that's odd. It would either be a problem with the bandwidth usage vs your ISP or something deeper than that. Try some google searches about "Xbox Live disconnecting randomly" or something, maybe those will solve your issue!
This works great for macs, just follow the instructions on the link below the video. Im at a university in England and used this to get my xbox, mac and windows laptop working. Thanks :D
Before this video I could always connect to live but I had a strict NAT type setting. I thought doing it this way would bypass that. It said it worked for me, but it said I may have problems due to a strict NAT type, still.
@BusterCall4 But you can still connect to your network right? This tutorial isn't about fixing your NAT type, that all depends on what type of network/'service you're running to the xbox.
@andrewafgh Hmm, weird. Have you tried another Ethernet cable? That's about the only thing I can think of for it to not even realize there's an ethernet cable plugged in.
For a test:
Go to your network settings, and in the screen appearing at 3:39 in the video, does it look the same as mine? Of course I realize my video's pretty crappy at that point though. If no cable is plugged in you shouldn't have all the same options as you do when one is plugged in. This'll check to see if it's the cable
@Iraff77 Ok, so I'm not a MAC fan, but there's many people here who have MAC's, and I may borrow one and re-create this video for MAC users. I also have a PSN video on the way.
But to answer your question, i've edited the video description with links showing you how to obtain the information you need on a MAC.
