I loved this show. I've STILL got my Black Beauty record from when I was a little girl in the early 70's. The actress narrates a story on it and the theme tune is also on it....ha ha ..I'll never part with it !
feelgood tv for sure...loved this theme tune and the programme brings a bit of nostalgia and makes you hanker for more innocent times and actually feel sorry for todays little un's as they have inherited a much more uncertain world.
Lovely evocative tune. Credit to those guardians for shielding those from reality. And shame on those now, latterly, who choose to be oblivious or unconcerned as to the horrors of that era, in which young men and political leaders were being gunned down all over the world. Even though folk drive to the modern day plantation and watch a flat screen telly, their time is still the worse for it. Maybe one day, folk will shed a tear for people other than yourselves, but I wouldn't bet on it
absolutley brilliant, i loved that horse so much & never missed an episode, im 40 now with grandchildren but as soon as i heard this theme tune & watched the opening to it , it instantly melted away 35 years & made me cry to think how great life was back then compared to now for my kids & grandkids
tv stuff in the 70's and early 80's was so much better and longer lasting than the junk they have on now so thumbs up for dvd companies like network for bringing tons of them out on dvd to be enjoyed all over again
The cheatin' little sleeveens. That bit just at the end with the horse running toward that tree in the centre is speeded up, and I still remember how annoying it used to be to see the scene fade to black just b4 the horse reaches the tree. I always used to watch right till the end, hoping some day he would get to the tree, but he never did. Still bothers me.
`so you make the point that kids years ago didn't riot , attack old people, intimidate passers by, abuse old people, misbehave in the classroom unlike today` - and the reason is partly because we were brought up with tv programes like this - and music that wasn't hell bent on shitty gang culture where kids were influenced into doin the hardman ganster image - things were so much simpler back then !
damn i remember this all to well and loved it too....MrDjc you for the others multi-coloured swap shop..tiswas... then our saturdays were spoilt with world of sport and grandstand lol
remember this along with planet of the apes and space 1999 on saturday mornings in the 70's and then came tis was....great memories. lets not forget the banana splits too lol.
When I was a kid I cried because my mother refused to let me own a black horse like this - the fact we lived on a council estate didnt enter my mind I wanted one!
Still brings a lump to my throat this even today.
This is the best original version fo the track I think - cheer for posting it.
Brings back memories too. I used to go to a farm in the midlands where he was kept when not filming ( he was one of a few that were used) this one was a German trotter named Black Jet that had raced without much luck.
@saddlersarms I'm so gutted I used to dream about meeting the horse that played black beauty, you're so lucky, bet there is lots of 40 somethings that are jealous of you right now
@saddlersarms strange you should say that , i live in the midlands just on the shropshire border near to perton - as a kid i always remember my dad pointing out to me a farm near codsall where the horse Black Beauty was stabled - can't for the life of me remember exactly where it was though
i am still in high school and i was able to watch this on a christian tv network i love the old shows. and I like the new shows like flipper with jessica alba and the new adventures of flipper and all that.
yes there were loads of different black beautys, ive heard actors who were in it going on about it, they couldnt rely on one horse to shoot a whole series so they had loads of substitute black beautys they could wheel out whenever if needed.
@00BLACKNIGHTINGALE00 I don't think that's the same horse. There was a horse called HIghland Dale that was in those movies, but this Black Beauty series was much later, the horse would have been at least twenty or thirty by then.
Track is called " Galloping home" I did have a copy. The horse actually stayed on our farm one winter in between shoots and was the one that did the black horse ads there were about 5 horses that worked on Black beauty.
@zicoaka Oh yes, its 1973 all over again, im sitting in a tin bath in front of a fire watching Black Beauty, jarmies on after, then tea and then stars on sunday..
Wow I was obsessed with Black beauty and used to count down the days until Sunday morning when I could watch it again! Watching this clip brings fond memories and a tier to my eye!
I watched black beauty all the time , along with follyfoot and was it white horses! I'm 42 now And just hearing the theme tune makes me smile and reminds me of happy days when I was little.
@TheHarecat you ass hole no body like you go back to the trash heap. don't like it don't watch it, I hate you and I think every one else does get lost! The horse is stunning and bring tears to everyone
@chilled99 I have loads of pet horses on my own and even though bb was not a true story it still brought a lot of animal rights into the world and also he is a nice horse!!!
@chilled99 its actually body language if you mean horse whisperers such as; pat parelli and that. You can only whisper to your own horse, its actually a belief that some can look into the eye of the horse. out of all my horses there is only one who I am whole with and that's cailin, check my vid of her out. I can read her like a book its hard for some, that why horses seem scary... because they are hard to read.
cooneyboy23 i have the soundtrack off black beauty on CD, its called cult classics. As for the show it reminds me of my childhood and how childrens programmes were really made.
Fantastic. Beautiful horse and great music. I used to sit in front of the tele on a Sunday evening watching this at aged 5. I had to sit right in front of the tele on the floor so no one would see me cry when it ended!!!
@BBDB45 Me too, I am glad I am not the only one who cried at the end of each episode! I thought the galloping black horse was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
I loved this show sooooo much. My neighbour used to have an electric organ and I learned how to play this song on it. I sure wish they'd bring this show back. I loved watching Judi Bowker and Beauty.
The excitement I felt being a horse lover at 9 Yrs old wishing Black Beauty, and Folly foot farm was on TV for my 7 yr old daughter, who is very fortunate to share my passion and to now have our own Brown Beauty gelding.
one of the greatest theme tunes from the time when i was young.....as most people say on here,i was there....as well on sunday nights, watching this great programme....shame you have to grow up....
I can still imagine being in my front room watching Black Beauty as a child on a Sunday evening when I hear this tune. Life was so much more pleasant then. I'm 47 but can 'feel' how I felt when the programme started...it brings tears to my eyes
I know exactly what you mean, I'm nearly 42 and this is what made me want to get on a horse, I'll never forget the thrill of learning to ride. It was a genuinely innocent age when all that filled your head were horses , black beauty, follyfoot and Thelwell cartoons...
SickofNannyState, you have summed it up perfectly, i never realised at the time that life would never be as good as it was in those few short years of childhood .
I'm 14 years old now, and a few years ago I prefered the 70's shows like Black Beauty, Lassie and 'the little house on the prairie' above spongebob and that stuff. At the moment, I think that the 70's & 80's shows are the best programs ever made on the TV ever! (L)
I loved this show in the 70's. I know this is really cheesy but the soundtrack brings a tear to my eye. I have very fond memories of watching it with my older sister.
@Jattai Exactly my sentiment....they used to repeat this when I was little on TVS (Southern region of ITV) in the early 80's....Loved it and the theme.
@Jattai No, that's not cheesy, not at all! Those old TV series like Lassie Waltons, Bonanza, Daktari etc. had a lovingly crafted quality so everybody seems to remember them with bright memories from lucky childhood days. I doub't that the poor kids nowadays will remember that actual crap on TV in 20 years time...
Aww I wish we had this kind of stuff now. Spongebob is getting a little....... not as good as this stuff. I also wish we still had Kimba the White Lion and Lassie. Rin Tin Tin looked pretty Good too
I used to watch this show as a child on Nickelodeon back in 1982. It was great. Too bad they don't have television programs like this for kids nowadays.
An animal roaming free, with no fear of predators. Truly a vision of heaven on earth, with music to match. Too much.
