Too bad William Alexander wasn't my uncle. I'd have Uncle William dominate my gradeschool art teacher's questionable skills by bringing his paintings in and make her humble...and give me an A in art class...no talent having pompous bitch.
I used to watched this guy on PBS all the time, and then one day it was Bob Ross, the young upstart, showcasing the "William Alexander Wet-on-wet Technique"! It was out with the old, and in with the young. Out with with the crazy german, and in with "Zen Master Afro". And I notice Bob Ross' clips gets far more views here on YouTube, as well (and I like him, too), but Bill will always be king of the "putty knife painters" in my book. "Fire it in!"
I would love to see this whole episode.... It's not even for sale with the rest on the website though.... Definitely my vote for the next one published to you-tube in three parts!!!
Bill Alexander ruled. He and Bob Ross were the painting kings! I used to watch both of them when I was a kid. I used to record some of the episodes too. Though I liked both, from what I remember and what I see here, I think Alexander's mountains projected a little more majestic power. Either way, again, they both rocked!!
I have an large beautiful painting by him. I have no idea how to sell it because I don't see any of his paintings on eBay or Craig's list ---only books. Any suggestions folks?
For future reference, I meant no disrespect in my previous comment. Bill Alexander was an awesome dude and a gifted painter, and I didn't mean to offend anyone.
Bill learned how to paint when he was a prisoner by the Nazi's. He used a spatula on the sides of building using paint he ground himself. He is a true artist. He taught Bob Ross and millions of others. I still have brushes with his name imprinted. I hope he is happy in the happy little sky. Pinklady

Him and Bob Ross hated each other.
Bob Ross was his student and he lost his job to him, then put out a line of oil paints claiming he invented wet on wet oil painting.
They had a fist fight in the parking lot of a K-Mart to settle their beef and Bill actually bit of Bob's testicle.
An urban legend has it that he wore it as a necklace till the day he died.

Keep in mind that Mr. Alexander is saying this while painting clouds on a white canvas.
